Happy Halloween Card featuring the Dark & Dreary Stamp set and Nite Owl DP

Posted: Monday, October 18th, 2010 | Comments (10)

I’m back with another Halloween card today, something that is a little bit different than my usual style. I was in an experimenting mood though and decided to just “go with the flow” and see where it led me. Althouth I haven’t yet decided if I like the Basic Black “distressing” along the outer edges of the card, I do like how my bat border turned out. Here’s how I made the card:

  1. Take a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of Crumb Cake CS and fold it in half with a bone folder to create a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card.
  2. Drag a Basic Black ink pad along all of the edges of the card until you acheive your desired look (I was pretty heavy handed with the black).
  3. Cut a 3 1/4″ x 4 3/4″ piece of DP from the Nite Owl DP collection (in the Holiday Mini).
  4. Punch three bats out of Basic Black CS using the Bitty Bat punch. Slip the bottom edge of the bats beneath the right edge of the DP and stick them there using SNAIL adhesive – the bats should be aligned wing tip to wing tip.  Trim off any excess that overhangs the DP.
  5. Lay a 5 1/2″ piece of Only Orange Grosgrain ribbon across the seam of the DP (in between the DP and the bat border).  Bring the ends of the ribbon around to the back of the DP and stick them down with SNAIL adhesive.
  6. Center and stick the DP onto the card front.
  7. Tie an 8″ piece of ribbon in a knot around the first piece of ribbon.  Position the knot towards the top of the card.
  8. Stamp the greeting image from the Dark and Dreary stamp set onto a piece of Whisper White CS in Basic Black Classic ink.  Trim around it, leaving an even white border, using your paper cutter.
  9. Stamp the greeting a second time onto a scrap of Pumpkin Pie CS in Basic Black Classic ink. Punch out the number “31″ with a 1/2″ circle punch. Center and stick the Pumpkin Pie “31″ circle over the “31″ circle on the first image.
  10. Stick the greeting image to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  11. Clip a small black mini library clip to the top of the greeting image.  Tie a 3″ piece of narrow black taffeta ribbon in a half knot and stick it to the top of the mini library clip with a mini glue dot.
  12. Add some Dazzling Diamonds glitter to the greeting image with a 2-way glue pen.
  13. Punch 2 bats out of Basic Black CS with the Bitty Bat punch. Temporarily stick them to a scrap of paper with Dotto adhesive.  Pat a VersaMark pad all over the bats.  Sprinkle on Heat and Stick powder and melt it with a heat tool.  Sprinkle on black glitter and heat set.
  14. Stick the bats to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  You’re done!

I hope you enjoyed today’s card.

Founder’s Circle Swap Card by Dawn Griffith

Posted: Sunday, October 17th, 2010 | Comments (4)

As I mentioned yesterday, I’ve decided that over the next number of months, I’d share with you some of my trip details in a Saturday post (from Founder’s Circle and then from our trip), and then on Sunday’s I’d share with you one of the cards I received in the swap from Founder’s Circle.

Today’s swap card was made by Dawn Griffith – a fellow Stampin’ Up! demonstrator from the US.  I chose this card to share with you first as it uses some of my favorite Halloween products from the Catalogue and Holiday Mini Catalogue, and of course because Halloween is coming up.  It uses both the Dark and Dreary and Wicked Cool stamp sets, as well as the Wicked Fun Specialty Designer Paper.

I hope the rest of your weekend is great, and we’ll see you back tomorrow!

Spooky Card with the From the Crypt Stamp Set and the Wicked Fun Specialty DP

Posted: Thursday, October 14th, 2010 | Comments (4)

Today I wanted to share with you a spooky Halloween card using the From the Crypt stamp set and the Wicked Fun Specialty DP.  It’s funny because although I never really give out Halloween cards, I really do like to make them.

