Holiday Blitz Day 8: Ornament Tag Tutorial…another winner…and a new give-away!

Posted on: Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Are you having as much fun with this Holiday Blitz as I am?  I am just loving being able to spend time in my stamp room creating.  Of course the danger is now that it’s really hard to actually leave my stamp room *lol*!. I can’t believe we’re halfway through the Blitz already! For today’s project I’m going to share with you some cute ornament shaped tags I made. I made a matched set of four, which you can see below. I packaged them up in a medium cello bag, topped it with a Big Shot Top Note, tied the candy cane ribbon around it and stamped a tag using my curly lable punch set.

My inspiration for these ornament tags came from the card you see on the left.  This was a card made by Erica Toet – one of my Stampin’ Up! sidelines for one of the Christmas Card Swaps at our Demonstrator Stampfest weekend.  When I saw her super-cute ornament on the card I immediately thought of the Big Shot and my poor unused scallop circle die that has been sitting in my drawer since August – and I just KNEW I had to try make some ornament tags – i.e. tags that look like ornaments.

I’ve put together a quick tutorial for you below to show you how I made my ornament tags.

Step 1:  Cut as many 4" x 8 1/2" pieces of CS as you want to make tags.  I cut two out of Kiwi Kiss CS and two out of Riding Hood Red CS.  Score them at 4 1/4", and fold along the score line using your bone folder.

Step 2: To create the actual scalloped "ornament" you’re going to need the Sizzix Scallop Circle #2 Bigz die ( you can see it in the picture below).

Step 3: Take your folded CS and lay it  – with the fold oriented at the top – over your scalloped circle die as shown in the picture below.  You can see two complete scallops and two half scallops showing above the fold.

Step 4: Create the following "sandwich":  first you’ll need a cutting pad, your scallop die, the folded CS and then another cutting pad.  Slowly roll it through your Big Shot.

Step 5: Cut as many scalloped ornament tags as desired.

Step 6: Decorate the front of your ornament as desired.  I stamped the cardinal from "A Cardinal Christmas" stamp set onto a circle of Very Vanilla CS, colored it in, and mounted it onto a circle of Brushed Gold CS.  I then mounted the whole thing to my "ornament" front.  To color mine in I used a blender pen and the following colors: Kiwi Kiss, Riding Hood Red, Bravo Burgundy, Close to Cocoa & Tangerine Tango Classic inks.

Step 7: Punch a tab out of Brushed Gold CS using your tab punch.  Attach only the bottom curved edge of the tab to your "ornament" FRONT.

Step 8: Using your Crop-a-Dile punch a hole for your eyelet on your tab. Repeat on the other side.

Step 9: Set a gold eyelet in each hole.  As you see from the picture below, only half of your tab is attached to the ornament – and it is attached to the FRONT only.

Step 10: Flip your ornament tag over.  Take a 4" piece of gold elastic cord, create a loop bringing the ends around, and sandwich the ends between two pieces of sticky strip.  Remove the red backing from the top piece of sticky strip, and press the tab closed.  You’re done!

You can see a close up of one of the red ornament tags below:

Okay, on to the winner of yesterday’s Blog give-away.  Today is the LAST day I’ll be giving away the tutorial for the Christmas planner tin you see below.

And now……drumroll please……the winner of yesterday’s draw for the pdf tutorial of the Christmas Planner tin is Dianne Shiozaki !  Congratulations Dianne!  In order to draw my winners I use the website www.random.org so that the winner is randomly drawn.  Dianne, please email me at andrea@sunnystampin.com in order to claim your prize!

So what’s the next prize?  For the rest of the month of November I’ll be giving away a pdf tutorial for the ultra-cute box shown below.  As with the Christmas Planner tin tutorial, this is a project which I designed from scratch.  Well, almost from scratch – I actually modified a gable box which I had created during my Easter Blitz last year to make this project. So since I CASEd myself, I suppose I can still say it’s from scratch right *lol*?

I have showcased this box with a couple of Martha Stewart test tubes – one of which is filled with hot cocoa and the other with small marshmallows – the perfect recipe for the perfect cup of hot cocoa!  In the tutorial I show you how to create the little holder piece that keeps the test tubes in place.  If you don’t have test tubes you would simply omit the test tube holder piece, and then you could simply cover the windows with acetate and fill the box with goodies – the window would let you see the goodies inside.  I’ll be giving away the pdf tutorial I put together for this project, which includes supplies, dimensions and step-by-step photos with directions. Scroll down for the question of the day.

