Wish Big Birthday Card

Posted on: Monday, August 22nd, 2011

Happy Monday everyone!  What’s there to be happy about?  Well, I’m on a countdown.  My husband and I (no kids!) are planning a 4 day getaway to New York City and we leave this Sunday am!  Every year, Phillips, one of the manufacturer’s that Wesco (the company my husband works for) deals with has an incentive.  Last year my husband earned a $3000 travel voucher which we applied to our 12 Mediterranean Cruise.  This year, he earned a $1500 voucher which was just enough to cover our hotel for 5 nights – LOL (New York City is expensive!).  We’re taking the train there on Sunday, we then have 4 days to spend in the city and we’re coming home on Friday.  Even though the train ride is about 13 hours, I’m pretty excited about the whole thing because I’ve never travelled that long by train, and we both get to relax, and read and just spend time together. Whereas if you drive, the person driving gets pretty tired.

We’re planning on getting 4 days of Hop on and Hop off double decker bus passes, and then a 3 day New York City pass which gives us admittance into about 40 different attractions (we choose which ones we want to go on).  We’re also planning on taking in a Broadway show – Mary Poppins – one of my favourite movies since I was a kit.  Other things we’re hoping to do include visit the Statue of Liberty (I’d love to go to the top), the Empire State building, the Brooklyn Bridge, Central park, Ground Zero, Wall Street, etc. etc.

If any of you guys have been (or better yet – live there) I’d love to know if there are any great restaurants or other things you guys think are “must-do’s”.

Today’s project is actually one that I created and posted for Paper Crafter’s Library a few weeks ago.  The whole flag theme kind of falls along the lines of my love of pennants and banners.  I created the flags out of stirps of patterned paper which I wrapped around toothpicks.  I then used them as part of the focal point of my card. All supplies are listed at the bottom of this post.

If you haven’t already, don’t forget to enter into our draw for the 2012 Calendar and Note Pad tins – and if you’re interested, don’t forget to pre-order your bundles.  All the information is in this post.

At this point in time, I’m only planning on continuing the pre-order until Sept. 12th and they are due to ship out starting the week of Sept. 19th.  When I place my order with the printer, I’ll probably order a few extra but not huge amounts since they are time sensitive (given that they are dated).  Once they are gone, they’ll be gone until 2013.

Oh, and one other piece of news, I should have the free video and tutorial on how to make the calendar tins up either tomorrow or the day after.  The video and handout will be for the tin using all SU product.

NYC! You’ll both have a blast. Just being kid-free must be a rare event with such a big household!
Would love to get my hands on that calendar and note pad tin! Thanks for the givaway, as usual :)

My husband and I love Johns Pizzaria… right near Time’s Square in the theatre district. The brick oven pizza is great and the restaurant is housed in an old church, which makes for some fabulous ambiance :-)

Hi Andrea,
I don’t live in NYC, but love to visit. We always anjoy eating at Ted’s Montana Grill. Last time we recommended it to friend they had a Ted Turner sighting….he was there dining while they were.

But my other (and much better advice) is to check out Kelly Purkey’s blog http://www.kellypurkey.typepad.com. She is one of my favorite scrapbook blogs to follow. BUT she lives in NYC and loves food, so she has LOTS of posts about great places to eat. She as posts on her favorite ice cream, potatoes, cupcakes, ….if you can eat it she has written about it in NYC!

We have been to Mary Poppins twice – LOVE it – you are in for a really special treat.

Enjoy,
ROsslyn

I can’t remember where we ate when we went to visit NYC last November (am I getting old!), but one of the highlights was taking the carriage ride around Central Park — cheap! I think it was $12 each, narrated the whole way by the driver, talking about different movies filmed in the park, etc. So fun! Radio City Music Hall was very impressive to see, as was Rockefeller Center. I couldn’t believe how small the skating rink was compared to my TV view! Have a wonderful time!

Have a great time in NYC…. would love to plan a getaway for my partner and myself minus the children, to somewhere like NYC… A train journey would not be possible for us, unless there is a tunnel under the Atlantic Ocean! We would have to fly from the uk!! Have a great time!!

I do a trip to NY every year for business. Must dos: Lombardi’s pizza (oldest pizza restaurant in NY), Carnegie Deli, Oyster House in Grand Central Station and see a play on Broadway!

Andrea way to go! NYC… Whhooo Hoo.
I’ve never been but my friends have and LOVE it. Have a wonderful time… which I’m sure you will.
Your banner card is FAB! Hugs.

Congrats to your hubby for earning you those amazing vouchers, those sure do sound great! I was in NYC last summer, and it was hot hot hot! Also, the line up to take the ferry to see Lady Liberty was CRAZY, instead of waiting, (and paying) we took the Staten Island Ferry, which floats right in front of her, there and back, and the ferry is FREE. Something nice to keep in mind.

As well, those hop on hop off passes are great! And the New York City pass is smart, you get to bypass all the lines and such, very smart! You must of course see Central Park, and the MET is right beside it, they have very cool exhibits.

Pretty much anywhere you go will be amazing. Have a great time, cant wait to hear all about it!!!

I know this sounds silly but a HOT DOG from a street vendor and a pretzel. Nothing beats a hot dog in NYC off the street vendor. Rockefeller Center, I don’t think you can climb the Satute of Liberity anymore, but the ferry is an awesome ride. Coney Island of course. And ANY pizza place (New York) has the best pizza… and corn beef and pistrami sandwiches. Any sandwich shop is awesome and expensive :)

have a great time, upload me a slice of pizza.

We haven’t been to NYC in a long time but I remember that there is a place where you can get broadway tickets for a lot less. I think it might be in Times Square. I know it is a booth and it had a big sign that said TICKETS. Ask around and someone will know what you are talking about.

Have a great time in NYC. My sister lives in Manhattan and I go there all the time. We love to eat at Carmine’s — there are several locations. One is 200 West 44th Street, in the theater district. This is the website: http://www.carminesnyc.com/locations/tdny/index.php. Go there hungry and share food… it is served family style. YUM. Great Italian food!

There are two ticket booths in Manhattan (TKTS) for reduced priced theater tickets. The website is http://www.tdf.org/TDF_ServicePage.aspx?id=56. There is always a long line – get there early – but my experience is that the line moves fast. I heard that the one at South Street Seaport is less crowded than the one in Times Square, but I haven’t gone to that one.

Whatever you do, you’ll have a wonderful time. Just walking around is fun! Enjoy!

the card’s so simple, elegant & just screams happy*!…NYC…oh, you lucky duck; sounds like you’ve everything in order; love so much about NYC & can’t single out 1 specific thing. another mini honeymoon for U 2!

Enjoy NY! For a terrific corn beef sandwich…enough for two…try the Carnegie Deli. Delicious! Also, there was a restaurant very close to Radio City Music Hall that have the hostess & waitstaff dressed as stars and they perform while you are eating. Very entertaining…sorry I can’t remember the name.

I went to NYC last Aug and had a blast. The hop on hop off buses are great. We saw the Empire State building at night so there were no lines (they can be long) and the view at night was fantastic. You will LOVE Mary Poppins! We saw Wicked which was great too. Have fun! I would go again in a heart beat!

Oh Andrea, I sure hope that hurricane that is headed up the coast doesn’t interfere with your plans. You may need to see if you can re-schedule your trip. Here’s hoping it goes farther east which would be better for me here in Fl too.

Cute card! I really like the little flags :)
Have a great time in NYC!
