Top Note Tag Box Tutorial

Because this tutorial was created at a later time than the blog post itself, I decided it would be easiest to create it as it’s own separate page – this lent itself better to adding in afterwards.  This tutorial is going to show you how to make this custom-designed Top Note Tag Box. The box was designed to hold four of the Top Note Tags shown above.

Supplies:

Stamps: Holidays & Wishes, Winter Post
Ink: Chocolate Chip
Paper: Riding Hood Red, Very Vanilla, Old Olive, Chocolate Chip CS 8 1/2" x 11", Riding Hood Red DP.
Accessories: Big Shot, Top Note Die, Birds with Leaves and Flowers Die, Rope Twine, 1/8" handheld circle punch, 1 3/4" circle punch, double circle punch (optional), Crop-a-Dile, Jumbo Eyelets, bone folder, personal paper trimmer with scoring blade, bone folder, paper snips, sticky strip, Tombow Multi-Purpose adhesive, Riding Hood Red Taffeta Ribbon, 2-way glue pen, Dazzling Diamonds Glitter

Dimensions:

Riding Hood Red CS for box base : 8" x 11"
Riding Hood Red for box lid: 4" x 4 1/8"
Riding Hood Red DP for lining the box: 3 7/8" x 8"
Riding Hood Red Taffeta ribbon: 16"

Step-by-Step directions for making box:

Step 1:  Take your 8" x 11" piece of Riding Hood Red CS, score, fold and cut as directed by the template.  Place two strips of sticky strip along the outer large flap and on the two small flaps.

Step 2: Take your 1 3/4" circle punch and then center &  punch a half circle out of the flap indicated in the template.

 Step 3: Remove the red backing from the sticky strip on the small flaps and stick them to the inside of the middle flap.

Step 4: Fold the large side flaps shown in the Step 3 picture inwards, remove the backing from the sticky strip and attach to the inside back piece.

Step 5: Take your 4" x 4 1/8" piece of Riding Hood Red CS.  Score and fold at 1" and 2 1/8".  Place two strips of sticky strip along the 1" wide flap.  Remove the backing from the sticky strip and attach to the top back of the box (you want to align the 1" score line with the top back edge of the box).

Step 6: Take your 37/8" x 8" piece of DP.  Score at 2" and at 3 1/16".  Trim a small rectangle from each bottom corner as shown in the picture below.  Your rectangle should be about 1/4" wide and 1" long.  Trimming the bottom corners in this way will keep the edges of the DP from catching on the small flaps on the inside bottom of the box.

Step 7:  Place a bit of double sided adhesive on the inside back of the box.  Slide the DP into the box as shown in the picture below.

Step 8: Stick the top portion of the DP to the top flap of the box using Tombow Multi-Purpose Adhesive.

Step 9: Using your double circle punch (or alternately your 1/8" handheld circle punch), punch two holes in the top flap.  Hold the flap closed, take a pencil and make a small pencil mark through the center of each hole to the box front below.

Step 10: Using a 1/8" handheld circle punch, punch two small holes over the pencil marks you made in Step 9.  Take a 16" piece of ribbon, thread both ends up through the holes.

Step 11: Decorate the front of the box as desired.  Take the two ribbon ends from Step 10 and thread them through the holes on the flap and tie shut in a bow.  You’re finished!  I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.