Today’s question:  What is your favourite Christmas song or Christmas music?  Or if you don’t celebrate Christmas, then what is your favourite song (any type of song).

Just so we’re all on the same page – the winner of today’s draw will be announced tomorrow evening (EST) when I post Holiday Blitz Day 9.  You can expect our daily posts to be released in the EVENING (EST).

I love all Christmas Songs and Carols, however, Silent Night is probably the most special and meaningful one to me. At Christmas Eve Church Service we always sing it to candlelight and I always cry. It is very moving and special.
Happy Holidays!

2

A favorite song of mine is Silver Bells. I love the image that it brings to mind of all of the hustle and bustle but in a more calm manner. It reminds me of the down town streets of Spokane, WA, where I grew up.

3

I love Breath of Heaven by Amy Grant. It is just so moving!

4

Andrea, My all time favorite song is “I’ll be Home for Christmas” I have lived away from my family for the past 20 years and still feel like my hometown is home no matter where I’ve lived.

Have a wonderful holiday season with your family and thanks again for sharing all of your talents with us.

5

My favorite Christmas song besides the traditional religious ones, would be, I’ll be Home for Christmas…just touches my heart.

6

My favorite Christmas songs are Christmas Through Your Eyes (Gloria Estefan) and Momma Liked the Roses (Elvis). Holidays make me sentimental.

7

Those tags are stunning. My favorite Christmas song is It Came Upon a Midnight Clear…..

8

I agree with Margie that all Christmas songs and hymns are special because they create in me a sense of joy and wonder. Sometimes we will hear a message through music that we would never hear with the spoken word.
BUT, I do have a favourite and it’s kind of kitchy – It’s by Dollie Parton and it’s called “I’ll be Home with Bells On”. The reason I like it so much is that it reminds me of the times when family and friends can come home (not every year, so when they do it’s extra special). And now when members of our family come home for Christmas they always wear jingle bells when they arrive!
Thanks for listening!

9

I can’t limit it to one particular song but I love Celine Dions Christmas album. Always makes me smile and gets me into the Christmas Spirit.
Thanks for taking the time to share all your projects with us. You inspire me!

10

Great idea for today’s ornament project! And love that Test Tube BOX!!! Hope I win! *crossing fingers* *please, please, please*

My favorite Christmas Songs were Always “Hark! The Harold Angels Sing!”, “Oh Come, All Ye Faithful” and “O Little Town of Bethlehem”. However, I have to agree with Chrissy. Since I heard “Breath of Heaven” last year I’ve been hooked on that one. It is very reverent and I just think how Mary must have felt. I think Amy Grant has captured that time beautifully!

11

One of my favorites is Feliz Navidad, because it reminds me of my mom! However, a long time favorite of mine is…i don’t know the name.
It was sung by band-aid maybe?
One verse is Do they know it’s Christmas time at all….
Another verse is Feed the world, let them know it’s Christmas time…
Anyone know which song i’m talking about??
Really, i love them all!!!

12

Hi,
I like almost all Christmas songs. I really like Away in the Manger and Silent Night. They help me remember Jesus Christ and the true meaning of Christmas.

Kristi Kelly

13

My favorite christmas song is one about Maine. I can’t remember the title but it is all about Christmas in Maine. Having spent every Christmas in Maine I can really relate to the song. My kids also love Rudolph.

14

I love Christmas – it’s my favorite time of year so I love just about any Christmas songs – to pick just one is hard. I love Mr. Christmas by Joe Diffe, I saw mommy kissing santa, santa baby – just love them all

Love the ornaments. I had made one and need to make more of them.

I love pretty much all Christmas music. But some of my favorites are Silent Night, Away in a Manager, I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus, Santa Baby & White Christmas to name a few. I have lots of Christmas cd’s and love to have them playing all thru the month of December.

18

I love these ornament cards! I had no desire to buy that die before but I think you’ve sold me on it!! I just might have to think about getting that one!! I am also thinking that my Christmas cards for next year will be similar to those!! Thanks for sharing!!

19

I LOVE them all!!! “Mary, Did You Know”, by Mark Lowery just now came to my mind.

20

I love this. This is such a great idea.

