Look Who’s Turning 8 Birthday Card
Posted on: Monday, July 13th, 2009
Today’s card is a fun and whimsical kid’s birthday card that I created using Stampin’ Up!’s new Look Who’s Turning stamp set, the Circle Circus Stamp set and the Playground buttons. As I’m sure you guys have noticed I’ve been on a real button kick lately – in fact I would have to say that I’ve totally fallen in love with using buttons on my projects – along with making 5 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ square cards *lol*
I totally drew my color inspiration from the buttons – the colors looked so pretty together sitting in their container that I decided to incorporate all those colors into my card.
Instructions:
-
Take the number stamp from the Look Who’s Turning stamp set and individually ink up and stamp the numbers onto a scrap of Whisper White CS using the following Stampin’ Write marker colors: Tempting Turquoise, Real Red, More Mustard and Old Olive. Make sure you clean the stamp really well in between stamping each number.
-
Take the dotted circular frame stamp from the Circle Circus stamp set and stamp it around each number in Basic Black Classic ink – use a stamp-a-ma-jig to achieve perfect placement.
-
Punch out the numbers with the 1 1/4″ circle punch. Take scraps of Old Olive, Tempting Turquoise, More Mustard and Real Red CS and punch out circles with the 1 3/8″ circle punch – coordinate your CS circles with the colors of the numbers you stamped and punched. Mat the numbers onto their coordinating CS circles. Set aside for a moment.
-
Stamp the Octopus in Real Red Classic ink onto a scrap of Whisper White CS and punch out with the Curly Label Punch. Sponge around the edges with Tempting Turqoise Classic ink. Set aside for a moment.
-
Take a 5″ x 5″ piece of Whisper White CS and lightly sponge around the edges of the Whisper White CS with Tempting Turqoise Classic ink. Stamp the greeting in Basic Black ink in the top left corner using a stamp-a-ma-jig if necessary.
-
Take the “bubbles” stamp from the Circle Circus stamp set, ink it up in Tempting Turquoise Classic ink, stamp off once onto a piece of scrap paper and then stamp it onto your Whisper White CS. Randomly repeat as many times as desired.
-
Stick the numbers onto the card as shown using Snail adhesive. Stick the octopus on using 2 Stampin’ Dimensionals.
-
Choose 5 buttons from the Playground set and insert a small coordinated sliver of CS into each of the button holes to create the look of faux thread. Stick the buttons onto the number circles using a mini glue dot for each.
-
Punch out an arrow out of Basic Black CS using the My Way punch. Take the medium sized arrow, point it to the desired number (for the age of the birthday child) and stick it down with a mini glue dot. Pierce a hole on the end and insert a Real Red brad from the Bold Brights Collection.
-
Mat the Whisper White CS onto a 5 1/8″ x 5 1/8″ piece of Tempting Turquoise CS and then center and mat this onto a 5 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ Real Red card (made by folding a 5 1/4″ x 10 1/2″ piece of CS in half). You’re done!
I hope you enjoyed this card!

What a cute use of the “bubbles” stamp from the Circle Circus set. I was wondering about that particular stamp. It did not seem to fit the rest of the set. Great idea.

Super Cute Card!! I love how you used it. Did you mount the number together or separate? I just got the set and do not know how to mount it yet.
