Spooky Pillow Box Purse
Posted on: Thursday, October 21st, 2010I can’t believe that Halloween is only 10 days away! I guess because I was away for both Founder’s Circle and then the cruise – taking up 3 weeks out of September/October – I feel almost like fall has completly passed me by. We got our kids their costumes last weekend. Now I’m just starting to think about what I’m going to do for a class treat as the kids usually hand out treats to their classmates.
For today’s project I wanted to share with you a cute little pillow box purse that can be used to package up a small treat for someone special. I actually got the idea from the Sept./Oct. Paper Crafts magazine. There was a full page ad with Halloween projects – and one of them featured what looked to be like a pillow box purse. It immediately struck me that it would be so easy to re-create by simply adding a handle to our pillow box (from the Stampin’ Up! pillow box die). Now I’m sure that there is someone, somewhere out in blogland that has already thought of this idea, but for me, it was an “aha” moment.
Here’s how I made the project:
-
Die cut a pillow box out of Pumpkin Pie CS using the Pillow Box die and your Big Shot.
-
Die cut a second pillow box out of Nite Owl DP (from the Holiday Mini Catalogue). Cut out the front and back panel, and cut them apart (I didn’t keep them folded).
-
Stick the front panel to the front of the box and the back panel to the back of the box using Tombow Multi-Purpose adhesive.
-
Place a strip of Sticky Strip on the long narrow flap. Set aside for a moment.
-
Take a 4″ x 4″ piece of Basic Black CS and punch a hole in the center of it with a 1 3/8″ circle punch. Center the window of the 2 1/2″ circle punch around it and punch it out. You will now end up with a 2 1/2″ wide “ring”. Fold it in half.
-
Peel the backing from the Sticky Strip on the pillow box flap. Lay the folded edge of the “ring” onto the sticky Strip – you only want about 1/4″ of the folded flat bottom of the ring to overlap the long flap of the pillow box. Place another strip of Sticky Strip on top of the first strip so that the ends of the “ring” are sandwiched between the two layers.
-
Now assemble the pillow box. The flat bottom of the folded “ring” will be sandwiched between the two layers of Pumpkin Pie CS, creating a handle.
-
Lightly sponge around the outer and inner edge of the handle with Whisper White craft ink.
-
Take a 14″ piece of Basic Black satin ribbon and a 14″ piece of the Raven black lace. Lay them one on top of the other and then tie them in a knot around the pillow bow. Position the knot towards the left side of the box. Set the box aside for a moment.
-
Take a scrap of Whisper White CS and stamp the spider web image from the Wicked Cool stamp set onto it in Basic Black Classic ink. Run an embossing buddy over the Whisper White CS piece.
-
Ink up the “Spooky” greeting from the Wicked Cool stamp set in Basic Black Craft ink and center and stamp it over the cob web image. Sprinkle on Heat and Stick powder and then heat with a heat tool to melt. Sprinkle on fine Black Glitter and then heat set.
-
Punch a scalloped oval out of Basic Black CS using the scalloped oval punch. Pierce a hole through the center of each scallop with a foam mat and paper-piercing tool.
-
Center the 1 3/4″ x 7/8″ oval punch over the stamped and glittered greeting and punch it out. Center and stick it to the black scalloped oval using 2 Stampin’ Dimensionals.
-
Stick the matted greeting oval to the pillow box with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
-
Stick black rhinestones to the handle. I used peel and stick rhinestones from the dollar store. You’re done!
I hope you enjoyed today’s project.