My favorite Christmas sound would be Jingle Bells. I don’t know why I just love it.

Karen

21

Love the ornaments and I think I wilkl do these for my club members. Thansk for sharing! You are the best!

I love many songs but the one that gives me a nostalgic feeling every time is the “Chestnuts roasting on an open fire” song. What the heck is the name? I am going senile I tell ya!

22

I can’t think of one in particular but there’s a lot of new Cd’s out with some great Christmas songs. Celine Dion has a pretty good one.
Very cute project!

23

THANK YOU FOR picking my name! I love it! My favorite Christmas song will always be Away in the Manger, but I really love all the Christmas songs. I miss carrolling at night with my church group, and trying to remember the songs, and holding a candle and trying not to burn our fingers.

24

I love any cheistmas music. I esp love going to sleep on Christmas eve with the TV turned to our local cable station – it has xmas music playing all night and the image on the screen is a roaring fireplace. We then play this station in the backround as we open gifts on christmas morning. Love the new give away and will be making some of these cute tags….lovin your ideas…thanks

25

Clint Black – Til’ santa’s gone (milk and cookies)

26

My favourite Christmas carol is O Holy Night and I especially love it when Michael Crawford sings it! Thanks for a chance to win an awesome prize!

27

What a cute gift idea!!!
My favourite Christmas music is Neil Diamond’s Christmas albulm. My mom LOVES Neil Diamond so I grew up listening to his music. When I hear his Christmas songs I know it’s Christmas time.
I do have a favourite song though…it’s Snoopy’s Christmas (the one with Snoopy and the Red Barron).

28

My favorite Christmas song for the last three years is “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” Three years ago on November 25th (today) my husband was in a horrible car accident and spent the next three months in an Intensive Care unit on a ventilator. For my daughter who was 14 at the time the song “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” took on a whole new meaning because we weren’t sure he was ever going to come home. We were very blessed because by the next Christmas he was indeed home and life was somewhat back to normal.

29

My all-time favorite is O Holy Night also. So much so that I have download a number of different versions and made my own CD – just listened to it last night and about drove my husband crazy with my singing along! I enjoyed it though!

30

My favourite Christmas song is “Christmas Shoes”. That can always bring a tear to my eyes!

31

My Grown Up Christmas List, by Amy Grant is my favorite x-mas song. I really like them all though! I love x-mas time!

32

I love all Christmas music. My favorite song is Oh Holy Night. We sing it every year at church. I love your ornament. I was just making some tonight. I even cut out the middle to let a picture show. Thanks again for sharing.

33

Love them all – after Thanksgiving! Guess I’ll be in the mood for “Silent Night” in a few days.

34

I love it! One more reason to get the big shot :)

My all time favourite Christmas song is Sarajevo Christmas by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. I’m also a fan of Mannheim Steamroller’s Christmas albums (something a little bit different than what you usually hear on the radio and in the malls).

35

Hands down, my absolute all-time favorite is Silent Night, particularly when Mannheim Steamroller does it. The haunting beauty of the song makes me puddle up every time I hear it (ok, so I’m puddling up right now, as I hear it in my head while I’m writing this…).

36

My favorite Christmas although it may be a Catholic church song is “Let There Be Peace on Earth.” Its so pretty sung in church on Christmas Eve. It was also my mother’s favorite song – she passed away just two years ago.

37

My all time favorite Christmas song is Silent Night. Just something very calming about that song.

38

Oh that is an easy one! I actually just put it this past weekend and cracked up because my boys looked at me like I was so crazy what’s my fav. song : Its by Alvin and the Chipmunks : Hoola Hoop! OH I Love that song! I don’t know what it is about it but it gets me in the Christmas mood! :)

39

I truly enjoy all Christmas music. If I had to choose, I think it would be Silent Night! My all time favorite is Amazing Grace.

40

My all time favorite “cutsie” song is Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer. I need to hear it at least once during the holidays but hopefully I’ll hear it a couple of times.

41

My favorite Christmas songs are Silent Night and O Come All Ye Faithful. Thank you for sharing all your fabulous tutorials!

42

I love all Christmas music…but right now what comes to mind as one of my favorites is “White Christmas.” I also love “The Christmas Song” (chesnuts roasting on an open fire), and “I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm.”

In fact, thanks for reminding me…I need to copy a few CDs that I can put in my car to start listening to!

