Happy Dirtday!

Posted: Wednesday, August 17th, 2011 | Comments (7)

I have to say that I am loving this cute “I Dig You” Stamp set!  It is perfect for any little (0r big) boy on your list.  I wanted to prepare something for next year when my little guy turns 6.  He has been going around insisting to everyone that he is 6, when the reality is that he is only 5.  So obviously this will be a highly anticipated birthday, and I willl be all ready when the moment is here.

I wanted to create some movement with my digger, and I wanted to covey the idea of un-covering a new year.  I think it turned out perfect!  Both fun and easy to do.  The video will be found in the library later this week.

Supplies:

  • Stamps:  I Dig You
  • Ink:  Tempting Turquoise, Basic Black, More Mustard, Island Indigo, Chocolate Chip Classic ink/ Stampin’Write marker
  • Paper:  Crumb Cake CS, Cherry Cobbler CS, Whisper White CS, Chocolate Chip CS, Just Add Cake DP
  • Other:  Stampin’ Dimensionals, Multi-purpose glue, White gel pen, Scallop Circle punch, Stampin’ Sponges, Paper Snips, 1/16″ hole punch, gold brads, Glitter Glue, Stamp-a-ma-jig

Today I wanted to share with you all a fabulously simple card to make.  This card was actually inspired by a picture of a pillow I saw in the advertisement section of one of my Somerset Studio magazines – and for the life of me, I can’t find which magazine it’s in now (I have a LOT of those magazines LOL)!

I decided to put together a quick video to show you guys how easy it is to make.

Here are the supplies:

Stamps: Sanded background, En Francais background (Stampin’ Up!)
Ink: Pear Pizzazz Classic ink, Whisper White Craft ink (Stampin’ Up!)
Paper: Pear Pizzazz CS, Basic Black CS (Stampin’ Up!)
Accessories: Beautiful Wings Embosslit, Big Shot, Basic rhinestones (Stampin’ Up!); Heat It Craft Tool, Non-Stick Craft Mat (Ranger)

By the way, I’m not sure how many of you check out our Paper Crafter’s World blog, but yesterday I posted some pictures of another mixed media canvas that I made and one that my 8 year old daughter made.  You can see them HERE.

And now, as promised – the winner of the $25 gift certificate to the Sunny Stampin’ Store www.sunnystampinstore.com:

Poinsettia Peace on Earth Card

Posted: Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010 | Comments (11)

Today’s card was a bit of an experiment – I wanted to see if I could create a Poinsettia using Stampin’ Up!’s Island Floral die.  After a bit of experimentation, I finally ended up with a result I like. Here’s how I made the card:

  1. Take a 5 1/4″ x 10 1/2″ piece of textured Cherry Cobbler CS and fold it in half using a bone folder to create a 5 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ card.
  2. Cut a 5″ x 5″ piece of Crumb Cake CS and sponge the edges with Soft Suede Classic ink and a wedge of a stamping sponge.
  3. Center and stick a 3″ x 4 3/4″ piece of Deck the Halls DP (the Cherry Cobbler color with the script pattern) along the left edge of the Crumb Cake CS, leaving an even border at the top, left and bottom.
  4. Center and stick a 2″ x 4 3/4″ piece of Deck the Halls DP (the holly pattern) along the right edge of the Crumb Cake CS, leaving an even border at the top, right and bottom.
  5. Lay a 5 1/2″ piece of Cherry Cobbler seam binding across the seam between the two piece of DP. Bring the ends of the seam binding around to the back of the CS and stick them down with SNAIL adhsive.
  6. Center and stick the Crumb Cake CS piece to the card front with SNAIL adhesive.
  7. Using your Circle Scissors Plus and glass mat, cut a 3 1/4″ circle out of Crumb Cake CS. Sponge the edges with Soft Suede Classic ink.  Cut a second circle out of Deck the Halls Chocolate Chip colored DP that is 3″ in diameter, again using the Circle Scissors Plus.
  8. Center and stick the Chocolate Chip DP circle to the Crumb Cake CS circle with SNAIL adhesive. Set aside for a moment.
  9. Die cut four sets of the three petal flower from the Island Floral die out of Cherry Cobbler CS using your Big Shot.
  10.  Sponge each of the flowers with Soft Suede Classic ink.
  11. Cut each of the petals in half, but not straight across, you want to cut each half on a rounded inward angle.
  12. Spritz the flowers with water one at a time using a mini mister, and gently scrunch them.  Once all flowers are scrunched and then opened up, lay them inside the Color Catcher and spritz them with Gold Glow Smooch Spritz.
  13. Die cut three leaves out of Always Artichoke CS. Spritz them with water and scrunch them to give them a distressed look.  Open the leaves back up.  Spritz them with Gold Glow Smooch Spritz if desired (I didn’t).
  14. Layer and stick the flowers one on top of the other, to the center of the DP circle using Tombow liquid adhesive.  Make sure you offset the petals.  Tuck the leaves underneath the flower and stick them down with mini glue dots.
  15. Use some yellow peel and stick rhinestones to create the center of the poinsettia (I just used rhinestones from the dollar store).
  16. Cut a 3/4″ x 4″ piece of Crumb Cake CS. Stamp the Peace on Earth greeting onto it in Early Espresso Classic ink.  Cut a fishtail at both ends using your paper snips.  Sponge around the edges with Soft Suede Classic ink.
  17. Use the edge of your paper snips to gently round the greeting flag.  Stick it to the card front with mini glue dots.  Place a small yellow rhinestone on either side of the greeting.
  18. Stick the DP circle with the Poinsettia to the card front – centered over the seam binding and just above the greeting, using Stampin’ Dimensionals.  You’re done!

