Don’t you just love the colors of the designer paper I used for today’s card?  I sure do – the blues and the green look so serene.  Who would have thought that the paper comes from the Nursery Suite DP collection – a collection of designer paper with a baby theme.  That’s one of the things I love about Stampin’ Up! – their products are so versatile.

Here’s how I made today’s card:

  1. Center and stick a 4″ x 4″ piece of DP to a 4 1/4″ x 4 1/4″ piece of Old Olive CS.
  2. Center and stick the matted DP to the front of a 5 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ Crumb Cake CS card (formerly called Kraft CS).
  3. Place a strip of Sticky Strip across the card, over top of the matted DP, about 1 3/4″ up from the bottom of the card.
  4. For the ribbon I used a technique called ribbon ruching.  I ruched the ribbon across the first 3″ of the card, and then I laid the ribbon flat for the remainder of the card.  It’s a bit difficult to explain this technique but I will have a video on how to do it on my new Paper Crafter’s Library site.  If you haven’t already signed up, and you’re interested in more info about this site, you can sign up for my advance notification email list AND receive a free video on creating a ribbon flower by answering one simple survey question.
  5. Stamp the silhouette bird image onto a scrap of Whisper White CS in Early Espresso Classic ink.  Stamp the greeting underneath also using Early Espresso ink.
  6. Punch out the image and greeting using the new extra large decorative label punch.
  7. Sponge the edges of the greeting label with Old Olive Classic ink.
  8. Thread some CS through the button to create the look of “faux” thread. Stick the button to the left of the image with a mini glue dot.
  9. Stick the image to the right of the card, over the flat part of the ribbon with two Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  10. Place some 3mm clear rhinestones at the center of the Baja Breeze diamonds.  You’re done!

Supplies used are all Stampin’ Up! unless otherwise noted:

Stamps: Silhouette Sentiments, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Ink: Early Espresso Classic ink, Old Olive Classic ink
Paper: Crumb Cake CS, Old Olive CS, Whisper White CS, Nursery Suite DP
Accessories: Extra-large Decorative Label punch, Old Olive Satin Ribbon, Sticky Strip, mini glue dots, Brights designer buttons, Stampin’ Dimensionals, bone folder, paper snips, Basic Rhinestones, stamping sponge

Okay and now for some winners……

September Class & Workshop Planner Now Available, a Give-Away & An Update http://andreawalford.com/september-class-workshop-planner-now-available-an-update http://andreawalford.com/september-class-workshop-planner-now-available-an-update#comments Wed, 08 Sep 2010 20:53:42 +0000 Andrea http://andreawalford.com/?p=5864 I’m sure some of you have probably been wondering at the long silence here.  I’m very sorry about that!  The last three weeks have been incredibly stressful. Getting the kids ready to go back to school was busy enough, but on top of the regular hours I put into my business and the extra hours preparing to launch my new website, I’ve had to try and prep for two upcoming trips this month. Next week I leave on the 15th for Founder’s Circle, and then 4 days after I’m back, my husband and I are leaving for a 14 day trip to Europe (a Mediterranean cruise) – our first trip without kids in 12 years!  While I’m super excited about both trips, it’s meant a lot of extra work. There’s been a bunch of other stuff going on too, but I won’t bore you with the details.  Suffice it to say, I think it was the combined stress that triggered another one of my week long headaches.  I’ve shared with you guys about my headaches before, and it’s pretty much same old, same old.  Not classified as an official “migraine” but enough to really knock me down.  I’ve only been able to do the bare minimum to keep things going.  Thankfully I think I’m seeing the light at the end of the tunnel so we should be back to fairly regular posting.  If ever you see week long unexplained silences like this – which usually seems to happen 3-4 times a year – my headache “spell” is usually the reason.

Now normally I’d have done this on the 1st the month, so much belated, I’d like to introduce you guys to this month’s class and workshop planners.

“Hi Girl Friend” card featuring the Sweet & Sour Specialty DP http://andreawalford.com/hi-girl-friend-card-featuring-the-sweet-sour-specialty-dp http://andreawalford.com/hi-girl-friend-card-featuring-the-sweet-sour-specialty-dp#comments Tue, 31 Aug 2010 20:39:12 +0000 Andrea http://andreawalford.com/?p=5853

This newsletter issue’s card is this fun, bright card featuring the Sweet and Sour Specialty DP. The layout comes from the front cover of the Paper Crafter’s Card Creations Vol. 8 special issue. When I saw the layout and that yummy flower, I immediately knew I just HAD to make one too!

Last week I sent out an email to my email newsletter subscribers offering a free video tutorial on how to make the ribbon flower shown above in exchange for their feedback. I’m now offering you all the same opportunity.  I’m working on an exciting new launch of a paper crafting video library called the Paper Crafter’s Library, and I could really use some input. If you click HERE you’ll be taken to my survey page asking you to answer one question.  When you answer that question you will receive the free video tutorial for the ribbon flower shown above and you will get put on a first notification list about the new site.  As part of this list you will also be entitled to other free, exclusive content.