43

Such cute ornaments!
My favourite Chrismas song… that’s a tough one. I would have to say that of all Christmas music (because I love most of it), I enjoy my Roger Whittaker CDs the most. I know, weird taste, but it’s what I grew up listening to, and to me, it MEANS Christmas! I also love my Big Band Christmas CDs… In the Christmas Mood – Glenn Miller Orchestra – fantastic!
(Oh, and for the lady above who asked about the title for Chestnuts roasting on an open fire… it’s really called “The Christmas Song”. Who knew?

44

I absolutely love the Harry Simone Chorale-
The Little Drummer Boy. It is the best album. I have listened to it since I was a little girl. I was so excited a few years ago to find it on cd that I ordered one for my sisters and my older kids as well! If you haven’t heard it, you should try it. It makes for a wonderful Christmas tradition.
BTW I also love your site. I check it every day and keep coming back more each day as well. Happy Holidays!

45

Silent night is my favorite.

47

That is such a cute treat box!

As we get ready to celebrate Thanksgiving down here in the states, I have been thinking about all the things that I am thankful for and one of those is you. You inspire me and make my day brighter whenever I read your blog. I so enjoy your artistry and the glimses of your family life that you share with us. Blessings to you and your loved ones.

52

54

I like any song done by Mannheim Steamroller. I just LOVE everything they do. I can not wait until the day after Thanksgiving when I get out all my Mannheim cds. It’s my most favorite part of Christmas.

55

My very favorite Christmas song is “Do You Hear What I Hear?”. Thank you for sharing:)

56

My favorite Christmas Song is Silver Bells, the version sung by Bing Crosby. I love it and always gets me in the Christmas mood! :o )

~*Priscilla*~

57

All Christmas songs put me in a mellow mood and slows me down to reflect about the holidays. With all of the hustle and bustle of the holiday, it is so easy to forget the true meaning of Christmas and the holiday tunes bring me “back to the moment.”

58

My favorite Christmas Music…I have too many, but to narrow it down to just a couple I’d have to say Christmas Blessing by NewSong OR the Christmas Story & Song told/sang by Bing Crosby. I had this as an album when I was growing up and have just found it on CD this past year. It’s a story about a little boy at Christmas time. I HIGHLY recommend it if you can find it.

59

I LOVE O Holy Night sung by Paul Brandt. His voice gives me shivers…

60

I love, love, love all Christmas music!!! I’ve been listening to it (on the radio so it’s okay!) for 2 weeks already. I especially love “Do You Hear What I Hear?” and Vince Gill’s “Let There Be Peace On Earth”. Silent Night on Christmas Eve by Candlelight is unbelievable! I could go on and on… Thanks for the wonderful projects! I was hoping you’d do something like this just like at Easter time. Jeannie

61

Very cute tags. I will have to try this. The test tube holder is adorable. I have the baby soda bottles, almost the same look that I plan to fill for gifts.
Favorite Christmas song…too many to name. All the classics. They get me moving at Christmas.

62

My favorite song is “What Child is This”. I always think of these lyrics when I hear just the music to Greensleeves. My second favorite is more recent “Mary Did You Know”.

63

Carol of the Bells!

64

Andrea- these are so fabulous!

I love Sarah MacLachlan’s holiday CD Winter Wonderland. Of course, the traditional is great too- Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

65

I love listening to Christmas carols in spanish. I love the traditional spanish Christmas carols. It helps me remember home back in Miami.

66

Have a Happy Thanksgiving Andrea!!!

67

Hi Andrea,

My favorite Christmas Song is Silver Bells. I have loved that song for a looooong time. It just gets me in the Christmas spirit and makes me think of how Christmas may have been years ago.

The new Faith Hill Christmas CD is great too.

Sharon L in Mich.

68

Any Christmas music is good music. I love it all!

69

I love all Christmas music! You’re blog is absolutely awesome!!

70

I found the song Nicole Bailey was asking about if you could post an answer to her. The song is called Let Them Know It’s Christmastime and it’s sung by Band Aid, Kylie Minogue, and also the BareNaked Ladies. I also love that song. Another of my favorites is Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses. This song is hilarious and contagious.

71

My favorite is Last christmas sung by Wham! As far as classics go I like Let it Snow!

