Thank You For Being You Card

Posted: Monday, February 7th, 2011 | Comments (38)

Happy Monday everyone!  Although many people groan when Monday rolls around, I personally love it, because I get to head down to my studio and immerse myself in the creative process.

Today I wanted to share with you a fun and bright card I created using some of my Stampin’ Up! Sale-a-Bration goodies. I paired the bright fun patterns of the Ice Cream Parlor Designer Series Paper & Quick Accents pack with a fun new stamp set from the Occasions Mini Catalog called Bold Blossom. Here’s how I made the card:

  1. Cut three pieces of DP – each in a different pattern – from the Ice Cream Parlor DP collection.  The Old Olive Polka Dot pattern is 1 3/4″ x 3 3/4″, the yellow pattern is 2 1/2″ x 3 3/4″ and the Melon Mambo pattern is 1 1/2″ x 3 3/4″.  I started with a 3 3/4″ x 5″ piece of Whisper White CS and then first centered and stuck the yellow pattern.  Once that was stuck down, I attached the Old Olive pattern and then the Melon Mambo pattern.
  2. Stitch around the edges of the layered DP piece with your sewing machine and white thread.
  3. Lay a 5 1/2″ piece of Old Olive Taffeta ribbon across the edge of the Old Olive DP.  Bring the ends around back and stick them down to the CS.
  4. Center and stick the layered DP piece onto a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Melon Mambo CS, and then center and stick this onto a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ Whisper White card front.
  5. Scallop one 2 1/4″ side of a 2 1/2″ x 4″ piece of Whisper White CS using the Scallop Edge Border punch. Round the top left and right corners with a 1/2″ corner rounder punch.
  6. Stamp the leaves from the Bold Blossom stamp set twice onto the Whisper White CS piece in Pear Pizzazz Classic ink. Add a small pale green rhinestone where each of the sets of leaves intersect the stem. Stamp the greeting in the bottom right corner in black ink.
  7. Die cut a large 6 petal flower from the Birds and Blooms Sizzlits die out of Pink Pirouette CS and one out of Pacific Point CS. Die cut the medium 6 petal flower from the Birds and Blooms Sizzlits die out of Melon Mambo CS and Daffodil Delight CS.
  8. Distress the flowers by spritzing them with a mini mister and water and then gently crumpling and uncrumpling them.  Let them dry and then layer them with Stampin’ Dimensionals and stick them to the top of the stamped stems.
  9. Faux thread a Melon Mambo and Daffodil Delight button from the Ice Cream Parlor Ribbon & Button pack with coordinating slivers of DP.  Stick them to the center of the flowers with a mini glue dot for each.
  10. Center and stick the Whisper White image piece to the card front.  You’re done!

I hope you all enjoyed today’s card!

I would like to close today’s post with a big thank you for the outpouring of love and support I’ve received from the vast majority of you over my announcement of my resignation from Stampin’ Up!. French Foliage Thank You Card & Winners of the October Class & Workshop Planner

Posted: Monday, October 25th, 2010 | Comments (13)

For today’s card I used the French Foliage stamp set – one of my favourite stamp sets from the Holiday Mini Catalogue.  Actually, that’s probably not 100% true as pretty much ALL the stamp sets in the mini are my favourite LOL.  What’s rare for me with this card, is that it does not use ANY DP at ALL!  I know…shocking isn’t it?  To create the background I incorporated a very simply sponging technique.  BTW, be sure to check out the post below this one as I posted another of the Founder’s Circle swap cards I received. Here’s how I made the card:

