Emoticon and Internet Slang Candy Wrappers
Posted on: Wednesday, October 20th, 2010Well a short time ago, I came across a cute Exclusive Quikutz die that featured ‘emoticons’. I instantly knew that I could easily come up with the same idea using some (try all) of my circle punches. I decided to create cute candy wrappers (from the new Sizzix Candy Wrapper die featured in the mini catalogue) and feature different emoticons on each one. I paired them with tags which featured internet slang, of which I had to research and discovered that there was an online dictionary for. It came as quite a shock to discover how much profanity was included. There was also a section which discussed key slang for parents to beware of. Some of the slang involved warning of the presence of parents, and overtures of an unfriendly nature. I have to say that while emoticons can be fun and useful, there is a lot of the bad with the good! So anyways, I of course chose some fun ones. I have not done a video because at the moment I have a bad cold, but hopefully by Friday I will stop sniffling and be able to showcase the Sick Emoticon in a video. I will also do another Emoticon card for Friday lol.
Supplies:
- Paper: Pink Pirouette, Very Vanilla, Melon Mambo, Baja Breeze, Pacific Point, River Rock, Wild Wasabi, Kiwi Kiss (retired), Basic Black, Daffodil delight, Chocolate Chip, Real Red, Whisper White
- Ink: Tangerine Tango, Bravo Burgundy, Melon Mambo, Wild Wasabi, Creamy Caramel (retired), Tempting Turquoise, Pacific Point
- Punches: Two Step Owl punch (for the circles), 1 1/4″ circles, Heart to Heart punch, Slot punch (retired), Scallop Trim border punch, Scallop Oval punch, 1 3/4″ x 7/8″ oval punch, 1/8″ hole punch (non-SU)
- Other: Linen thread, 1/8″ Early Espresso Taffeta Ribbon, white silk ribbon (non-SU), Big Shot, Various Small Alphabets, Candy Wrapper Bigz die, Background 1 Texturz Plates (diamond pattern for Happy), Stampin Dimensionals, Multi-purpose Adhesive, White gel pen, Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz
Directions:
You tube has some great video’s for putting together the Candy Wrapper box, so check it out for instructions. As for the Emoticons, they are simply layered and cut circles for the most part. Hopefully Friday I can put togethed the Sicky Emoticon video. It is probably the hardest, and not hard at that! It will be good for showing you the finer details which I have added.
Hugs,

Andrea Walford

These are so cute. As far as the language, you should hear how some of the kids talk at school, real young ones too.

Sophia, these are so cute!! You captured the emoticons perfectly with your shading — talk about paying attention to the details!! I don’t have the Candy Wrapper die (basically because I invented the box and sent it in to SU for a contest about 4 years ago and posted pattern on SCS). Love the shading you did on the boxes also. I feel a new card design craze getting started using your emoticons!!
