Vintagy Tag

Posted on: Friday, November 26th, 2010

Phew, its Friday!  And to celebrate this wonderful day, Mother Nature, decided to throw ….SNOW at me!  Huh??  What the heck?  Is it supposed to come so soon?  Well then again, it is nearing the end of November.  I suppose it was inevitable.  It’s just that, in my own little world, It doesn’t snow, It is perpetually green and sunny, and the rain only comes at night when it can sooth me into a deeper slumber.  Oh well, since it is my world, it can be anything that it wants to be lol.  As they say in ‘Horton hears a Who’  “in my world, there are flying unicorns, that eat rainbows and poop butterflies”!    I admit, I am feeling rather silly today, which totally does not fit with my project (which was made a couple of days ago).  So on to my details.

I decided to make a tag today, using the ultra adorable Greeting Card kids stamp set.  I was playing around with a new way of watercoloring, and have not yet perfected it, so I will hold off on telling you how this watercoloring is different, until I perfect the technique!  Anyways, since I was more interested in coloring, I just through her on to a tag, which would be great accenting a beautifully wrapped gift.  Some of the fun elements in this tag, include the craft colored ruffle at the base of the scallop trim.  I decided to buy some plain lunch bags, cut them into strips, punch them with the Eyelet border punch, and then pleat with a little glue to hold it in place.  It was such a fun and cheap trim, and so easy to find the supplies!

Supplies:

  • Stamps:  Greeting Card Kids
  • Paper:  Whisper White CS, Chocolate Chip DP, Baja Breeze CS, Old Olive CS, Real Red CS, Bristle Board Vellum
  • Ink:  Early Espresso, Creamy Caramel (retired), Basic Black, Pacific Point, Garden Green, Bravo Burgundy Classic ink, Staz-On, Various re-inkers
  • Other: Multi-purpose adhesive, Early Espresso 5/8″ Satin Ribbon, White gel pen, Basic Pearls, Scallop Edge border punch, Eyelet border punch, Crystal Effects, Dazzling Diamonds, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Stamping Sponges, 1/2″ circle punch Other:  Brown paper Lunch bags, 3/8″ hole punch,  Corner punch, Coluzzle oval cutter ( you can use the scallop oval die…the center part from SU)

Directions:

  • Start by cutting your Whisper White CS 3 7/8″ x 6 1/4″.   Cut the two top corners with a Corner Cropper. On the tag,  mat your 2 7/8″ x 5 5/8″ Chocolat Chip DP.  Punch a 3/8″ hole at the top, and glue over this a 1/2″ circle.  Punch through again to create the hole protector.  Sponge the whole thing with Early Espresso Classic ink, Creamy Caramel, and Basic Black Classic ink.
  • Next scallop one of each 1 1/4″ x 3 7/8″ pieces of Baja Breeze, Real Red, and Old Olive.  Sponge each of these with a darker value of the same color family.
  • Cut 1 1/2″ strips of the Paper Bag, and scallop with your Eyelet punch, the strips.  Pleat, holding the pleats in place with your Multi-purpose adhesive.  Sponge with soe Creamy Caramel and Early Espresso.
  • Cut an oval and distress the edges.  Sponge with Creamy Caramel and A touch of Early Espresso classic ink.
  • Stamp your image on to paper, and watercolor the image.  Cut out so that there is a faint white border.
  • She will be mounted on Stampin’ Dimensionals (tree stamped twice and mounted one over the other for added depth.
  • Assemble your tag as shown above using Snail.
  • Add dots of glitter with your Crystal Effects and Dazzling Diamonds.  Add highlights with your white gel pen.  The dots over the girl and tree represent snowflakes.
  • You are done!

hugs,

I love this tag! The scalloped borders in different colors and the ruffled paper bag add wonderful details as do the Signo pen dots. The more samples I see of this stamp set, the more I am drawn to it.

I was just scrolling through the website looking for ideas and came across this tag! How adorable. You are so talented with your watercoloring that I can’t help but be envious! Watercolor is the one painting technique that I just can’t seem to master! I would love to come and take a class from you some day. Of course, getting to Canada may be a little more challenging then I would like. Great Job!
