“Love You” Valentine’s Card & Some Updates

Posted: Monday, January 25th, 2010 | Comments (38)

Happy Monday everyone!  have a few different things to share with you today – a project of course, a special offer and I’m announcing the winners of The Write Stuff Class.

Today’s card is a Valentin’es card, or it could also be used as an anniversary card.  Of course I’m using one of my favorite color combinations – Pretty in Pink and Regal Rose  (although for some reason, the Regal Rose looked much darker than usual) and one of my favorite accessories – buttons!

You can download a pdf handout of how I made the card HERE.  The handout includes a picture, full supply list and step-by-step directions.

You can watch the video below:

Directions:

  1. Take a 4 ¼” x 11” piece of Pretty in Pink CS and fold it in half using a bone folder to create a 4 ¼” x 5 ½” card. Sponge the edges of the card using Regal Rose Classic ink and a wedge of Stamping Sponge.
  2. Take a 2” x 4” piece of Regal Rose CS and scallop along one of the 4” sides using the Scallop Trim Border punch.
  3. Stick a 3 ¾” x 4” piece of the Shades of Spring DP onto the scalloped Regal Rose CS piece using Snail adhesive.  Center and stick this piece along the bottom edge of the card front.
  4. Stamp your greeting in Basic Black Classic ink just above the scalloped border, towards the right side of the card, using a Stamp-a-ma-jig if necessary.
  5. Using your Big Shot, die cut the tag from the Stampin’ Up! Two Tags die out of Whisper White CS.  Sponge the edges with Regal Rose Classic ink and a wedge of Stamping Sponge.  Stick the tag to the card front on an angle as shown using Snail adhesive.
  6. Tie an 8” piece of Pretty in Pink Taffeta ribbon in a bow and stick towards the top of the tag using a mini glue dot.
  7. “Thread” two small white buttons and a pink button using slivers of coordinating CS.  Stick the buttons along the bottom of the tag using mini glue dots. Set the card aside for a moment.
  8. Stamp the large heart from the “A Happy Heart” stamp set onto a scrap of Whisper White CS in Regal Rose Classic ink.  Pat VersaMark ink all over the heart and then sprinkle on Iridescent Ice embossing powder.  Heat emboss with a heat tool.  Cut out the heart leaving a small border of white all around.
  9. Stick the heart so that it is half on the tag and half on the DP using a Stampin’ Dimensional.
  10. Dry emboss a scrap of Pretty in Pink CS using the Polka Dots textured impressions folder.  Punch out some hearts using the Heart to Heart punch. Sponge the edges of the tall heart with Regal Rose Classic ink.  Stick the heart onto the tag so that it slightly overlaps the larger heart using two Stampin’ Dimensionals. You’re done!

Chocolate Truffle Punch Project

Posted: Friday, January 22nd, 2010 | Comments (30)

ETA:  Someone did just bring it to my attention that there is an error in the box dimension that I offered.  It is actually 5″ x 7″ and the inside box space is 3″ x 2″ inside so that it can fit 2 truffles.  I am so sorry for the confusion.

Phew, what a week!  We have been having so much fun in the online classroom, and it has gone by in a whirlwind.  It has also been intensly busy, but that is actually not the reason why we have not posted for the past couple of days.  With all the video uploading that we have been doing for the online classroom, we have been having some real issues with our internet provider.  Apparantly they don’t like the fact that we have been uploading massive video’s to the classroom, and have been trying to limit our bandwidth.  Well we are back on the air so to speak, and I can finally share the project that I had originaly planned for Wednesday.

So, today’s project features a chocolate truffle punch project.  I made the box so that it could hold 2 large truffles.  It is perfect as a little gift to leave on a loved one’s pillow.  The PDF will show you the template for the box.  The inspiration for this project came from a Quickutz die.  Everyone knows how I love to take an existing die and create the same thing with my punches.  This way, anyone can make it.  So I hope you enjoy this week’s Punch Project, and I will see you again next week!

Hershey Marshmallow Treat Box

Posted: Tuesday, January 19th, 2010 | Comments (71)

Today’s project is a quick and easy box I designed to hold the Hershey Marshmallow Hearts. This is a gift I plan on giving my kids this Valentine’s.  I’ve decided that this year instead of only celebrating Valentine’s on the day itself, I’m going to do a countdown to Valentine’s and surprise my kids with a variety of treats and Valentine’s related activities….some crafts, we’ll bake together….and whatever else I can think of.  If you have any ideas, please leave them in the comments section.  I’d love to come up with 14 different things.  Actually, here’s a challenge for you all, give me 14 different ideas that can be used with kids for a countdown to Valentine’s, and I’ll design and post a modified “advent” calendar type idea for a countdown to Valentine’s day.  Now don’t feel like you each have to come up with all 14 ideas – a handful from each of you would be fine – what I’m hoping is that between ALL my readers, I’ll be able to get a list of at least 14 ideas.  Sound good?

You can download the pdf handout HERE.  It has a full supply list, template & step-by-step written directions.

You can watch a video of how today’s project was made below.