Here’s how I made the card:

  1.  Sponge a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Crumb Cake CS with a stamping sponge and the tea stain distress ink.
  2. Die cut a Top Note die out of Sweet and Sour DP, cut it in half and then stick it along the top half of the Crumb Cake CS piece with SNAIL adhesive.
  3. Lay a 6″ piece of Whisper White grosgrain ribbon across the Crumb Cake CS so that it covers the cut edge of the Top Note. Bring the ends of the ribbon around to the back of the CS and stick them down.
  4. Center and stamp the “hi” greeting below the ribbon,  and stamp the “friend” greeting towards the bottom right of the Crumb Cake CS.  Use Early Espresso Classic ink and a Stamp-a-ma-jig if necessary.
  5. Create the ribbon flower with the ribbon leaf as directed in the free video tutorial (see intro paragraph) and stick it to the left side of the ribbon with a liquid glue (I used Fabritac).
  6. Ink the chipboard letters with Pumpkin Pie Craft ink, sprinkle on Heat and Stick powder and heat with a heat tool. Sprinkle on orange glitter and then heat once again to set. Stick the letters directly over the ribbon, to the right of the “hi” greeting, with mini glue dots.
  7. Add some orange peel-and stick rhinestone brads to either side of the “friend” greeting. You’re done!

I hope you enjoyed today’s card

Stamps: Fabulous Phrases

2011 Calendar & Note Pad Refills are HERE & a Give-Away! http://andreawalford.com/2011-calendar-and-note-pad-tin http://andreawalford.com/2011-calendar-and-note-pad-tin#comments Mon, 30 Aug 2010 20:45:53 +0000 Andrea http://andreawalford.com/?p=5825

Do you ever find yourself scrambling to find something to write on and write with?  I sure do…whether I’m home on the phone trying to take a message, or out and about trying to make a note to myself or wanting to check my calendar.  Inevitably when that happens I never seem to be able to have my calendar handy or find something to write on!

Last fall I came up with a solution to that problem – my custom-designed Calendar & Note Pad Tin.  I wanted something portable, durable, small and of course pretty.  I couldn’t find anything like that…so I made it!   I started with a 5 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ hinged CD tin and integrated some customized elements to make it a one-of-a-kind gift. Because I didn’t have a “Just a Note” stamp, I designed the ”Just a Note” greeting that you see on the front of the tin on my computer.  I then printed it out using a high quality printer onto Whisper White CS.

I had the calendar that you see on the inside front cover of the tin custom-made so that it perfectly fit the inside of the tin. The font used for the months and the date match the font used for the “just a note” on the front of the tin.

As you can see from the picture below and on the left I also had some note-pads custom designed to fit inside the tin. There’s 50 sheets on the notepad and the lines are black so they match with any color scheme.

I am offering this Calendar and Note Pad tin in several options: a digital tutorial (no supplies included) available for immediate download, a Class Kit by Mail (pre-order) and a pre-order on the refills.  The pre-orders will begin shipping the week of Sept. 20th

So for those of you that have been asking, the 2011 calendars are now here, and the note pads are back in stock, and are once again available in bundles of 5.

For Stampin’ Up! demonstrators wanting to offer this as a class to your customers, when you purchase any four bundles of calendars &/OR note pads you will receive the digital tutorial for FREE.  For additional details and to pre-order yours, please click HERE.

I’m also giving away two free digital tutorials for this product, so please leave me a comment to enter the draw. Winners will be announced on Monday.  Be sure to check out my other give-away at the bottom of this post.

Source for silver tins: I purchased the silver tins from Pritchard Packaging.  They are a Canadian based store but they do ship to the US as well.  Their link is: http://www.pritchard.com/Retail___Gift_Supplies/silver_tins.html.  Last year I purchased my tins from Dunwoody Booth but it doesn’t seem as though they carry them anymore.

Source for pencils:  Because of the depth of the tins, you cannot use a pen or pencil that has greater than a 1/4″ diameter.  I found most of my pencils at the dollar store, but you can also buy them from online school supply companies such as Raymond Geddes (http://www.raymondgeddes.com/67332-lil-mp-7mm-mechanical-pencil.html).

These unfortunately will not fit the silver skinny tins SU offers.  At the time that these calendars were designed SU was not selling the skinny tins in bulk. I couldn’t find any other place to source those particular sized tins from, whereas the 5 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ tins were readily available.

Other Give-Aways:

If you haven’t already entered my give away for the mini backpack scrapbook album then you can do so by clicking HERE.  The draw for the mini backpack album tutorials will take place on Friday, Sept wrd.