Here’s how I made today’s card:

  1. Take a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of Crumb Cake CS (formerly called Kraft CS) and fold it in half with a bone folder to create a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card.
  2. Drag a Basic Black Classic ink pad along all the edges of the card to give them an inky, distressed look.
  3. Center and stick a 3 3/4″ x 5″ piece of Rich Razzleberry DP from the Wicked Fun Specialty DP collection onto a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Basic Black CS.
  4. Cut a 2″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Spooky DP from the Wicked Fun Specialty DP collection and drag a Basic Black Classic ink pad along the left and right 2″ edges.
  5. Stick this along the top of the 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of DP.
  6. Lay a 5″ piece of the black Raven lace trim across the Spooky DP so that the top edge of the lace is slightly above the bottom edge of the Spooky DP. Bring the ends of the lace around to the back of the CS and stick them down with SNAIL adhesive.
  7. Lay a 5″ piece of Basic Black 5/8″ Grosgrain ribbon across the Spooky DP so that the bottom edge is aligned with the bottom edge of the Spooky DP. It should cover the top edge of the lace trim.  Bring the ends of the ribbon around to the back of the CS and stick them down with SNAIL adhesive.
  8. Center and stick the matted and decorated DP piece to the card front.
  9. Temporarily stick a 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ piece of Crumb Cake CS to your grid paper using re-positionable Dotto adhesive.  Using a Stamp-a-ma-jig, center and stamp the “Spooky” greeting at the bottom of the Crumb Cake CS piece in Basic Black Classic ink. Keep holding the T-tool from the Stamp-a-ma-jig in place, re-ink the greeting and stamp over the first greeting.  Sometimes when stamping on darker colors of CS (really anything other than white or vanilla), dark colors aren’t as crisp and bold when stamped only once.  I typically re-ink the stamp and stamp over the image as many times as necessary to achieve the depth of color I desire.
  10. Using a Stamp-a-ma-jig and Basic Black Classic ink, stamp the skull image onto the Crumb Cake CS piece just above the image. You may need to re-ink the stamp and stamp the image over several times.
  11. Center and stick the stamped Crumb Cake CS piece onto a 2 5/8″ x 3 5/8″ piece of Basic Black CS.
  12. Lay the matted image piece onto a foam mat and pierce a hole through the center of each of the skull’s eyes.  Insert a medium clear rhinestone brad into each hole and open up the prongs at the back.
  13. Stick the matted image to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  14. Punch two bats out of Basic Black CS using the Bitty Bat punch.  Temporarily stick the punched bats to a scrap of CS with Dotto adhesive.  Pat a VersaMark pad all over the bats.  Sprinkle on Heat and Stick powder and then melt it with a heat tool.  Sprinkle some fine black glitter from the Fine Galaxy glitter collection all over the bats.  Heat with a heat tool to set.
  15. Stick the bats to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  You’re done!

I hope you enjoyed today’s card.

Halloween Boo Card

Posted: Monday, October 26th, 2009 | Comments (42)

stampinupHalloweenBoo

Just a note before I share with you the details on today’s card. I will be announcing the winners of the Serene Snowflakes Stamp Class by Email/Class Planner a bit later this evening. If you’re a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator and you’re waiting for the announcement of the winner of the one year class or workshop planner subscription over at www.demotodemo.com – that will be coming later this evening as well.  At the moment I don’t have time as I’m typing furiously trying to get this post up before dinner.

You can see a video of today’s card below.  This card uses Stampin’ Up!’s Jumbo Stampin’ Around wheel, so if you’ve never used one before then you may pick up a few tips.

 Directions:

  1. Take a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of Old Olive CS and fold it in half using a bone folder. Set aside for a moment.
  2. Stick a 2″ x 5 1/2″ piece of Whisper White CS to some scrap paper using Dotto adhesive.
  3. Insert your Jumbo Haunting Wheel into the Jumbo Stampin’ Around Handle.  Ink up your wheel on a Classic Black ink pad.  Wheel the image onto your Whisper White CS.  Before you wheel your image, check your seam alignment (see video for what I mean).  Start your wheel before you CS piece (on the grid paper) and wheel all the way off your Whisper White CS piece. Let your image dry.
  4. Mat the image onto a 2 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ piece of Elegant Eggplant CS.  Set aside for a moment.
  5. Punch out 5 circles from the Elegant Eggplant DP pattern in the Cast-a-Spell DP collection using the 1 3/8″ circle punch.
  6. Pierce a hole in the bottom of each circle, just under a 1/4″ away from the edge.
  7. Insert a black brad from the Vintage Brads collection into each hole.
  8. Stick the circles along the bottom edge of you card, overlapping them so that they start at the very left edge and end at the right edge.  You want the bottom of the circles to be aligned with the bottom edge of the Old Olive card front.
  9. Take a 1 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ piece of striped Cast-a-Spell DP.  Lay a 7″ piece of 1/4″ Elegant Eggplant grosgrain ribbon across the DP.  Bring the ends of the ribbon around to the back of the DP and stick them down using Snail adhesive.
  10. Stick the DP strip to the card front about 5/8″ up from the bottom edge of the card.
  11. Stick the matted image piece to the card front so that it is about 1/4″ down from the top edge of the card.
  12. Stamp the Halloween definition from the Eat, Drink and Be Scary stamp set twice, one on top of each other on a scrap of Whisper White CS in Basic Gray ink.  Center the Designer Label punch over the stamped words and punch out a label.
  13. Die cut out the word “Boo” from Basic Black CS using the Naturally Serif Sizzlit Decorative Strip Die and your Big Shot.
  14. Center and stick the letters onto the Designer Label punch.
  15. Punch out a 1 3/8″ circle out of Basic Black CS.  Center and mat the Designer Label punch to the black CS circle.
  16. Stick the greeting to the card front, about 1″ away from the right edge of the card, using two Stampin’ Dimensionals.  You’re done!

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!

On a second note – I apologize for the low number of posts last week – the holiday season is always the busiest time of year for me, and with the introduction of the Memories Your Way products and the Gifts Your Way Products it’s been busier than ever.  I just wanted to update on on the status of those products.  The Gifts YOUR Way Card Organizer will continue to be available indefinitely. I’ve decided to keep the Christmas Jingle Tri-Shutter Album available until the end of November.  The Autumn Double Slider Albums however, I’ve decided to pull.  They take an awful lot of time & work to make (each album takes about 1 hour) and frankly I’ve had enough of them for now.  I may bring them back at some point but I’m not sure.  I’ve got 12 more of the Really Rust and then that’s it – More Mustard is sold out. So if you’ve been wanting one, you’re going to need to jump on it, because once those 12 are sold, I’m pulling it.

Friday Fun Folds: Halloween Treat Holder

Posted: Friday, October 16th, 2009 | Comments (28)

HalloweenTreats

Today I wanted to share with you a really quick, easy and fun way to package up your Halloween treats.  If you have school-aged kids and you’re the mom that likes to send the hand-stamped Halloween treats to school for your child to hand out to his/her classmates, then this is the project for you.

Directions:

  1. Take a 3″ x 12″ piece of Stampin’ Up!’s Cast-a-Spell Designer Paper and fold it in half using your bone folder.
  2. Slide your word window punch onto one of the 3″ edges as far as it goes, center it between the left and right edge and punch.
  3. Place your DP with the punched “window” face up on a foam mat and pierce a hole in the top left and right corners with a paper-piercing tool and foam mat.
  4. Insert a More Mustard brad from the Earth Elements brad collection into each hole (the More Mustard brads look kind of orange and coordinate well with the Pumpkin Pie CS).
  5. Lay your 3″x 12″ piece of DP on the grid paper in front of you with the pattern that is going to be on the outside face down.  Have the punched “window” oriented towards the left side – this side is your front panel – the other side will be the back panel.  Starting at the insider of the score line on your back panel, run a piece of Sticky Strip along the left and right edges of the DP.
  6. Peel the red backing from the Sticky Strip and stick the front and back panels together.
  7. Insert the treat into the pouch you created.  It will be a bit snug – that is how it was designed so that your treat won’t easily fall out.
  8. Tie a 13″ piece of Pumpkin Pie striped grosgrain ribbon around the pouch in a knot.
  9. Punch the tag from the Eat, Drink and Be Scary stamp set onto a scrap of Whisper White CS in Basic Black Classic ink.  Punch it out with the small tag punch.  Punch out a larger tag with the large tag punch out of Pumpkin Pie CS.
  10. Mat the small tag onto the larger tag with Snail adhesive.  Punch a hole through the top of the matted tag with a 1/16″ handheld circle punch.
  11. Tie the tag around the Pumpkin Pie ribbon knot with a 5″ piece of Silver Elastic Cord.  You’re done!

I hope you enjoyed this project! Check back later today because I’ll have the newsest Stamp Class by Email and Class Planner posted.
