Be Mine Valentine’s Card
Posted: Monday, January 17th, 2011 | CommentsToday’s post is a pretty quick one – quicker than I had planned actually. Over the last two weeks we’ve had the flu running through our house and it’s been hitting one child after another. I guess the only bright side is that it’s been hitting them one at a time rather than all together.
This past weekend my 10 year old son had it. So while my husband was gone a good part of the weekend to a hockey tournament with my oldest son, I was home with the others and trying to help him out - the poor guy just couldn’t keep anything down. Thankfully today he seemed better, and I think that tomorrow he’ll get to go back to school.
The card I’m sharing with you today is actually one that I created for Paper Crafter’s Library. It uses one of my favourite color schemes - I just love the extra punch of color from the So Saffron and Tempting Turquoise on the flower. The flower is actually not a stamp – it’s a rub-on – which is why it shows so beautifully against the Crumb Cake CS background. It’s from Stampin’ Up!’s Play Date rub-on collection.
As you can see from the symbol on the bottom right corner there is a video for this card in the Paper Crafter’s Library, as well as a video on all the tips and tricks I’ve learned about applying rub-ons. Although they’re something that I use over an over again now, they took a bit of getting used to and learning the ins and outs of when I was first introduced to them.
Other news – our first Sunny Stampin’ Project ideas newsletter was released this weekend – my sister did a stinkin’ cute Valentine’s treat box. If you are reading this and you haven’t signed up for our newsletter – you can do so from the sign up box in the top right corner of the blog. We’re releasing a fantastic project twice a month with a free video and pdf.
I had a few people email me to remind me that I haven’t announced the winners of the Bring On The Cake Class Planner – I’ll do that in my post tomorrow. I’m just way too pooped tonight (with my son being sick over the weekend I got almost no sleep).
I also wanted to take a minute to thank you guys for the overwhelmingly positive response I’ve had about our new site Paper Crafter’s Library. There were a few negative nellies – but there always are. Overally we’ve been receiving fantastic feedback and I think the excitement of all our new members matches ours.
Anyways – have a great night and we’ll be back tomorrow with another post.
Love You Card Featuring Love Impressions DP and Red Glimmer Paper
Posted: Monday, January 3rd, 2011 | CommentsHappy New Year everyone! Although it may sound strange to say so, it is so good to be back at “work” …or should I say “play”? I had a wonderfully relaxing holiday and got to spend a lot of time with friends and family. I also got a lot of “sleep-in” time – which is something I haven’t done in YEARS! It felt SO good.
I don’t know about you, but I love January. There’s something about a brand new year that fills me with excitement….and what a year this is going to be. On January 11th I’ll be revealing a very exciting project that has been a year in the making….that’s all I’ll say for now!
The project I’m going to share with you today is a Valentine’s one that I created using some of the new products in Stampin’ Up!’s Occasions Mini Catalogue. Here is how I made the card:
-
Stick a 2 1/4″ x 1/4″ piece of Basic Gray DP to the top of a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ Basic Gray card.
-
Just underneath, stick a 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ piece of Stampin’ Up!’s new red Glimmer Paper.
-
Stick a 2″ x 4 1/4″ piece of Stampin’ Up!’s new Love Impressions DP to the top of a scalloped border die cut out of red glimmer paper (using the Big Shot and Tastefully Trim Bigz XL die) so that about 1/2″ of the scalloped border shows at the bottom of the DP.
-
Stick the DP with the scalloped border to the card so that it slightly overlaps the 1/2″ piece of red glimmer paper.
-
Lay a 5 1/2″ piece of Real Red Satin ribbon across the top edge of the DP, bring the ends around to the inside of the card front and stick them down.
-
Tie a bow around the first piece of ribbon with a 12″ piece of Real Red Satin Ribbon. Position the bow towards the left hand side of the card.
-
Cover a heart-shaped piece of chipboard with Real Red CS. Add a rub-on greeting and a red rhinestone.
-
Stick the heart to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
-
Cut two 4″ x 5 1/4″ pieces of Whisper White CS and center and stick them to the inside of the card (the one on the inside of the card front will hide the ribbon ends). You’re done!
I hope you enjoyed today’s card!
Okay…and now on to the winners of our holiday give-away. If your name was drawn please email me at andrea@sunnystampin.com with “holiday give-away” in the subject line. You win a digital tutorial of your choice from www.sunnystampinstore.com.

On Christmas Eve we had the traditional Portuguese supper of boiled cod fish, potatoes, eggs and greens. We dress these in some olive oil and vinegar. My favourite is Christmas day when we have the turkey and all the fixin’s….gotta love that stuffing and the cranberry sauce! We hosted Christmas day at our place this year with a big sit down dinner for 18 people. It was wonderful…..but now I am worn out and I have to build up my strength for the New Year. I can’t wait to see all of your great ideas! Have a wonderful and prosperous New Year Andrea & Sophia!

