Holiday Blitz Day 13: Top Note Genie Bag & Card-in-1 Tutorial….and another winner!

Posted on: Monday, December 1st, 2008

Welcome to Holiday Blitz Day 13!  For today’s project I adapted a Top Note Genie Bag to be a Genie Bag and a card in one and I’m going to show you how to make it with a step-by-step tutorial! It’s the perfect way to package up a little treat and include a little note at the same time.  You can see a side view of the Genie Bag below:

In the picture below you can see the "card" portion of the genie bag.

Stamps: Winter Post, Thank You Kindly, Lovely as a Tree
Paper: Riding Hood Red CS, Very Vanilla CS
Ink:  Chocolate Chip, Riding Hood Red, Close to Cocoa Classic ink
Accessories: small kraft treat bags, Top Note die, Big Shot, Stamp-a-Ma-Jig, stampin’ sponge, word window punch, candy cane ribbon, personal paper trimmer with scoring blade.

Click on the READ MORE link below for the Step-by-Step tutorial with pics and the winner of yesterday’s Holiday Blitz draw!

Okay, let’s get started:

Step 1: You’re going to need to cut two Top Note die cut shapes out of Riding Hood Red CS and one out of Very Vanilla.

Step 2: Center the Very Vanilla Top Note onto the Riding Hood Red (but DO NOT STICK IT DOWN) and hold in place while you punch out a handle using the word window punch.

Step 3: Now take your Very Vanilla Top Note and score it about 1/4" below the bottom of the word window "handle"

Step 4: Now it’s time to stamp on your Very Vanilla Top Note. Trim around the edge of the Top Note (along the dotted line) so that it will be able to mat onto the red.  I started by stamping the couple from Winter Post.  I then created a mask with a Post-It Note and covered the couple. Once the couple was covered with the mask I stamped the trees from Lovely as a Tree.  Lastly I sponged all the edges.  Add a bit of glitter if desired. Once your vanilla CS piece is stamped you can then fold along the score line. Set aside.

Step 5: Take one of your Riding Hood Red Top Notes and stamp a snowflake in Riding Hood Red and then your greeting in Chocolate Chip ink.

Step 6: You’re now going to need a small kraft treat bag.  (same style as the paper lunch bags but a lot smaller.  I got mine at a paper supply store). I cut the bag so that it was only 2 1/2" tall. Place sticky strip on the left and right sides.

Step 7: Flip the Riding Hood Red piece you stamped over so that you are looking at the back of it.  Remove the red backing from the sticky strip on the kraft bag and stick down to the Top Note die. You’ll notice that I aligned it along the bottom edge of the die without it overhanging the top note. To attach the back Top Note, you’ll need to put sticky strip on either side of the remaining side of the kraft bag, remove the backing and then attach the back Top Note.

Step 8: Once you have both the front and back Top Note dies attached to your bag, you are now going to attach the stamped vanilla piece.  Place 2-way glue on the TOP portion of the vanilla CS piece (i.e. only ABOVE the score line).

Step 9: Stick your vanilla CS piece to the front red Top Note and then tie a Candy Cane ribbon through the handles to hold closed.  You’re done!

My wish would be that my mom feel peace and happiness this Christmas. My dad passed away in March so this will be her first Christmas without him. I wish I could be there (or she could be here with our kids getting her attention), but I’m glad my brother lives near her and she’ll spend the day with his family (kids!).

2

My wish would be to have a cure for Alzheimer’s. We’ve had to place my Mom in a Nursing Home this past week because of this ‘mean’ disease that robs people of their dignity and personality, and their families of their loved ones.

3

World peace and paid-off credit card debt! Wouldn’t we all be more civilized if we didn’t have that hanging over our heads?!!!

4

My wish would be for everyone in the world to act with honesty, integrity and faith.

5

For a great Christmas for my Grandfather. His lady friend recently passed away and he doesn’t know what to be doing with himself. He is completly lost without her.

