Candy Cane Greetings
Posted on: Monday, November 29th, 2010I hope all my American friends had a wonderful Thanksgiving (I know you celebrated last week – but we forgot to make mention of it). Today I wanted to share with you a super graphically simple card I created using the Candy Cane Christmas Specialty DP. Here’s how I made the card:
-
Cut a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of Real Red CS, and fold it in half with a bone folder to create a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card. Set it aside for a moment.
-
Cut a 1 1/4″ x 4″ piece of Whisper White CS and stamp the greeting in Basic Black Classic ink.
-
Take a 2″ x 4″ strip of Real Red CS and create a scalloped border using Stampin’ Up!’s slit punch – please note that Stampin’ Up! retired this in the last catalogue, but I still use it because they don’t have a border punch with a bigger scallop like this. If you don’t have the slit punch, you could punch out 1/2″ or 3/4″ circles out of Real Red CS and then stick them to the back of the Whisper White CS so that about 1/2 the circle hangs below the bottom edge. This is a faux scalloped border.
-
Stick the Whisper White CS strip to the scalloped border piece sot hat about 3/8″ of the border hangs below the bottom edge of the Whisper White CS.
-
Stick the Whisper White CS to 1″ x 4″ piece of Real Red CS, so that the Real Red CS strip shows about 1/8″ above the TOP edge of the Whisper White CS.
-
Place a medium clear rhinestone brad at the center of each scallop (from Stampin’ Up!’s basic rhinestone collection).
-
Take a 1″ piece of Real Red Satin ribbon and fold it in half. Hold the fold in place with a mini glue dot. Repeat with a 1″ piece of 1/4″ Real Red grosgrain ribbon. Stick the two pieces of ribbon to the back left of the greeting as shown in the main picture above, using 2 mini glue dots.
-
Thread two buttons with Blusing Bride CS and stick them as shown with a mini glue dot for each. Please note that the buttons are not from Stampin’ Up! – they are from my own stash.
-
Stick the greeting to a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Candy Cane DP with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I positioned it about 1 1/4″ down from the top edge.
-
Center and stick the Candy Cane DP piece to the Real Red card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals. You’re done!
I hope you enjoyed today’s card.

Hey andrea,
Can you tell me where you bought the buttons? I love the color and how it coordinates. I tried making my own with blushing bride cardstock and the clear buttons, and it looks ok, but it’s a lot of work!
Thanks in advance,
barb

Your ribbon and button embellishments really accent the candy-cane-striped DSP. The rhinestones also add to your scalloped border. Love this card!