72

With the banquet of Christmas songs available, I’m not sure I could choose just one that is my favorite. But I lean towards liking the old-fashioned songs rather than newer ones.

73

I really love them all. I always seem to sing “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire” and “Here Comes Santa Clause right down Santa Clause Lane” so they must be favorites! But then there’s “Hark the Harold Angels Sing” and “Oh Little Town of Bethlehem”…Oh gee..and “Silent Night”, “Deck the Halls” and who can forget “Silent Night”…Oh..see what I mean. HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU AND YOURS!

74

My favorites are White Christmas and Carol of the Bells. That song that starts out Bells will be ringing … always signals Christmas season is here.

75

My favorite Christmas song is “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas” because I’m always dreaming for a white Christmas since where I live it rarely snows.

76

I love all Christmas music, it’s my favorite part of the holidays. But if I had to choose my absolute favorite, it is O Holy Night, especially in the original french lyrics.

77

Joy to the World – done the jazzy style that the worship leader at my church wrote. It’s very cool – and he’ll be singing it live on our local Christian radio station next week!!

88

Andrea, I love today’s project. Will definitely have to try it out after Thanksgiving. And today’s question is an easy one–My favorite Christmas song is the Veggie Tales’ “Twelve Days of (Polish) Christmas”. If you’re Polish like me, it’s downright hilarious!

89

Wait, maybe it’s called the “Twelve Polish Christmas Foods”. Still hilarious!

90

This tutorial is perfect timing. I’m trying to come up with new different gift tags for my club and this is something I would never have thought of doing. Thank you for your inspiration.
My favorite Christmas song is I’ll Be Home For Christmas. Doesn’t that just say it all???
Irene Poe

Mary Did You Know is a beautiful song and definitely a favorite.

100

I love the words to the later verses of “Oh Come Oh Come Emmanual” Usually you just think of the refrain but the verses are beautiful!

101

Well, this year my absolute favourite christmas song has to be ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’ despite having listened to it since august, it sound so much sweeter that my (almost) 2 year old is the one doing the singing! all we really get is ‘wish’ and ‘Missmas’ with a ‘happy beer’ on the end, but it is music to my ears!!

102

Choosing only one song is difficult. The first song that popped into my mind was Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire, then White Christmas.

I also like all the traditional Christmas songs like Silent Night, Hark the Harold Angels Sing, etc.

My 13 year old daughter and I look forward to when the Christmas songs can be heard on the radio. We occasionally listen to C-songs during the year.

I enjoy seeing your projects but never take the time to make anything but cards. No need to add me to the drawing. I win by enjoying your blog.

103

I don’t much care for traditional Christmas songs. By the time Christmas rolls around, I have heard way too much Christmas music in stores and such, that I feel totally turned off. BUT, I do like rock versions of christmas songs… my favorite being Bruce Springsteen’s version of “Santa Clause is coming to town”. That always makes me perk up.

104

I love all the Christmas songs but my favorite are “Mary, Did You Know” and Oh Holy Night”. I start to tear up when singing or listening to them as the words seem to send such a beautiful message.

gosh, don’t think I can say a favorite, as I enjoy all the Christmas Carols. Just hearing them brings the spirit into the air.

130

That’s a tough question to answer, because I love all Christmas music! I have been listening to it on the radio since November 1st and I have a huge collection of Christmas CDs by all different artists – from Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole to Kenny G and Michael Buble or Lorie Line and Elvis! Since I can’t choose a favorite artist I will have to say Silent Night, but I love them all – religious or not!

131

Every since I was a little girl my favorite Christmas song has been Little Drummer Boy.

Thank-you so much for sharing your tutorials and love of stamping with us!

I absolutely love a little known Christmas song called “Mary, Did You Know?”. The melody is haunting and the words are beautiful.

Mary, did you know that your baby boy will one day walk on water?
Did you know that your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?
Did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you’ve delivered will soon deliver you?

Mary, did you know that your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?
Did you know that your baby boy will calm a storm with His hand?
Did you know that your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
And when you kiss your little baby, you’ve kissed the face of God?

Mary, did you know?
The blind will see; the deaf will hear; and the dead will live again;
The lame will leap; the dumb will speak…the praises of the Lamb?

Mary, did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Did you know that your baby boy will one day rule the nations?
Did you know that your baby boy is heaven’s perfect Lamb?
This sleeping child you’re holding is the Great I Am?
