Holiday Blitz Day 17: Top Note Tags & Tag Box Tutorial…another winner…& a new blog give-away!
Posted on: Monday, December 8th, 2008
Gift-giving during the holiday season can be a real challenge, especially if your gift list is long. My typical “to shop for” list of just my family members has 30 people on it. That doesn’t include teachers, friends and of course my UPS man (*lol*). That’s why I’m always on the lookout for unique gift ideas that don’t cost a fortune. Now finding things in a retail store that fit that bill is NOT easy, that’s why I’m so thankful that rubber stamping and paper crafting is my business. I can make unique gifts that are affordable, yet are really “from the heart”. Today’s project makes a perfect gift when you are looking to give someone a “little something” to show them that you are thinking of them.
I used my Big Shot Top Note die and the Bird with Leaves & Flowers die to create four tags. The layout of the four tags is identical, I just used different patterns from the Riding Hood Red Prints series paper and two different colors for the base of the tags.

Now you can’t just give someone tags on their own. If you want to make it into a gift then you need a cute little box to package them in, right? Since designing templates is my passion, of course I just HAD to create a template for a Top Note Tag Box!
I’ve put together a Step-by-Step tutorial with a downloadable template HERE.

*******************************************
Okay, and now onto today’s winner. Drumroll please……the winner of the Holiday Blitz Day 16 blog give-away is Judi Carpenter! Congratulations! In order to draw my winners I use the website www.random.org so that the winner is randomly drawn. Judi, please email me at andrea@sunnystampin.com in order to claim your prize!
Judi will receive the PDF tutorial for this Snowman Window Box. You can use it as shown with a couple of test tubes holding goodies inside (I bought the Martha Stewart test tubes) OR, you could omit the test tube holder portion, cover the windows with acetate and fill them the box with treats. The tutorial includes supplies, dimensions and step-by-step photos with directions. Judi is the last winner of this window box tutorial.
Today I start a new give-away!
Today and for the next week or so, I’ll be drawing for the pdf tutorial for this ornament-shaped gift box.
As with all the templates I feature, this project is based on a custom-designed template I created to simulate the look of a Christmas Tree Ornament. The dimensions of the box are 6″ wide, 5″ high and 2″ deep. It holds a LOT of treats! The tutorial will include a supply list, dimensions, template and over 30 photos with step-by-step directions.
I had a lot of people ask me if I would sell this tutotrial because they didn’t want to wait *lol* so I put it into my store. If you’re interested in purchasing it, it’s $12.95 and you can get it from here: http://www.sunnystampinstore.com/. I am not releasing a class planner version of this. If you are a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, you can use it in a class, all I ask is that you please not re-sell the tutorial or post the directions/dimensions on your blog or website.
Today’s question: What is your favourite holiday dessert? My favourite dessert is a Hungarian dessert that my grandmother makes only during the Christmas season. The closest translation I can think of is “Bird’s Milk”. I think it’s the same thing as a dessert called Floating Islands. It’s a creamy custard-type sauce that is similar to egg nog (but better) with floating “islands” made out of a soft meringue.

December 8th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
My favorite holiday dessert is a fave more for the tradition than for the actual taste. It’s a Polish creation that I don’t know how to spell, but the English translation is “angel wings”. It’s a nice light, slightly crunchy pastry covered in powdered sugar, and we have it every year as part of our traditional Polish Christmas Eve Dinner. My parents buy theirs in Hamtramck (Michigan), and when we lived in New Hampshire we bought ours at the Bartlett Street Superette in Manchester. Yum!
December 8th, 2008 at 10:25 pm

That is such an elegant gift set!
My favorite holiday dessert is almond rocha. My family only makes it during the holidays so it is a very special treat. Since I live far away from my family, and my husband’s family aren’t big fans of almond rocha, I get to eat most of it myself!
Just have to diet after I eat it all, LOL