Directions:

  1. Take a 2 ¾” x 5” piece of Kraft CS and a 2 ⅝” x 2 ¾” piece of Kraft CS and randomly stamp the “tic, tac, toe” pattern all over both pieces in Very Vanilla Craft ink.  Fill in any empty spaces with the small heart from the I {Heart} Hearts stamp set.  Set these pieces aside to dry.
  2. Score, crease & cut your 4 ½” x 6 ½” and your 3 ¼” x 11 ¾” pieces of Chocolate Chip CS as indicated by the templates on the handout.
  3. Place some sticky strip along the outer side and center bottom flaps of the 4 ½” x 6 ⅛” piece, and on the small bottom flaps. Remove the backing from the Sticky strip on the small bottom flaps and stick them to the inside of the side center panels.
Remove the Sticky Strip from the bottom center flap and stick the outer side flaps to the bottom center flap.
  4. Remove the backing from the Sticky Strip on the side flaps and then stick your pocket onto one panel of the 3 ¼” x 11 ¾” piece of Chocolate Chip CS, making sure the bottom of the pocket is aligned with the bottom of the panel.  Your box is now assembled. Set aside for a moment.
  5. Stamp the scalloped greeting image onto a scrap of Very Vanilla CS in Basic Brown Classic ink.  Color in where desired using a blender pen and Real Red Classic ink.
  6. Punch out the image with the Scallop Circle Punch.   Using your 2-way glue pen, add Dazzling Diamonds glitter where desired.
Clip a small silver library clip to the scalloped greeting and set aside for a moment.
  7. Dry emboss a scrap of Real Red CS using your Big Shot and the Polka dot Textured Impressions folder. Punch out two sets of hearts using the Heart to Heart punch.  Set the hearts aside for a moment.
  8. Center and stick the 2 ¾” x 5” piece of Kraft CS onto a 3” x 5 ¼” piece of Real Red CS.  Lay a 7” piece of ¾” Real Red Polka dot ribbon (with the polka dot side down) across the Kraft CS (from top to bottom), about a ¼” from the left edge of the Kraft CS.  Bring the ends of the ribbon around to the back of the Real Red CS and stick down using Snail adhesive.
  9. Stick the matted Kraft CS to the front panel of your box with Sticky Strip.
  10. Stick the scalloped oval greeting with the clip to the box front with 3 Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  11. Stick the two hearts to the box front with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The box front is now decorated.
  12. Center and stick the 2 ⅝” x 2 ¾” piece of Kraft CS to a 2 ¾” x 2 ⅞” piece of Real Red CS.  Stick two of the embossed hearts to the bottom right corner of the Kraft CS piece using Snail adhesive.
  13. Center and stick the matted Kraft CS piece to the pocket front.  You’re done!

I hope you enjoyed today’s project!

P.S.  I had a few people leave a comment asking me where I got the candy for yesterday’s project – it was from Bulk Barn, a chain of bulk food stores.

Valentine’s Top Note Die Treat Topper

Posted: Monday, January 18th, 2010 | Comments (40)

What a day I had today!  Our “A Touch of Romance” online Valentine’s class officially kicked off today.  We’re absolutely thrilled with the fantastic response we’re getting.  We’ve had lots of involvement in the forums, some great project pictures being uploaded, and we’re generally having a good time getting to know one another.  If you still haven’t signed up for the online class it’s not too late.  You can do so from HERE.  We’re actually keeping registration open all week since it’s set up in such a way that you can come in and catch up on the projects and discussions at any time.

So that was the good part of today.  The bad part happened while I was filming today’s video.  I was right in the middle of heat embossing the stamped heart background paper when all of a sudden I heard a beep and my studio went black.  Yup! I overloaded a circuit because I had my lights that I use for illuminating my filming area plugged into the same extension cord as my heat tool.  I guess it couldn’t take it LOL  Of course my hubbie was not home, and I don’t know the first thing about electrical, so I was pretty panicked.  I went to our electrical panel with my flashlight (because the panel is behind a hidden door in my studio) and tried to figure out which circuit blew.  Well it looked to me like they were all fine.  I tried every single switch…and nothing.  Finally, as I was on the phone with an emergency electrical service, I realized that I actually had a second box underneath the main box – the second box had been installed when we finished the basement.  Sure enough that’s where the problem was and I got it all fixed.  So that was my adventure for today!

You can download a PDF handout of today’s project HERE.  The pdf includes a picture, full supply list and step-by-step directions.  We’ve put it in this format to make it easier for you to print the directions off and save them in your inspiration binder!

You can watch a video of how this was made, including a video on making your own glittery DP (what I die cut the Top Note out of):

I’m also going to continue including the directions below in case for some reason you can’t download the handout or you want to quickly scan through the instructions.