  1. Cut a 3 1/4″ x 4 1/2″ piece of Very Vanilla CS.
  2. Sponge the Very Vanilla CS piece with Cajun Craze, More Mustard and Old Olive Classic ink.  I used a separate wedge of stamping sponge for each of the colors.  I began by lightly tapping the sponge on the ink pad and the starting off the CS, I began sponging in a fast circular motion onto the CS.
  3. Randomly stamp the splatter image a few times onto the Very Vanilla CS using Crumb Cake Classic ink.
  4. Randomly stamp the leaf images onto the Very Vanilla CS with Early Espresso Classic ink.
  5. Ink up the script image with Early Espresso Classic ink, stamp it off once onto scrap paper and then stamp it onto the Very Vanilla CS.  Repeat as many times as desired.  Do the same thing with the little postscript image.
  6. Lightly spritz the stamped Very Vanilla CS piece with gold Smooch Spritz.
  7. Center and stick the Very Vanilla CS piece onto a 3 1/2″ x 4 3/4″ piece of Early Espresso CS.
  8. Cut a 3/4″ x 3 1/2″ piece of Very Vanilla CS.  Cut a fish tail in one end (the right side) with you paper snips.  Sponge it with Crumb Cake Classic ink and Early Espresso Classic ink.
  9. Stamp the thank you greeting onto the Very Vanilla CS strip in Early Espresso Classic ink. Slightly round the greeting flag with the edge of the blade of your paper snips.
  10. Stick the left side of the greeting flag to the matted image piece using a bit of Dotto adhesive.
  11. Pierce a hole through the left side of the flag with a paper-piercing tool and a foam mat.
  12. You will now need a vintage brad, a 2″ piece of lace and three 4″ pieces of linen thread.  Lay the pieces of linen thread one on top of the other. Tie them in a knot around the prong of the vintage brad.  Take the piece of lace and sponge it with Crumb Cake Classic ink.  Fold it in half and then insert the prong of the vintage brad through the folded part of the lace.
  13. With the linen thread and lace attached, insert the prong of the brad through the hole you pierced in step 10.  Open the prongs of the brad at the back of the CS to secure in place.  Stick the right side of the greeting flag down with a mini glue dot.
  14. Take a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of Crumb Cake CS.  Fold it in half with a bone folder to create a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card.
  15. Sponge the edges of the card with Crumb Cake Classic ink.  Randomly stamp the splatter image in the top left and bottom right corners of the Crumb Cake card front.
  16. Center and stick the matted image piece onto the card front with SNAIL adhesive.  You’re done!

Silhouette Sentiments Card & Some Winners

Posted: Thursday, September 9th, 2010 | Comments (25)

Don’t you just love the colors of the designer paper I used for today’s card?  I sure do – the blues and the green look so serene.  Who would have thought that the paper comes from the Nursery Suite DP collection – a collection of designer paper with a baby theme.  That’s one of the things I love about Stampin’ Up! – their products are so versatile.

Here’s how I made today’s card:

  1. Center and stick a 4″ x 4″ piece of DP to a 4 1/4″ x 4 1/4″ piece of Old Olive CS.
  2. Center and stick the matted DP to the front of a 5 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ Crumb Cake CS card (formerly called Kraft CS).
  3. Place a strip of Sticky Strip across the card, over top of the matted DP, about 1 3/4″ up from the bottom of the card.
  4. For the ribbon I used a technique called ribbon ruching.  I ruched the ribbon across the first 3″ of the card, and then I laid the ribbon flat for the remainder of the card.  It’s a bit difficult to explain this technique but I will have a video on how to do it on my new Paper Crafter’s Library site.  If you haven’t already signed up, and you’re interested in more info about this site, you can sign up for my advance notification email list AND receive a free video on creating a ribbon flower by answering one simple survey question.
  5. Stamp the silhouette bird image onto a scrap of Whisper White CS in Early Espresso Classic ink.  Stamp the greeting underneath also using Early Espresso ink.
  6. Punch out the image and greeting using the new extra large decorative label punch.
  7. Sponge the edges of the greeting label with Old Olive Classic ink.
  8. Thread some CS through the button to create the look of “faux” thread. Stick the button to the left of the image with a mini glue dot.
  9. Stick the image to the right of the card, over the flat part of the ribbon with two Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  10. Place some 3mm clear rhinestones at the center of the Baja Breeze diamonds.  You’re done!