6

My wish is that my husband and I have a safe trip to Atlanta to visit my daughter and a safe return trip. I also wish for Peace.
Sharon Caillier

7

If I could have one wish this Christmas it would be to bless an impoverished family with a wonderful meal and presents for their famiy and an impoverished spirit to be filled with peace.

8

Too many people have lost loved ones due to cancer, my wish would be to someday soon find a cure!

9

That our country’s economic woes would be ironed out. So many people are having little or no Christmas, losing their houses and are in complete financial devastation because of the mess our country is in. As a result many families won’t have the opportunity to be together this holiday season.

10

On a personal level, I’d love to not have any debt – no credit cards to pay on, no house payment, no car payment – that would be fabulous! Less self-centered would be to have someone near and dear to me’s hubby become free from cancer.

11

My wish would be for everyone to take a moment and remember what the season is really about. And, for those folks that are fortunate enough to be around their family and friends for the holiday – don’t take them for granted, because our time on this earth is not guaranteed.

12

I have a lot of things that I want and would wish for, but I think my biggest Christmas wish would be for those who don’t have a relationship with God to realize their need of Him. How much happier our world would be!!!

Thanks Andrea for these awesome tutorials – you are certainly making up for lost time and every tutorial is fabulous!

13

My wish is that everyone could be with the ones they love…a roof over their heads, a warm fire and a good meal.

14

My wish would be a better economy and and less war. Why can’t people just get along.
Sherry Conrad

15

To spend Christmas with my Dad and siblings. The last time we were all together was 5 years ago when my Mom passed. My DH and children were not with me then. It would be wonderful to spend Christmas all together on a happy note.

16

That my husband would feel better. He has been sick for over a month and we don’t know why. He can hardly go to work and I am worried about his job. Pray for him. Mary

17

For those far from God this holiday season to seek forgiveness and grace.

18

To be a mom. Just found out today that the latest round of infertility treatments didn’t work, and we won’t get another chance until after Christmas.

19

This is such a selfish wish that I am embarassed to wish for it after reading all the fantastic wishes that have been posted. But I wish for my unemployed husband to find a job. He has never in all his 60 years not worked and this is very difficult for him. I pray for him to find a job. Thanks.
Cheryl Sims

20

i love the genie bag. very pretty

21

I think that I would wish for the spirit of love to be instilled in each heart. When we love each other irritations, upsets, hard-feelings melt away and we exist peacefully together. We stop trying to force our will on others, we start caring what happens to the person we pass on the street, the storekeeper who checks us out at the grocery store, our neighbours, our community. Wouldn’t this world be a better place?

22

If I could have one wish it would be an answer on what is wrong with my heart (not to spend another day with chest pain, wondering if this is the big heart Attack)

23

I would wish for the economy to get better. There are so many Americans struggling right now and it would be a blessing not to have to stress over it.

24

What a great project! As for my wish; world peace comes to mind first, then quickly fixing the economy quickly comes to mind. A girl can wish! :D

25

My wish is that now that I have one son in the Army (in basic training) and another getting ready to go in that they are kept safe from harm and are able to be home again for Christmas next year. Luckily this year, they will both be home for CHristmas. On a less personal note, I wish for the economy to improve (althought that will help me too)and jobs to become more readily available for all – Major businesses need to keep the jobs here and stop sending them to other countries to save money and support those here in their own country.

26

Get to spend more time with my parents and my sister and her family.

27

My wish would be for my whole family to celebrate Christmas together, like we did before, while I was growing up. We seemed to have grown apart and have become angry with each other. Not the family holidays like I remember. I wish for those days back, to introduce my boys to our family’s way of celebrating.

28

I love this set! Haven’t seen a bad project with it!
My wish is also for my husband. His business of 40 years is over and with no retirement, it is really taking a toll on the family. Truly I wish for many of us the peace of mind to know that we will make it thru these hard times.

29

For so many things, good health for my family, piece of mind and acceptance of the many challenges of today’s world.

30

If I could have one wish it would be to have my father back. He left us way to soon and I was not able to say goodbye. I miss him dearly.

