Happy Monday everyone! Welcome to another edition of Art Journal Express – a free weekly video tutorial series posted each Monday where I show you how I created one of my art journal pages from start to finish. Each and every Art Journal Express video tutorial is in “fast forward” mode and then narrated so that you can see each and every step and hear my thoughts behind my process without having to sit through a loooong video. Today is officially my two month mark since I started this series. I’ve really been enjoying filming and sharing my process with you all and hope that you have found it inspiring.
Today’s art journal page is about faith – my own faith in my dreams. One of the Scriptures in the Bible that I turn to over and over again is the one that says “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11). While I know this and believe in this intellectually, I struggle with it practically. So often when I feel as though my heart is leading me in a certain way, I start to doubt, and I question, and I hesitate and procrastinate….Sometimes I wonder how many good things I’ve never experienced simply because I haven’t had the faith to take the first few steps.
That’s why my art journal page for today is called “Have Faith” – it’s an encouragement to myself to trust my intuition or spirit (symbolized by the hearts) and trust in God’s leading (I believe he speaks to us in our hearts and spirits)…to stop questioning so much….and to take that first step.
The journal that I’m working in is my Dylusions journal which you can see pictured below – and it’s the large Dylusions journal. This is the journal I’ve used in every one of my Art Journal Express Video tutorials – and this is my current go-to journal or what I call my “working” journal.
Below is a photo of the supplies I used for this page. This year and going into 2014, my challenge to myself is to stop simply collecting and hoarding supplies and start actually using them – whether it’s in my paper crafting or in my mixed media work. So in today’s page I pulled out my microbeads – something I purchased about a year, year and half ago and have never used.
Here are the exact supplies I used for this page: Gesso, (Golden); Matte Gel Medium, Gloss Super Heavy Gel (Liquitex); palette knife (Curry’s); Squeeze Orange, Bubblegum Pink, Cherry Pie Dylusions Spray Ink (Ranger); Jet Black Archival Ink (Ranger);Bombay Black India Ink (Dr. Ph Martin); Fire Opal, Tourmaline, Garnet Microbeads (Martha Stewart); Blackberry Mini Alphabet Stickers (MLS); She Print stamp (Christy Tomlinson/Unity); Permaball Pilot Pen (purchased at Scarlet Lime store).
Here’s the video tutorial on how I made this page:
Here’s a close up of the page.
And here’s what the two page “spread” looks like in my art journal. My preference has become to use the right page for my art journaling because I know that the pages are flat underneath as they are still untouched so anything I stamp will stamp pretty clear. The other side of the 2 page “spread” – typically the left page – I use to list the supplies I used and for any directions/notes I want to remember about my page or the creative process or the supplies.
I hope you enjoyed today’s video tutorial. If you haven’t already, please be sure to subscribe to the new You Tube Channel I’ve created specifically for the Art of Simple blog.