Family always comes first, especially this time of year. Our sons are grown with their own families and both live a distance away. It has been a long time since we got everyone together on the same day, but we did manage it the Sunday before Christmas. We got to experience about 5 hours before they had to continue on their travels to other parts of the country with other family members. Actually, this was the first Christmas day in 33 years that my husband and I spent without any kids in our house…… believe me, it was different! God did send me the “White Christmas” that I had wanted! With all of the snow, and travel being dangerous, I am enjoying spending time “blog hopping” and planning my Valentine projects. I look forward to seeing what two very talented Canadian friends have created! Happy New Year to both of you!!!

Bee Mine
Posted: Thursday, February 4th, 2010 | CommentsThis has not been my best week at all! My daughter came down with a Gastro-Intenstinal bug, which means keeping her quarantined to her room, doing tons of steralizing and lots of extra clean-up from her being sick. Thankfully it seems to be paying off since the younger two have managed to avoid getting it. Needless to say I have not had a ton of free time.
Anyways, for this project, I decided that I wanted to create something really cute and fun to give my daughter for Valentine’s day. This bee was the perfect solution. He expresses my sentiment nicely, and he is so bold and bright to cheer my girl up! I am also thinking that he could be used for other projects, such as a get well ( Bee Better), or a ( Just Bee-Cause) or how about a simple cheer up ( Bee Happy). So many fun applications! Well I hope you enjoyed today’s projects and that you will visit us again tomorrow when Andrea posts another fabulous creation
Hugs,
Simple Valentine
Posted: Friday, January 29th, 2010 | CommentsToday has certainly been a busy day, but then most days are so. I wanted to try out a simple card today, something which does not always come easily to me. So I went and browsed around the Internet, and came up with a really simple design that I liked by Nichole Heady. She has a really lovely simple yet elegant style. Since I am not allowed to put a direct link to the card, I placed a picture to show you the card that I meant. I just changed some little things, but definitely stayed with the same feel.
I really like the idea of having the punches of color on a White Backdrop. So I hope you enjoy today’s post and I will see you all again next week.

Valentine’s Bouquet
Posted: Thursday, January 28th, 2010 | CommentsToday I wanted to share with you a super simple but really fun-to-make Valentine’s bouquet. The last time I was at the dollar store (Dollarama here in Ontario – not sure if they have this chain elsewhere), I found the most adorable Valentine’s sugar cookies. They came in a box of 5, beautifully decorated, and individually wrapped in cellophane. I immediately thought they would look fantastic as part of a Valentine’s bouquet, so of course, I had to buy them. My vase, also came from that same dollar store.
I then headed over to our local craft store and bought some wooden dowels, white acrylic paint and glass beads.
ETA (Jan 29th): If your dollar store doesn’t have cookies like this then you could also use some of those pretty foil-wrapped chocolate hearts you can buy – there are all sorts of different kinds to choose from at the dollar store, bulk food store or grocery store.
You can download a pdf handout HERE. The pdf includes a photo, supply list and step-by-step written directions.
You can watch the video on how I made the flowers below:
Here’s how I made my flowers:
- Take your wooden dowels and paint them white using a foam brush and white acrylic paint. Set them aside to dry.
- Dry emboss five 4″ x 4″ pieces of Whisper White CS using the Perfect Polka Dot Textured Impressions folder and your big shot. Do the same for three 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ pieces of Real Red CS and two 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ pieces of Pretty in Pink CS.
- Dry emboss three 5 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ pieces of Real Red CS and two 5 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ pieces of Pretty in Pink CS using your Big Shot and the small polka dot textured impressions plate from the Stampin’ Up! Backgrounds I Collection.
- You will now need your Big Shot, extended cutting plates and the Stampin’ Up! Flower Folds Bigz XL die. Die cut three Real Red and two Pretty in Pink flowers from the LARGEST of the flowers out of the textured 5 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ CS pieces. Die cut three more Real Red and two more Pretty in Pink flowers from the LARGEST of the flowers out of non-textured 5 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ pieces of CS.
- Die cut three Pretty in Pink and two Real Red flowers from the flower that is the next size down using the textured 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ pieces of CS.
- Now die cut five Whisper White flowers from the second smallest flower, out of the 4″ x 4″ textured pieces of CS.
- Stick the cookie to the center of each of the Whisper White flowers using Sticky Strip.
- Stick two of the white flowers to a medium-sized flower (three Pretty in Pink and two Real Red) using Sticky Strip.
- Stick the medium flowers to the large texturized flowers (three Real Red and two Pretty in Pink) using Sticky Strip.
- Take one of the plain large Real Red flowers. Lay it on a piece of scrap paper, using a glue gun at the low setting, place a dollop of glue in the center of the flower. Press the dowel into the glue and then place some more the glue on top. Take one of the large Red Flowers with the cookie and sandwich it on top of the flower/glue/dowel. Press them gently together and then set aside to dry. Repeat for all the flowers.
- Tie a 16″ piece of Whisper White organza ribbon in a bow around each dowel.
- Place the clear glass beads into your vase and then arrange the flowers inside. Shorten the dowels with a saw if necessary. You’re done!
Hope you enjoyed today’s project!