Love your projects. Hope you sister is feeling better.

Catherine

31

My personal wish: that my daughter gets pregnant. She and her husband are soon going to be too old. She had a miscarriage three years ago. I want her to experience the joys I have known as a mother.

My larger-vision wish: that all people go through the holidays hope, hope for a peaceful world, hope for a healthy economy, and the hope that love gives.

32

My wish is that we would all remember “the reason for the Season” as they say, and not get so wrapped up in all the other “stuff.”

33

Is it fair to wish for calorie free Christmas cookies ;-)

34

My wish for this holiday season is that we stay focused on the true meaning of Christmas and have that message carried throughout the year.

35

I would like to wish for good health, happiness and love to all. That we can learn to share these with one another. This past year my father and sister passed away – while I cannot have them with me this year – I wish that the rest of my family can find peace and solace knowing that they are in a better place. Wishing all a wonderful holiday season.

36

My heartfelt wish is that Peace would reign in our hearts and minds so that Peace would reign in the earth. I know as we keep our mind on the Prince of Peace this Christmas Season, He can keep us in perfect peace.

I’m glad to hear you are looking after yourself Andrea. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Cindy

37

My personal wish would be for a very special person somewhere in another country carrying our baby to take care of herself and the baby she is carrying (so that would be a healthy baby). May she find peace in the decision she is making. Along with that debt free would be great so that I could stay home with the baby I have longed for all my life (40+ years next week).

38

Hope you’re feeling a 100% soon. Our health is so important!

My wish is for my hubbie (who has been unemployed since Aug of 2007)to find a job when he completes school in 8 weeks with his bachelor’s degree.

39

I LOVE all your projects!! This has to be my favorite one yet though!!

As for my wish…a healthy economy so that all those that are stressed about it would be able to focus on God and their families this year.

40

My one wish would be that financially we as a nation will recover quickly and that would lead to a better housing market, more jobs, etc. After 33 years of marriage and now divorced, all of these things are hugely effecting my life. I’d really like to move forward with life but the economy is holding me back.

On a more selfish level, I wish my mother’s Alzheimer’s would miraculously reverse itself and that my father’s prostate cancer would disappear.

41

Just happiness.

42

I would wish for good health.

43

My wish would be to have peace throughout the world.

44

For each of my family members to follow the path God has for their lives.

45

one wish for Christmas? I would love to be debt free!! It wouldn’t change our situation, but at least there would be a bit more money for the kids, and our hobbies.

46

My one Christmas Wish would be world peace & prosperity!!

Jenni

47

Happiness…and to treat each other more kindly.

48

Love this idea Andrea…can’t wait to try it. My one Christmas wish would be to end the fighting and “hatred” that seems prevalent in our world today; to try and understand the differences of the other and as Lisa said before me…to treat each other more kindly.
Karen

49

my wish would be for my family to have a happy and safe holiday!

50

My Christmas wish is for the war to end so my son can come home.

51

Another awesome project Andrea. Take care of yourself and let us know how things are going.

My wish would have to be for world peace and the economy to recover.

52

My wish is that my house would sell!!!

53

My wish is for world peace followed by a cure for all cancers, and then (what? I don’t get 3 wishes???) well… my next wish is for 2009 to be the best ever!
Smiles,
Pam

54

Love

for each other

55

My personal wish is for my entire side of the family (as few as there are) could be together for Christmas under good circumstances.

My idealistic wish is for the atrocious acts of men to cease and for Christ’s love and peace to rule the world.

56

Our wish is that Gran will have a good Christmas as this will be her first Christmas alone and we’ll be all together as a family to enjoy the holidays.
Seasons Greetings everyone.

57

My one wish would be that our soldiers could come home. There are too many families having to celebrate too many holidays without their loved ones.

58

Another awesome project Andrea. If I could have one wish it would be that 2009 would be a better year health wise for myself, my sister & my mother. Hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas!