I only drink this at Christmas time. I am not an alchohol drinker, but on very rare occasions I will add a bit of Kahlua. The idea for me is to enjoy it, not make myself sick! Ha! Thanks for sharing your creativity!
December 8th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
Cute tags! My top note die is on back order and I can’t wait for it to arrive.
One of my favorite desserts is blueberry cheesecake. We make it with a buttery flaky crust and a lighter filling, so it’s not too heavy after a large holiday meal. If you ever want a huge, multi-cultural feast, just visit our house for the holidays. People are blown away. . .
December 8th, 2008 at 11:27 pm

December 8th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
I think my all-time favorite holiday dessert would have to be springerle cookies. They are little anise-flavored cookies made by rolling out dough and pressing it with either a mold or a special rolling pin that is carved with little birds and things (reminds me of some of our dies). These cookies take two days to make, so I don’t make them often. My sister loves them, too, so it is fun to make them and think about how excited she will be to see them in her Christmas box! She lives far away from me, so I like to send her special things.
I love these tags, too! I don’t know how you continue to come up with all these clever things, Andrea! You two gals are truly amazing. Thanks so much.

I love making spritz cookies for the holidays but my favorite is a toss up between the coconut macaroons my Oma use to make and the German fudge with wafers layered in between that my mom makes. I don’t really have a favorite holiday dessert. We typically just have cookies and things like that. And it seems that every occasion that my family gets together, one of us makes a Hot Milk Sponge cake since it’s my Dad’s favorite. I do think a trifle looks pretty for the holiday’s though.
Love this tutorial! You never cease to amaze me girl!

December 9th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
We don’t have a “standard” dessert at my family gathering, so I seem to like whatever we have! The last few years we’ve had Cherry Berry Clouds, brownie cupcakes, and Pecan pie was fabulous this Thanksgiving! Thanks for a chance to win – how cute!
December 9th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
One of my favorites would be spritz cookies. My Grandmother would make them every Christmas, and now I love to make them with my own kids!
December 9th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
I love lots of Christmas goodies, but I think my favourite is Nanaimo bars. The coconut, walnut and chocolate base, with a yummy custard filling and melted chocolate chips on top make my mouth water! It’s too bad that you can buy it at Costco for cheaper than you can make it at home.. although making it at home is great fun too.
I love your notes and box that goes with it… very lovely.
December 9th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
DANG, Andrea, you never cease to amaze me. I LOVE your templates – you make them WOW but easy-to-follow! So please enter me.

December 9th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
Darling box and darling tag cards! Fun idea!! But then again, that’s why I come here, because your ideas are AWESOME!!!!
Because I only get them at the holidays, I’m going to say my sister-in-law’s bratzels. I’ve looked on the internet for the spelling of these and a recipe and can’t find it, but that is what she calls them. They’re a type of Swedish cookie that’s made on a decorative iron and then tried over a rod so that they’re curved. They’re a heavy cookie with lots of cream. Oh, they are so yummy. She knows how much I love them, so I get my very own batch of ‘em every year!! LOL
December 9th, 2008 at 2:08 pm

my favorite holiday dessert is my Craisen Bark. I make it with a layer of milk chocolate and then a layer of white chocolate, both with craisens mixed into it. Spread it on a cookie sheet and then break it apart when it hardens.

My favorite dessert at Christmas is the chocolate mint pie I buy from a store. Its the best – like a french silk pie, but it has Andes candies in it. Only my sister, me and my brother-in-law eat it. Yum!

There are so many desserts that I love, but my all-time favorite was my grandmother’s dried apple stack cake. I have tried to duplicate it, but something is missing…I guess it is the love that she put in the cake!

Andrea–I thoroughly enjoy your projects and you tutorials. Thank you.
Not sure I have a favorite Christmas dessert.
I like everything and especially I like to taste new things. Wish some of the ladies would submit the recipes mentioned in the comments–I tried to find on the internet– names of desserts with which I am not familiar. Found “lefse” but not with butter and sugar. That was disapointing.
BUT-Your website never is- Thanks for sharing