I hope you enjoyed today’s card.

“Hi Girl Friend” card featuring the Sweet & Sour Specialty DP

Posted: Tuesday, August 31st, 2010 | Comments (18)

This newsletter issue’s card is this fun, bright card featuring the Sweet and Sour Specialty DP. The layout comes from the front cover of the Paper Crafter’s Card Creations Vol. 8 special issue. When I saw the layout and that yummy flower, I immediately knew I just HAD to make one too!

Last week I sent out an email to my email newsletter subscribers offering a free video tutorial on how to make the ribbon flower shown above in exchange for their feedback. I’m now offering you all the same opportunity.  I’m working on an exciting new launch of a paper crafting video library called the Paper Crafter’s Library, and I could really use some input. If you click HERE you’ll be taken to my survey page asking you to answer one question.  When you answer that question you will receive the free video tutorial for the ribbon flower shown above and you will get put on a first notification list about the new site.  As part of this list you will also be entitled to other free, exclusive content.

Here’s how I made the card:

  1.  Sponge a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Crumb Cake CS with a stamping sponge and the tea stain distress ink.
  2. Die cut a Top Note die out of Sweet and Sour DP, cut it in half and then stick it along the top half of the Crumb Cake CS piece with SNAIL adhesive.
  3. Lay a 6″ piece of Whisper White grosgrain ribbon across the Crumb Cake CS so that it covers the cut edge of the Top Note. Bring the ends of the ribbon around to the back of the CS and stick them down.
  4. Center and stamp the “hi” greeting below the ribbon,  and stamp the “friend” greeting towards the bottom right of the Crumb Cake CS.  Use Early Espresso Classic ink and a Stamp-a-ma-jig if necessary.
  5. Create the ribbon flower with the ribbon leaf as directed in the free video tutorial (see intro paragraph) and stick it to the left side of the ribbon with a liquid glue (I used Fabritac).
  6. Ink the chipboard letters with Pumpkin Pie Craft ink, sprinkle on Heat and Stick powder and heat with a heat tool. Sprinkle on orange glitter and then heat once again to set. Stick the letters directly over the ribbon, to the right of the “hi” greeting, with mini glue dots.
  7. Add some orange peel-and stick rhinestone brads to either side of the “friend” greeting. You’re done!

I hope you enjoyed today’s card

Just for You Card with the Afterthoughts stamp set and Razzleberry Lemonade DP

Posted: Tuesday, August 24th, 2010 | Comments (25)

Afterthoughts Stampin' Up! stamp set, Razzleberry Lemonade DP

Today’s card is a fun and bright tropical-themed card.  At least that’s what the flowers make me think of.  To create this card I felt like going with a Melon Mambo color scheme, so I pulled out one of my favorite retired Designer Paper packages – the Rich Razzleberry Lemonade collection.  Once I had the card created I pretty much immediately knew what stamps set would finish the card of perfectly – the “Afterthoughts” hostess level 1 set.

Here’s how I made the card:

  1. Fold a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of Whisper White CS in half using a bone folder.
  2. Stick a 2″ x 4 1/4″ piece of Razzleberry Lemonade DP to the card using SNAIL adhesive.
  3. Take a 2 3/4″ x 4″ piece of Old Olive CS and round the bottom right corner using a 3/16″ corner punch.
  4. Stick a 1″ x 2 3/4″ piece of Pumpkin Pie Patterns DP to the 2 3/4″ x 4″ piece of CS.
  5. Lay a 3 3/4″ piece of Melon Mambo Polka Dot Grosgrain ribbon across the seam of the Pumpkin Pie Patterns DP and the Old Olive CS.  Bring the ends of the ribbon around to the back of the card and stick them down with SNAIL adhesive.
  6. Stamp the “Just for You” greeting from the Afterthoughts hostess level 1 stamp set, in the bottom right corner of the Old Olive CS using VersaMark ink.  Sprinkle the greeting with Whisper White embossing powder.  Heat the greeting with a Heat Tool until the embossing powder is melted.
  7. Take a 2″ piece of Melon Mambo Polka Dot Grosgrain ribbon and fold it in half onto itself, securing the ends together using a mini glue dot.  Stick the folded ribbon, in the upper right hand corner, underneath the Old Olive CS using SNAIL adhesive.
  8. Repeat step 7 with a 2″ piece of 5/8″ Pumpkin Pie Grosgrain ribbon.
  9. Center and stick the Old Olive CS to the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  10. Using scrap piece of Old Olive, Melon Mambo and Pumpkin Pie CS, die cut three flowers and two leaves using a Big Shot and the Island Floral and Blossom Party dies.
  11. Add some texture to the flowers and leaves using a Big Shot and the Square Lattice Embossing folder.
  12. Lay the two Melon Mambo flowers on top of each other.  Pierce a hole in the center of the flowers, using a paper-piercing tool and a Mat Pack, and stick a pink circle rhinestone through the hole.
  13. Pierce a hole in the center of the Pumpkin Pie flower, using a paper-piercing tool and a Mat Pack, and stick a pumpkin circle rhinestone through the hole.
  14. Stick the leaves to the card using SNAIL adhesive.  Stick the flowers to the card using mini glue dots.  You’re done!

I hope you enjoyed today’s card.