59

That one is so easy:D I would wish for my sister to get this new job so that she could afford to come home for the holidays. She is all alone in North Carolina…determined to stay and “make it on her own” She is so brave IMO. So, if she knew she was going to get this job she would take the time before starting to come home and visit.

60

My one wish would be for my family and friends that have lost loved ones this year, to help them through this holiday season. It is always so difficult getting through any holiday w/o your partner, or friend of so many years.

Your projects are awesome!

61

That one is easy. My son to come home for Christmas. He has been in Alaska for two years and I haven’t seen him. Other than that maybe a foot of snow.

62

Health for my family

63

I wish only for peace, health & wealth. Ellen A

64

My 2008 wish is “the troops will ALL return safe & sound to their families”. John Lenon’s song “War is Over”–I hope we can soon sing that, with a strong & forceful voice, with meaning! Happy Holidays.

65

I am thankful for people like Andrea who share endlessly with their creativeness. I appreciate all that I have been blessed with including all of us out here in cyberland.

I wish for better health for myself, my parents and friends because without it life can be challenging. I wish for peace in all our hearts and throughout the world. May we all share and comfort others during these challenging times.

66

The one thing I’d wish for–is to pay off all my bills.

67

My wish this Christmas is for children everywhere to feel love because that is the easiest “gift” we can give and it s free!

68

I wish we could all get along. I also wish I had more customers!

69

I just love the Top Note and your genie bag is fabulous. So creative and inspiring. Now this question is a tough one. I would have to say my wish would be helping people find jobs and keeping their jobs and homes. Thanks for a chance.

70

my wish is pretty simple..health and safe travel for my family and yours and that the true spirit of Christmas..giving, fills your hearts.

71

My wish is personal, but i can say i’d love to get things back to the way they used to be…sorry not to share completely! Happy holidays!
Love this bag…it’s absolutely adorable~
:)

72

My wish is for the baby to be healthy and to be able to get a house that we love and can afford.

73

My wish would be that we bring God back into our country and all people start acting like the honest, kind people that he would want us to be. There is entirely too much evil and we need to bring back peace and understanding for our fellow man.

74

Peace without our family……….

75

Opps,….meant to say, Peace withIN our family……

76

On a personal note, I wish that we could pay off our credit cards that accumulated when DH had no job. On a non-personal note, I wish for safety for all those traveling for the holidays and that our military members stay safe wherever they may be.

77

This card is just adorable. Now I wish I had bought the postal stamp set.

Lucinda

78

My wish would be for peace (and forgiveness for whatever they think I’ve done) between my son and his family and me. Ever since he got married 3 years ago, our relationship has steadily gotten worse. Now, they have chosen not to speak to me and it hurts soooo bad. What makes it even worse is I don’t get to share in my only grandchild’s life – he is only 2 and lives far away.

79

My greatest wish is that my children will live with honesty, respect, courage, faith… all those things that we have been teaching to them!

80

My greatest wish would be that my family would be healthy. We’ve had a rough year with being in the hospital for one reason or another.

81

There are things I could wish for myself and my family but I am truly Blessed is so many ways. My wish is for teens who have low self esteem, confidence and are the s of cruelty among other teens. There are times when these teens are victims by circumstances beyond their control. My wish is to help build the confidence of a teen and to show them the love and compassion they need.

82

typing error to my comment above should r lack confidence, and are victims of cruelty

83

My wish this Christmas is that my husband’s business (home construction) does not go under. This has been a really bad year and no end in sight for the country’s financial trouble. I hope and pray for it to get better soon.

84

For me…my wish is always good health. If I have good health, then I can deal with whatever life throws at me. Healthy kids equals happy kids. Healthy hubby means he can go and make the money. For those I love: means they are with me one more day!