Supplies used are all Stampin’ Up! unless otherwise noted:

Stamps: Silhouette Sentiments, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Ink: Early Espresso Classic ink, Old Olive Classic ink
Paper: Crumb Cake CS, Old Olive CS, Whisper White CS, Nursery Suite DP
Accessories: Extra-large Decorative Label punch, Old Olive Satin Ribbon, Sticky Strip, mini glue dots, Brights designer buttons, Stampin’ Dimensionals, bone folder, paper snips, Basic Rhinestones, stamping sponge

Okay and now for some winners……

So Kind Card & the Winners of the Island Oasis Class

Posted: Monday, June 21st, 2010 | Comments (18)

I hope everyone had a wonderful Father’s Day weekend.  I had a nice, albeit busy weekend. We spent Father’s Day at my brother- and sister-in-law’s house for a Father’s Day BBQ.  It was such a beautiful sunny day and the kids all had a riot getting soaked with water guns.

Although I wasn’t feeling very inspired when I sat down to stamp today, it turns out I actually like today’s card. Here’s how I made it:

  1. Cut a 3″ x 5″ piece of the polka dot pattern from the Tropical Party DP collection and sponge it with So Saffron Classic ink.  I found that the white background was too stark which is why I ended up sponging it.  It really softened the look of it.
  2. Take a 2″ x 5″ piece of Old Olive CS and scallop it using the slit punch (which I just discovered will be retiring at the end of this month).
  3. Stick the DP to the the scalloped CS strip using Snail adhesive. Pierce a hole in the center of each scallop.
  4. Lay a 6″ piece of ribbon across the DP so that it covers the seam between the DP and the CS.  Bring the ends of the ribbon around to the back of the CS and stick them down with Snail adhesive.
  5. Center and stick the DP to a Certainly Celery card created by folding a 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ piece of Certainly CS in half.
  6. Center and stamp the greeting along the top of the DP in Basic Black Classic ink. Use a Stamp-a-ma-jig if necessary.
  7. Tie a 14″ piece of Real Red Grosgrain ribbon in a bow around the first piece of ribbon.
  8. Die cut the medium and small complete butterflies from the Beautiful Butterflies Bigz die, out of Real Red CS using the Big Shot.
  9. Dry emboss the butterflies with the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder and your Big Shot.
  10. Stick the smaller butterfly to a scrap of paper with Dotto adhesive.
  11. Pat a VersaMark pad all over the butterfly. Sprinkle on Heat and Stick powder and then melt it with a heat tool.  Sprinkle on red Chunky Essentials glitter and then heat set.
  12. Stick the smaller butterfly to the larger butterfly with a mini glue dot.
  13. Stick the larger butterfly to the card front as shown in the picture above, using two mini glue dots.
  14. Create the butterfly antennae and the trail with black peel & stick rhinestone brads. You’re done!

I hope you enjoyed today’s card.

Just a quick update – you probably won’t be seeing any cards posted by Soph for a few weeks as moving week is finally here for her.  Her craft supplies get officially packed on Wednesday (and her other house stuff too, but we all know what’s really important right? *wink*). Her move-in date is on June 28th. Anyways, we’re going to temporarily suspend our planned weekly features for the summer since it’s going to be quite challenging to try to stick to a schedule over the next few months.  We’re pretty much just going to share with you whatever we’ve been creating.

The winners of the Island Oasis Class are:

WOW Wednesday: Chic Boutique Vintage

Posted: Wednesday, April 28th, 2010 | Comments (32)

Welcome to our blog’s WOW Wednesday feature.  The purpose of WOW Wednesday’s is to share with you projects that are a little bit over the top.  Now I do want to point out that my over-the-top projects are different than Soph’s over-the-top projects.  As my style of stamping tends to be simpler overall, I consider any card that takes me longer than half an hour to make a WOW card *LOL*!

Today’s WOW card is definitely not my usual style.  Vintage is really hot right now and that is the feel that I was trying to acheive.  In the pdf handout I do talk about how I aged the CS piece onto which my focal image is stamped and I also explain how I created the pink flower.

The yellow flower I created was based on THIS TUTORIAL by Betsy Veldman.  The only difference between mine and hers is that mine is smaller so I only needed to punch out 6 flowers in all for the top portion and a seventh for the base.

Download the PDF handout HERE.
