Makeover Monday: Hugs and Kisses by Soph

Ok, so you are probably used to Makeover  Monday being brought to you by Andrea, but she is on a field trip with her kids to Niagra Falls.  So I am stepping into her day today to bring you my Makeover Monday project to do.  Now this is not normally my thing.  The reason is not that I don’t love other cards, its just that a) it takes me forever to find the one that I want to do, and also that this works better with Angie’s style then mine.  You see I can take any card with beautifully colored images and just put the same layout with different papers and image and it will be fine!  But that is not the point of the day, the point of course is to make it with our stuff, and its more meaningful to do that with this type of card that relies on elements rather than a main focal image.  So after an hour and a half of looking, I decided to do this one HERE .  It’s from the same blog that Ange went to last week.  The cards there were gorgeous and unique, tried one of the rumpled flower ones, but I think I need to work on the flower a little more before showing, otherwise you might mistake it for a crumpled bit of fabric which I stuck to cardboard.

Ok so anyways, I have a HUGE problem…………….I mean like Massive!!  I am in desperate need of HELP!!   My catalogue arrived today………….and well……………..I don’t know how to break it to those who have not yet seen it.   I am DEAD!!!!!  Ok, so how to explain this….. I have a catalogue quirk.  I color code things with highlighter.  Yellow is first order, pink is second order, orange is third order, and green is fourth order.  Pretty self explanitory.  The problem is the imbalance.  Yellow is far outweighing all other colours.  And then there is the problem when you try to over-colour other colours with yellow because you realize you made a terrible mistake in designating something for 2nd order instead of first.  And then there are the pen jots.  Eventually my catalogue is a disgrace and code which only I can dicipher.  Well let me tell you it is going to be damaging.  I am not sure…………… would my husband notice if his large screen TV dissapeared  to fund it?  I mean, is TV really even good for you?  I would probably end up doing him a favour, saving  him long hours in front of the TV playing Xbox…….. ok maybe not. *sigh*  Anyhoo, the catalogue is wonderful!

Ok, lastly, this card is easy to make!  You take 3/4″ strips of CS and sew it to a Whisper White card front.  I suggest adding Dotto to the end so that they stay in place as you sew.  I also suggest not listening to dance music as you sew and zooming through your stitches so that you don’t end up with jumps ( as I did in second strip down from the top).  Once that is done, you will Take some Chipboard letters and cover with Whisper White Craft ink, emboss with Iridescent Ice embossing pwd.  and then stick it on with Tombow multi-purpose adhesive.  Last stick to pearls from your Pretties kit on the corner using you glue dots.  You are done!  Colours are:  Pink Pirouette, Pretty in PInk, Regal Rose, Melon Mambo, Rose Red.

Hope you have a fantastic day

Thursday Trend Watch: In the Clouds

Posted on: Thursday, June 10th, 2010

I’d have to say that one of my favorite current trends is that of featuring clouds.  Although you’ve probably seen Soph incorporate a sponged cloud background into many of her projects, this was actually my first time trying it out.  If you’ve looked through paper crafting magazines, blogs or even some of the latest paper crafting products to hit the market, you’re sure to have seen clouds in various forms.  Some more defined, others less defined.

In today’s project I decided to create a background with very defined clouds.  Here’s how I made my card:

  1. Create some cloud templates.  To do this I took a Sharpie marker and drew freehand some clouds onto a transparency sheet (also known as acetate or window sheets). I do not use my good Stampin’ Up! window sheets for this, I just use the cheap stuff you can buy from the office supply store.
  2. Temporarily stuck the clouds to a 3 3/4″ x 5″ piece of Whisper White CS using Dotto adhesive.
  3. Sponge all around the clouds using Baja Breeze Classic ink and a wedge of Stamping Sponge.  I sponged from the outside edge of the card – starting off the paper and working inwards – sponging in a circular motion.
  4. Carefully remove the acetate clouds and then get rid of any remaining adhesive using an adhesive eraser.
  5. Stamp the balloon from the Crazy for Cupcakes stamp set onto some scraps of DP from the Happy B-day Simply Scrappin’ Kit, as well as from Real Red CS, using Basic Black Classic ink.  Cut them out with paper snips.
  6. Using a stamp-a-ma-jig and Basic Black Classic ink, stamp three balloons onto the cloud background. Stick the cut out balloons over top of the stamped ballons with a Stampin’ Dimensional.
  7. Add some glitter to the balloons using a 2-way glue pen if desired.
  8. Stamp the greeting from the On Your Birthday stamp set in the bottom left corner of the cloud background piece using Basic Black Classic ink.
  9. Center and stick the cloud background piece onto a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Real Red CS.
  10. Center and stick the Real Red CS to the Baja Breeze card front (created by folding a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of Baja Breeze CS in half with a bone folder).  You’re done!

I hope you enjoyed today’s project.  If you’re a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, be sure to hop on over to my blog on Demo to Demo for some quick tips on using this trend in your business.

Wow Wednesday Slump

Posted on: Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

Ok, its not than that I think that this card is a slump……it’s that I feel in a slump.  I am suffering from what one might call ”New Catalogue Slump”!  It is when the multitude of stamps that one owns fails to provide the proper inspiration or satisfaction!  And here is the super sad part, I have lots of sets, all beautiful, some rarely (ok some have not been inked *gasp*), and here I am pining to see new sets, smell new catalogue smells, feel that crisp beautiful book beneath my fingertips.

How can this condition be cured?  Well perhaps by backing the mailman into a dark corner, and shaking my catalogue out of him.  I have a theory that they are withholding it for their own viewing pleasure.  Every day I check my mailbox, and every day it is empty……I ask you can it be slow….or could some more devious plot be at work?

Well ok, maybe my conspiracy theory is a little exagerated, but maybe not!  You must be the judge of that!  So in the meantime I did a rather simple card which concentrated on watercolouring.  I find colouring very relaxing, and often colour images while I think of ideas.  So I took this older retired set called Woodland Cottage and watercoloured it with my actual watercolour pan paints.  I coloured the cottage and the arbour.  The arbour was cut out and popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  I find that with this kind of image and colouring, you don’t want to really take away from it by adding to much embellishment, so I made it into a shadow box by cutting a frame with a 5/8″ wide border.  The card is 5″ x 5″, and the frame is popped up with dimensionals all around.  The arbour which is popped is under the frame, not over, and a bit of glitter was added with some Crystal Effect.
Thanks so much and have a wonderful day!