85

That’s a hard question since there are a lot of things that I would wish for. I think that I would wish that all my family would be healthy for a long time to come. I also would love to have enough money to not worry about what I needed to buy. I’m not asking for a bunch of frills & expensive things, just some of the things that my family would enjoy. Kristi

86

I’d wish for more love in the hearts of everyone! More love would mean more peace in the world, less selfishness, and everyone caring for each other. We need to get back to what Christmas really means!
Merry Christmas Andrea, keep up the good work.
Wilda

87

My wish is for my kids. I want them to just grow up free of the burdens that I carried. They are off to a good start, (But havent hit their teens yet)

My wish is health and happiness to all. God has blessed me with not a whole lot of wants. But one is STAMPING STAMPING STAMPING. LOL

89

I wish that everyone would have more compassion. If we were more compassionate and thinking of others our eyes would be off ourselves and more on others. This would stop greed, hatred, violence, etc. This one aspect of love and caring could change the world.

90

I LOVE THIS CARD/GIFT BAG!!! Thank you Andrea for all you do for giving us all inspiration.

My Christmas wish is for my family to spend the Christmas Holiday together. Love each other fully. To teach my kids the TRUE meaning of Christmas – Our Lord’s Birthday!

91

I wish for all the troops in Iraq and that area to be safe and return home quickly! I pray daily for these men and women. I know their families would love to have them home for the holidays and I know they’d love to be home too.

92

an end to war…

93

I wish that everyone would have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ – what a world it would be!!

94

My wish would be that our children learn to enjoy the magic of Christmas and what it means to be loved!

95

I wish, for the new year, to find a job I’ll like in Quebec, near my family.

96

My 7 year old son put Christmas into perspective for me this week, he told me the only thing that he wanted for Christmas this year is Joy ( even though he said this I know he still wants some sort of toy). So this year for Christmas I wish that everyone will sit back and take in the wonderful holiday season and remember that it doesn’t matter if you give/get the biggest present, but that you spend time with loved ones and celebrate the “joy” of the season.

97

Andrea and Sophie, you ladies are SOOOOOOO talented. Thanks so much for sharing all the wonderful projects. Your holiday blitz has been inspiring.
My wish this Christmas would be for people everywhere to remember the true meaning of Christmas and to love their neighbors and their families like they should.

98

I wish I had a button. This button would automatically make my house clean and in order! Even a one time use would be appreciated! Barring that I guess I’ll wish for a day with my kids not irritating each other. Maybe the button would be more likely!

(actually my kids aren’t that bad…)

99

My wish would be for people to think more about others than they do themselves. We are so blessed in this country, but everyone wants MORE all the time. I sincerely wish this time of year people would remember what we are celebrating….the birth of Jesus and the glory HE brings to all of us.

100

My wish this year would be for my own children. Me and my hubby have been trying for 5 years. Be thankful for your own little monsters, there are many people who would love to have your challenges.

Oh, and world peace, no more hunger anywhere, more money and everyone to be honest.

Debi

101

My wish is that many would know the true meaning of this season and come to know our Savior!

102

My wish would be happiness for all. If we all just took a second to be kind to others, imagine what a nicer, kinder place this would be for everyone. It only takes a brief second to smile, to say, “Thank You.”

103

I’d totally wish to have my whole family together for the holidays. We live all over the place and I haven’t spent x-mas with my family in over 5 years. In-laws are great but…LOL!

104

A special wish this Christmas for my friend Terry and her family to have peace. Her 19 year old son was just deployed to Afghanistan.

105

I think my Christmas wish would be that this coming year my husband will be able to find a job after he finishes school, and we move to a house that will better fit our family. :)

106

My wish is peace in the world, a better economy for American’s and much better health for my 83 year old mother.

107

my wish would be for people to know the love of Christ this Holiday season

108

My wish this Christmas is that He who is the reason for our holiday would be the heartfelt desire of those He loves so dearly. Thank you for the fun!

109

I wish that everyone would be able to celebrate the true Reason for the season – the Lord Jesus Christ, and that they might know Him.

110

my wish would be for everyone to receive their wishes to come true.

thanks for this opportunity, your stuff is always so wonderful, your website is my treat after a long day at work.
thanks

111

My wish is that the Lord would put his arms around me and a hand across my mouth. I always seem to say the wrong wording to my husband and hurt him unintensionally.

112

My wish is for everyone’s wish to come true.

