Shimmery Pastel Paint Stampin’ Up! Card
Posted on: Wednesday, March 16th, 2011What a busy March break we’ve been having (i.e. spring break in the USA)! All 5 kids are home, and we had Soph and her family (she has 3 kids) here for a few days so things were VERY LOUD – but a lot of fun. My daughter Julia and Soph’s daughter Naomie spent a good portion of their time creating a beauty salon and a cafe. They were giving manicures and pedicures and back massages, then we could order a “specialty drink” off of their “menu”. It was so cute! Although Soph and her family went home yesterday, the fun has been continuing, because my husband took the whole week off. Yesterday we took the four older kids to a “toonie matinee” at the theater and saw The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and today we took them bowling. So it’s been a lot of fun and a wonderful opportunity to spend time with my family.
Of course with everyone home, getting any work done is pretty challenging.
Today I wanted to share with you a Stampin’ Up! card that features the same Shimmery Pastel Paint technique I used on this card HERE. This particular technique – stamping with the shimmery pastel paint – works with any solid image stamp. Unfortunately the picture is not the greatest – you just can’t see the beautiful shimmer on the flowers very well.
Tomorrow in the Paper Crafter’s Library we’ll be releasing a video showing you how to make the shimmery pastel paint, as well as three separate videos showing you different applications of the Shimmery Pastel Paint – how to stamp with it (as in the card here and on the Paper Crafter’s World blog), how to color in an outline image with it, and how to paint with it to create shimmery die cuts.
The card featured today uses my LEAST favourite collection of Stampin’ Up! DP – the Blueberry Crisp collection. Honestly, I’m not sure why I bought it – at the time I was buying all of Stampin’ Up!’s other patterns of designer paper. I think my reasoning at the time was that I wanted a “complete collection” – of course, it’s been sitting on my shelf since then, because it just never seemed to work with anything I wanted to make. I actually had to force myself to use it with this card. It was the starting point for today’s project. I pulled it off my shelf and decided that THAT was what I was going to use.
Stamps: For All You Do (Stampin’ Up!)

Paper: Sahara Sand CS, Very Vanilla CS, Pacific Point CS, Blueberry Crisp DP, Neutrals Stack DP (Stampin’ Up!)
Accessories: Stampin’ Dimensionals, Basic Pearls, Square Lattice embossing folder, Big Shot, Itty Bitty Shapes punch pack

Well Andrea, I have to agree with you about this DP. I felt the same way when I saw it in catty, so never bought it. I think it was because it reminded me of discontinued DP, only in the different colors (last year’s). Also, I have never been a real fan of the matching stamp, although I do own that. However, that being said, I am really surprised by how much I like your card. It is really very pretty, so I wanted to make sure I took time to comment instead of just looking and going to next blog. Moral of story: it’s all in how you use the product that really makes or breaks a product.

Andrea I have to agree with you on the Blueberry DSP. I too bought and have not used???? I think I’m going to use it for die cut and distress flowers. {smile}. Anyway you pulled it off because your card looks great. I like your DSP with lots of white space… maybe that’s the secret?
So nice to spend time with your family. My grandkids come to stay with me during the summer and I just treasure that precious time. Hugs.

Hi Andrea,
I agree with you and the others who have already commented that this is my least favorite DP Stampin’ Up! offers right now. I will probably not buy it but you have again inspired me with your brilliant use of the Blueberry Crisp DP. Thanks so much for continuing to use Stampin’ Up! products in your creative offerings.

Well, it may be your least favorite, but I like what you did with it! I really like the textured strip of paper. It adds a nice touch.

Very pretty card–I like the shimmer.

Add me to the list of those that did not like or buy this paper. I really don’t seem to use a lot of blue as evidenced by all the retired blue cardstock that I have and still don’t use. The neutral DP calms the blue on your card.

I do love the combination of the blue design and the gray polka dots together. The card is simple (with the solid, shimmery flowers) but very beautiful.

Very pretty. I’m glad you forced yourself to use the DP!

I don’t like this paper, either! I like how you toned it down with the neutrals DSP. Thanks, Andrea!

The card is lovely and the paper is beautiful!

i’m so glad you forced yourself to use this paper, because it’s my FAVORITE
and you made it look even better!

Well…for not liking this paper, you certainly did a beautiful job of designing a fabulous card with it. I like most of the pages in this DP, so always good to see what others are doing with it. Thanks for taking it off the shelf and sharing your talent with us.

Isn’t it funny how people are drawn to different patterns, colours, and more! I only have a few scraps left of this DSP package. Thanks for the inspiration to use the scraps left on a few different cards. This is a great shimmery flower!

Beautiful card which works well with the paper.

I am with almost everyone on here. I bought this DSP because I loved the Razzleberry Lemonade…same designs, but different colors. I DON’T like this DSP at all-I actually used some on Christmas cards- little circles reminded me of snowflakes- but of course, your card is beautiful. Thanks for the wonderful work you and Soph always do.

Andrea: I liked this card, I needed a card to send to a friend, I will take the idea and will make changes
