Vintage Vogue Friendship Card

I have to tell you, I've been on pins and needles for the last two days!  My order from the new Stampin' Up! catalogue is due to arrive today, YAY!  For the last few weeks, it's been a real struggle creating.  I've felt uninspired by the old stuff, not to mention so much of it is retired, and I've felt so limited by the pre-order stuff.  After all, I can't keep showing cards made with the same stamp sets and same DP's day after day can I *wink*?

As I anxiously await the delivery of my order I decided to pull out one of my favourite retired patterned paper collections (Cottage Wall DP) and pair it with the Vintage Vogue stamp set (which is in the new catalogue).  I also added some stitching to my card with my little Janome Sew Mini (LOVE that little machine...it's just perfect for cards). I CASED the design of this card from Jennifer McGuire (love her stuff!).  You can see her card HERE. Here's how I made my card:

  1. Take a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece of Pale Plum CS and fold it in half with your bone folder to create a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" card.
  2. Center and stick a 4 1/8" x 5 3/8" piece of Rich Razzleberry CS onto the Pale Plum card front.
  3. You will now need a 4" x 5 1/4" piece of Crumb Cake CS (formerly called Kraft CS).  Stick a 1" x 5 1/4" strip of DP onto the Crumb Cake CS piece - align it so that the right edge of the DP is 2 1/2" in from the left edge of the card.
  4. Take a 1 1/2" x 5 1/4" piece of polka dotted DP and overlap the plum DP, leaving about 1/2" of the plum DP showing.
  5. Using a sewing machine and white thread, sew a zig zag stitch along the left edge of the olive polka dotted DP.  Lay a 6 1/2" piece of Old Olive taffeta ribbon (from the Mistletoe collection which was in the Holiday Mini Catalogue I believe and is now retired) across the olive polka dotted DP, about 1/4" in from the right edge of the DP.  Stitch a straight stitch down the center of the ribbon.  Bring the ends of the ribbon around to the back of the DP and stick them down.
  6. Sew a straight stitch down the plum DP closer to the right edge of the DP.
  7. Center and stick the Crumb Cake CS piece with the stitched DP onto the Rich Razzleberry CS using SNAIL adhesive. Set aside for a moment.
  8. Cut a 1 7/8" x 3" piece of Whisper White CS and sponge the edges with Old Olive Classic ink and a wedge of Stamping Sponge.
  9. Take the vine stamp from the Vintage Vogue stamp set and ink it up in Old Olive Classic ink.  Stamp it off once onto your grid paper and then stamp it onto the Whisper White CS piece.
  10. Ink up the "F" stamp with Rich Razzleberry Classic ink, and stamp it off once onto your scrap paper.  Stamp the "F" onto a scrap of Whisper White CS.  Cut it out.  As you cut it out, carefully cut around the friend image so that you can use this separately.
  11. Stick the cut out "F" to the stamped Whisper White CS piece with Stampin' Dimensionals.
  12. Mat the Whisper White CS piece to a 2" x 3 1/8" piece of Rich Razzleberry CS, and then center and stick this onto a 2 1/2" x 3 1/4" piece of Pale Plum CS.
  13. Stick the "friend" tab that you cut in step 10 to the right of the matted Whisper White image piece.
  14. Stick the matted image piece to the Crumb Cake CS about 1/4" from the left edge and a 1/2" down from the top edge of the Crumb Cake CS.
  15. Stick three tiny lavender rhinestones to the vine image.  Stick three medium lavender rhinestones, one on top of each other, just below the matted image piece, close to the right edge of the plum DP.  You're done!

Whew!  Lots of typing for this one!  Well I hope you enjoyed today's card.  Next card I make for you will be with BRAND NEW STUFF!  Woohoo!
