Vintage Vogue Friendship Card
Posted: Tuesday, July 13th, 2010 | Comments
I have to tell you, I've been on pins and needles for the last two days! My order from the new Stampin' Up! catalogue is due to arrive today, YAY! For the last few weeks, it's been a real struggle creating. I've felt uninspired by the old stuff, not to mention so much of it is retired, and I've felt so limited by the pre-order stuff. After all, I can't keep showing cards made with the same stamp sets and same DP's day after day can I *wink*?
As I anxiously await the delivery of my order I decided to pull out one of my favourite retired patterned paper collections (Cottage Wall DP) and pair it with the Vintage Vogue stamp set (which is in the new catalogue). I also added some stitching to my card with my little Janome Sew Mini (LOVE that little machine...it's just perfect for cards). I CASED the design of this card from Jennifer McGuire (love her stuff!). You can see her card HERE. Here's how I made my card:
-
Take a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece of Pale Plum CS and fold it in half with your bone folder to create a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" card.
-
Center and stick a 4 1/8" x 5 3/8" piece of Rich Razzleberry CS onto the Pale Plum card front.
-
You will now need a 4" x 5 1/4" piece of Crumb Cake CS (formerly called Kraft CS). Stick a 1" x 5 1/4" strip of DP onto the Crumb Cake CS piece - align it so that the right edge of the DP is 2 1/2" in from the left edge of the card.
-
Take a 1 1/2" x 5 1/4" piece of polka dotted DP and overlap the plum DP, leaving about 1/2" of the plum DP showing.
-
Using a sewing machine and white thread, sew a zig zag stitch along the left edge of the olive polka dotted DP. Lay a 6 1/2" piece of Old Olive taffeta ribbon (from the Mistletoe collection which was in the Holiday Mini Catalogue I believe and is now retired) across the olive polka dotted DP, about 1/4" in from the right edge of the DP. Stitch a straight stitch down the center of the ribbon. Bring the ends of the ribbon around to the back of the DP and stick them down.
-
Sew a straight stitch down the plum DP closer to the right edge of the DP.
-
Center and stick the Crumb Cake CS piece with the stitched DP onto the Rich Razzleberry CS using SNAIL adhesive. Set aside for a moment.
-
Cut a 1 7/8" x 3" piece of Whisper White CS and sponge the edges with Old Olive Classic ink and a wedge of Stamping Sponge.
-
Take the vine stamp from the Vintage Vogue stamp set and ink it up in Old Olive Classic ink. Stamp it off once onto your grid paper and then stamp it onto the Whisper White CS piece.
-
Ink up the "F" stamp with Rich Razzleberry Classic ink, and stamp it off once onto your scrap paper. Stamp the "F" onto a scrap of Whisper White CS. Cut it out. As you cut it out, carefully cut around the friend image so that you can use this separately.
-
Stick the cut out "F" to the stamped Whisper White CS piece with Stampin' Dimensionals.
-
Mat the Whisper White CS piece to a 2" x 3 1/8" piece of Rich Razzleberry CS, and then center and stick this onto a 2 1/2" x 3 1/4" piece of Pale Plum CS.
-
Stick the "friend" tab that you cut in step 10 to the right of the matted Whisper White image piece.
-
Stick the matted image piece to the Crumb Cake CS about 1/4" from the left edge and a 1/2" down from the top edge of the Crumb Cake CS.
-
Stick three tiny lavender rhinestones to the vine image. Stick three medium lavender rhinestones, one on top of each other, just below the matted image piece, close to the right edge of the plum DP. You're done!
Whew! Lots of typing for this one! Well I hope you enjoyed today's card. Next card I make for you will be with BRAND NEW STUFF! Woohoo!

Finally Friday: Friends 24-7
Posted: Friday, May 14th, 2010 | CommentsHappy Friday everyone! I can’t believe that’s it’s Friday already. The weeks seems to have just flown by. Today I wanted to share with you a relatively simple yet striking card I made last week but never got around to sharing. This card is a little bit out of the ordinary for me as I don’t usually stamp directly onto a white background. It’s something I’m just starting to get comfortable with. I have to tell you though that I absolutely love how this one turned out! I’m not sure that the picture really shows you how pretty the card is in real life. Photographing white cards can be a bit challenging – white on white just doesn’t work at all. The way I took my picture above, the camera totally distorted the color of green on the CS but maintained the color on the ribbon. When I arranged the background paper the opposite way, there was a green reflection on the card. For the life of me, I couldn’t fix it in photoshop – so I picked the best of the photos I had.
You can download a pdf handout of today’s card HERE. The handout includes a full supply list, dimensions and directions.
I hope you enjoyed this card and that you have a wonderful weekend!

Embossed Butterfly Birthday Card
Posted: Wednesday, January 6th, 2010 | CommentsToday I wanted to share with you a card I made using some of the brand new product in the Occasions Mini Catalogue. I cannot tell you how in love I am with this catalogue! When Stampin’ Up! first released it on the demonstrator website, and I got my first look at it, my jaw just about hit the table. I was seriously stunned, each page was better than the last. Of course after I got over the shock, I couldn’t stop drooling over all the delicious new goodies…and then of course I just had to start putting together my wish list. That must have taken me at least 3 or 4 days to do. Thank goodness Stampin’ Up! gave us plenty of time between the Mini Catalogue preview and the start of our pre-order for me to finally make up my mind.
When I designed my card, I decided to use the Sending Love Specialty DP, but not for a Valentine’s project. I thought that the glittery pink paper I chose would be perfect for a female birthday card. After all, what girl doesn’t like pink and bling right?
You can watch a video on how I made the card below:
Directions:
- Take a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of Kraft CS and fold it in half using your bone folder to create your card base.
- Center and stick a 2″ x 5 1/4″ piece of the glittery pink DP from the Sending Love DP collection along the top of your card – make sure you leave an even border along the left, right and top edges.
- Stamp a greeting from the Well Scripted stamp set in the bottom left corner of the card front using Chocolate Chip Classic ink.
- Take a 2″ x 5 1/2″ piece of Chocolate Chip CS and scallop one 5 1/2″ edge using the Scallop Trim Border punch. Trim this Chocolate Chip CS piece so that it is 1″ wide using a paper cutter (I like to use Stampin’ Up!’s table top paper cutter).
- Stick the scalloped Chocolate Chip CS piece onto the card front using Snail adhesive, so that the bottom edge of the scallops are about 1/4″ above the top of your stamped greeting.
- Open up your card and lay your card front on a foam mat. Using your paper-piercing tool, pierce three holes – in a row, spaced slightly greater than 1/4″ apart – along the left side of the scalloped Chocolate Chip CS strip.
- Insert a clear rhinestone brad into each hole – I used a small brad, then a medium brad and then another small brad. The prongs will show on the inside of the card. If this bothers you, you can cut two 4″ x 5 1/4″ pieces of Very Vanilla CS and center and stick them to the inside of the card front and back. The Very Vanilla CS will cover up the prongs of the brads. Set your card aside for a moment.
- You will now need a 2″ x 2 1/2″ scrap of both Very Vanilla CS and Pretty in Pink CS. Die cut each of these pieces using the Stampin’ Up! Beautiful Wings Embosslit die and your Big Shot.
- Stick the desired number/size of butterflies onto your scalloped Chocolate Chip CS using a mini glue dot for each. You’re done!
I hope you enjoyed today’s project!

Penny For Your Thoughts
Posted: Wednesday, October 7th, 2009 | Comments
ETA: Yes, I looked at the card in the photo and realized that I forgot to put in the H. It was cut, I was just so frazzled that somehow I forgot it. So no need to mention…………….I know, pretty embarassing!
Well, this weeks punch tutorial annoyed the heck out of me. I like how the penny turned out, but could not seem to get it into a card that I liked. I will be trying a few other combinations, but for the meantime you can look at this card. Now unfortunately I won’t be doing a video this week, my kids are all sick, as am I and I have no voice worth listening to. I figured rather then subjecting you to my hoarse croak, I would just do a picture tutorial, and then replace it with a video when my voice is better. Ok, so the idea behind this tutorial is the expression: “A Penny for your thoughts”. I love that expression, and rather then gluing on a real penny I decided to make one out of paper which could be larger than the real thing. The penny is popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals. Now I would have preferred to have the whole contents shifted upwards a bit, but when I started gluing I had intended to have an A at the top, and discovered that it looked like a Dunce cap. I removed the A but was stuck with it to low. Oh well. As a side not, you can also make this coin in yellow CS to imitate gold coins.
Download JPEG Penny Silhouette Here
Download and save on your computer. To print, open file in a word document and print on to cheap printer CS. Size should not be altered for 1 3/4″ circle, but can be altered for smaller coins.
Tutorial:

Print out your silhouette template on to some cheap Cardstock. Trace the image on to your Creamy Caramel CS and then cut out. Punch out a circle with your 1 3/4″ circle punch.