113

I would love for my exhusband and I to get along for the children…I went through a horrific custody battle and the children really suffered. They are still suffering due to the anger my ex has against me. I wish he really knew that it’s all about the children.

114

peace

115

Thank you both for the great ideas! I am glad you are feeling better, Andrea. Wishing you a speedy full recovery.

My wish is for everyone to live joyously and with peace in their hearts. Every day is a gift from God and we should all be thankful for the daily blessings we receive.

116

I wish for an end to all the crazy turmoil in the world, wars, stock market etc. I know it’s a big wish, but I can barely watch the news these days without getting upset!

117

I love this stamp and card! Please enter me in the drawing.

118

My one wish is really personal. So I will just say that I am really enjoying your blog during this blitz – both all the ideas from you and all the wonderful comments from your blog readers.

119

I am wishing for peace throughout the world and that the economy recovers quickly.

120

I wish that every child receives a gift and warm meal on Christmas

Tamara

121

My Wish: For all to get along! I wish everyone happiness too.

I love your project, it is wonderful, just like you!

122

I wish people would learn to take responsibility for themselves and stop trying to make everyone around them miserable just because their own life is in shambles.

And on a more fun note – And I sure do wish that I’ll be pregnant by Christmas!

124

My wish would be for peace all over the world and for every child to feel loved and safe this Chritmas.

125

What a neat concept! Fun project idea!!

My wish for this Christmas is for it to still be a wonderful Christmas despite our financial situation. I hope that my children can see past the commercial aspects of Christmas and appreciate the real reason we celebrate the holiday.

126

To be able to spend Christmas with extended family.

127

One wish, eh. I pray for peace, and health.

Susan

128

1 wish, peace for the world. Beyond that, the stablization of Iraq and Afghan with appropriate security forces to uphold peace..all so our soliders can come home to their families.

129

all my family together for Christmas

Eddie

130

I wish for good health for my family and for us to be able to spend time together.

Thanks so much for all you do!! :)

131

My Christmas wish would be that my neighbor who has been diagnosed with both brain cancer and bone cancer- actually be around for the holiday. She’s been very sick so I’m hoping she can hang on for a while longer.

132

health for my mom, mother in law and me. we are all dealing with issues right now.

cute project!!!

xox ~ carol.

133

I wish for peace and comfort for all the troops abroad and that they will soon be home with their families.

134

My wish is to be able to slow down and do lots of fun things with my kids and really enjoy the season.
Love all the projects so far!
Carla

135

Great project Andrea. My wish would be for my mom to get some pain relief. She’s got issues with her hip and is becoming more and more incapacipated.

136

My wish would be for peace for the world and that all would come to know the Lord as their Savior on His birthday, and improved health for me, my family and all the world. Merry Christmas to all.

137

My wish would be that our troops come home for good. I have many friends who are there now defending our country and would love to see them again. I’m sure their family would too.

I also hope that you get better soon! :D

138

I love the different shape the top note gives cards! I would wish for peace that lasts forever… so noone would ever have to fight again.

139

Love the bag – I was wondering how to make those! My wish would be to be with my husband again soon.

140

My wish is to just spend some quality time with my family!

141

There are so many wishes….that those facing financial and other difficulties would turn to the One who can help.

Just imagine a world without disease or hunger.

But I have so much to be thankful for, and praise God for His working in my life.

142

Definitely peace on earth…but on a smaller scale, I wish that I would see the ‘pay it forward’ philosophy in action more…for my friends and family that are going thru difficult times-that they would remember to lean on Him.

143

I wish that my mom’s memory would return to normal. I know it won’t happen, but that is one of my heart’s desires. On a less personal level, I wish for everyone to have a peaceful holiday season.
Melisa

144

My wish would be for all the prior listed wishes to come true; for those who posted and for everyone in the world. Peace, health and love.

145

Hi Andrea,

Thanks for a great project idea. I CASE’d this one last week for a Christmas “White Elephant” swap at my demo group meeting. Here’s my version:
