This newsletter issue’s card is this fun, bright card featuring the Sweet and Sour Specialty DP.
Last week I sent out an email to my email newsletter subscribers offering a free video tutorial on how to make the ribbon flower shown above in exchange for their feedback. I’m now offering you all the same opportunity. I’m working on an exciting new launch of a paper crafting video library called the Paper Crafter’s Library, and I could really use some input. If you click HERE you’ll be taken to my survey page asking you to answer one question. When you answer that question you will receive the free video tutorial for the ribbon flower shown above and you will get put on a first notification list about the new site. As part of this list you will also be entitled to other free, exclusive content.

Here’s how I made the card:

Sponge a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Crumb Cake CS with a stamping sponge and the tea stain distress ink.

Die cut a Top Note die out of Sweet and Sour DP, cut it in half and then stick it along the top half of the Crumb Cake CS piece with SNAIL adhesive.

Lay a 6″ piece of Whisper White grosgrain ribbon across the Crumb Cake CS so that it covers the cut edge of the Top Note. Bring the ends of the ribbon around to the back of the CS and stick them down.

Center and stamp the “hi” greeting below the ribbon, and stamp the “friend” greeting towards the bottom right of the Crumb Cake CS. Use Early Espresso Classic ink and a Stamp-a-ma-jig if necessary.

Create the ribbon flower with the ribbon leaf as directed in the free video tutorial (see intro paragraph) and stick it to the left side of the ribbon with a liquid glue (I used Fabritac).

Ink the chipboard letters with Pumpkin Pie Craft ink, sprinkle on Heat and Stick powder and heat with a heat tool. Sprinkle on orange glitter and then heat once again to set. Stick the letters directly over the ribbon, to the right of the “hi” greeting, with mini glue dots.

Add some orange peel-and stick rhinestone brads to either side of the “friend” greeting. You’re done!

I hope you enjoyed today’s card

The color combination for today’s card actually came off of Stampin’ Up!’s new Color Coach, and it’s definitely not a color combo I would naturally have thought to choose. The colors used are Pink Pirouette, Wild Wasabi and Chocolate Chip. Not that there is anything unusual about pairing green and pink, it’s just that Wild Wasabi is not usually one of my go-to-greens, but toned down with a bit of Whisper White Craft ink…..I really like it!

Here’s how I made this card:

Cut a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of Pink Pirouette CS and fold it in half with a bone folder to create a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card.

Cut a 3″ x 5 1/2″ piece of Wild Wasabi CS and dry emboss it with the Elegant Lines embossing folder and the Big Shot.

Drag a Whisper White Craft ink pad across the Wild Wasabi CS until you get the desired coverage. Set aside to dry.

Stamp your greeting in Early Espresso Classic ink in the bottom left corner of a 1 3/4″ x 3″ piece of Whisper White CS.

Stick the stamped Whisper White CS piece to the bottom of the embossed Wild Wasabi CS piece.

Center and stick the Wild Wasabi / Whisper White CS piece to a 3 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Early Espresso CS.

Stick the piece from step 6 onto the Pink Pirouette card front, about 1/4″ away from the right edge.

Stamp the large flower outline from the Flower Fancy stamp set onto a scrap of Pink Pirouette CS in bAsic Black Classic ink.

Stick 4 small and 2 medium clear rhinestones to the center of the flower.

Take a 10″ piece of Early Espresso taffeta ribbon and tie it in a bow. Stick it to the left of the flower, with mini glue dots, so that it covers the remainder of the seam between the Wild Wasabi and Whisper White CS. You’re done!

Today’s card is a fun, bright and cheerful card that I made using Stampin’ Up!’s new Cottage Garden stamp set and Sunny Garden DP. Because the DP was already so patterned, I opted to only use the greeting from the Sunny Garden stamp set, rather than any of the images. There just didn’t seem to be room on the card for them. I also used a very easy but effective background inking technique to try and mute the brightness of the Peach Parfait CS which I had texured with my Big Shot and Square Lattice embossing folder.

Here’s how I made the card:

Take a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of Whisper White CS and fold it in half using your bone folder to create your card base.

Cut a 4″ x 5 3/8″ piece of Peach Parfait CS and run it through your Big Shot using the Square Lattice embossing folder. The embossing with this particular folder will cause the CS to shrink so that it should now measure approx 4″ x 5 1/4″. If it’s not quite there, then trim it so that it measures 4″ x 5 1/4″.

Take a Whisper White Craft ink pad and drag it across the embossed Peach Parfait CS. You want the coverage to be kind of patchy. Let dry.

Sponge the edges of the inked Peach Parfait CS with Poppy Parade Classic ink and a stamping sponge.

Center and stick a 1 1/2″ x 4 1/8″ strip of Poppy Parade patterned DP (from the Sunny Garden DP collection) along the top edge of a 3″ x 4 1/4″ piece of Poppy Parade CS.

Center and stick a 1 1/2″ x 4 1/8″ strip of the floral patterned DP along the bottom edge of the 3″ x 4 1/4″ piece of Poppy Parade CS.

Lay a 5 1/4″ piece of Poppy Parade ribbon across the seam of the DP. Bring the ends of the ribbon around to the back of the DP and stick them down using SNAIL adhesive.

Center and stick the matted DP piece to the card front.

Stamp the greeting from the Cottage Garden stamp set in Basic Black Classic ink onto a scrap of Whisper White CS. Punch it out with the wide oval punch.

Sponge around the edge of the greeting using a sponge dauber and Poppy Parade Classic ink.

Stick the greeting over the ribbon, on the matted DP piece, towards the right edge, with a couple of Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Thread three coordinating buttons with white embroidery floss and stick them to the card front as shown in the picture above, with mini glue dots. You’re done!