Directions:

  1. Take a 4 ¼” x 5 ½” piece of Whisper White CS and randomly stamp the trio heart image from the I {Heart} Hearts stamp set all over it in Real Red Craft ink. Sprinkle on Iridescent Ice embossing powder, tap off the excess and then heat with your heat tool.
  2. Die cut your Whisper White CS piece with your Big Shot and Top Note Die.  Fold your Top Note die in half and set aside.
  3. Die cut a scalloped circle out of Real Red CS using your Big Shot and Stampin’ Up!’s Pennant die. Set aside.
  4. Stamp your greeting onto a scrap of Whisper White CS.  Punch it out using the 1 ¾” circle punch, and then sponge the edges with Real Red Classic ink.
  5. Take two red buttons from the Designer Button Playground collection and “thread” them using a sliver of Real Red CS.  Stick them to the bottom of the Whisper White Circle (underneath the greeting) using a mini glue dot for each.
  6. Center and stick the Whisper White greeting circle to the Real Red scalloped circle using 3 Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  7. Place your candy inside your small flat cello bag.  Fold the top over about ¼” and staple the top shut.
  8. Stick your cello bag to the inside back of the Top Note die with Sticky Strip.
  9. Fold the Top Note closed and hold it shut by tying a 14” piece of Real Red Satin Ribbon around it in a knot.
  10. Stick the Real Red Scalloped Circle to the Top Note Topper with Stampin’ Dimensionals – make sure to allow the top of the scalloped circle to extend above the Top Note Topper about a ½”.  You’re done!

Well I hope you enjoyed today’s project!

ETA:  I’ve had a few people ask me where I got the candy from – I bought them at a store called Bulk Barn.  It’s a chain of bulk food stores.

Valentine’s Glassine Bag Treat Holder

Posted: Wednesday, January 13th, 2010 | Comments (35)

I was so excited when I saw that Stampin’ Up! is carrying Glassine bags in their Occasions Mini Catalogue!  There are so many neat things you can do with them.  Over the coming weeks you’ll probably see me share a variety of different ways they can be used.  One of the projects in our Online Valentine’s Class is actually a mini scrapbook using the glassine bags.  In today’s project I show you how to emboss the glassine bags using the Big Shot & the Perfect Polka Dots Textured Impressions folder.  I also show you how to apply rub-ons to chipboard and curl designer paper so that it looks like ribbon. You can see a close-up of the decorative accent I created for my glassine bag below.

If you’ve never embossed a surface that is LARGER than the size of the embossing folder, I suggest you watch the video for some tips on how to do it.  I had to divide the video into two segments because You Tube only allows a maximum of 10 minutes per video and this project took me just over 15 minutes from start to finish.

In Part 1 of the video you’ll see how I created the embellishment.  The video features three different techniques: coloring chipboard with craft ink, applying rub-ons to colored chipboard and creating the curled paper ribbon.

In Part 2 of the video you’ll see how I dry embossed the glassine bag using the Big Shot & an embossing folder, as well as how the final project was assembled.

You can downlaod a pdf of the handout HERE.  The pdf includes a photo of the project, full supply list, dimensions and written step-by-step directions.  There is also a link to this post so that you can come back and view the video if necessary.

I have also included the written directions in this post so that you don’t HAVE to download the handout if you don’t want to.  Plus I’ve heard from some Mac users that they aren’t always able to download the pdf.

Directions:

  1. Take a 4 ¾” x 6 ¾” Glassine bag and emboss it using your Big Shot & the Perfect Polka dots embossing folder.  You’ll need to run it through in 2 different sections as the bag is too large to fit inside.  Please refer to the video to see exactly how it was done. The “sandwich” used was the multipurpose platform open to the innermost panel, a cutting pad, the embossing folder with the glassine bag inside, and finally the standard premium crease pad.
  2. If you are filling your bag with baked goods then you may want to place them inside a medium cello bag so that they do not stain the glassine bag.  Place your cello bag inside the glassine bag, and fold the top over (I did not secure it closed although you could do so if you desire).
  3. Wrap a 15 ½” piece of Real Red Double Stitched Grosgrain ribbon around the treat bag and then overlap and stick one end of the ribbon to the other end with Snail adhesive.
  4. You will now need two chipboard hearts in a larger and smaller size.  I used the hearts from a retired Stampin’ Up! chipboard collection – you could use the On Board Essentials Chipboard collection, or use the Hearts & Brackets Original die (item #115955).
  5. Ink up the larger heart in Real Red Craft ink and the smaller heart in Pretty in Pink craft ink.  Let air dry, or to speed up the drying process you could use a heat tool.
  6. If desired, add a rub-on greeting to the Pretty in Pink Heart and then stick the Pretty in Pink heart to the Real Red heart using Crystal Effects.
  7. Punch a hole through the Real Red heart with a handheld 1/16” circle punch and insert a Real Red epoxy brad.
  8. Place a small line of Crystal Effects all around the outer edge of the Real Red heart and then sprinkle on some white Chunky Essentials glitter.  Let dry.
  9. Cut some ¼” wide strips of Sending Love DP (in whatever pattern and length you desire – make sure they are least 6” long).  Wrap them around the handle of a small paintbrush or a pencil to curl.  Stick them to the back of the Real Red chipboard heart with mini glue dots.
  10. Stick the Real Red Chipboard heart to the Real Red Double Stitched Grosgrain ribbon with a pop up glue dot.  You’re done!
