Holiday Blitz Day 8: Ornament Tag Tutorial…another winner…and a new give-away!
Posted on: Tuesday, November 25th, 2008
Are you having as much fun with this Holiday Blitz as I am? I am just loving being able to spend time in my stamp room creating. Of course the danger is now that it’s really hard to actually leave my stamp room *lol*!. I can’t believe we’re halfway through the Blitz already! For today’s project I’m going to share with you some cute ornament shaped tags I made. I made a matched set of four, which you can see below. I packaged them up in a medium cello bag, topped it with a Big Shot Top Note, tied the candy cane ribbon around it and stamped a tag using my curly lable punch set.

My inspiration for these ornament tags came from the card you see on the left. This was a card made by Erica Toet – one of my Stampin’ Up! sidelines for one of the Christmas Card Swaps at our Demonstrator Stampfest weekend. When I saw her super-cute ornament on the card I immediately thought of the Big Shot and my poor unused scallop circle die that has been sitting in my drawer since August – and I just KNEW I had to try make some ornament tags – i.e. tags that look like ornaments.
I’ve put together a quick tutorial for you below to show you how I made my ornament tags.
Step 1: Cut as many 4" x 8 1/2" pieces of CS as you want to make tags. I cut two out of Kiwi Kiss CS and two out of Riding Hood Red CS. Score them at 4 1/4", and fold along the score line using your bone folder.

Step 2: To create the actual scalloped "ornament" you’re going to need the Sizzix Scallop Circle #2 Bigz die ( you can see it in the picture below).

Step 3: Take your folded CS and lay it – with the fold oriented at the top – over your scalloped circle die as shown in the picture below. You can see two complete scallops and two half scallops showing above the fold.

Step 4: Create the following "sandwich": first you’ll need a cutting pad, your scallop die, the folded CS and then another cutting pad. Slowly roll it through your Big Shot.

Step 5: Cut as many scalloped ornament tags as desired.

Step 6: Decorate the front of your ornament as desired. I stamped the cardinal from "A Cardinal Christmas" stamp set onto a circle of Very Vanilla CS, colored it in, and mounted it onto a circle of Brushed Gold CS. I then mounted the whole thing to my "ornament" front. To color mine in I used a blender pen and the following colors: Kiwi Kiss, Riding Hood Red, Bravo Burgundy, Close to Cocoa & Tangerine Tango Classic inks.

Step 7: Punch a tab out of Brushed Gold CS using your tab punch. Attach only the bottom curved edge of the tab to your "ornament" FRONT.

Step 8: Using your Crop-a-Dile punch a hole for your eyelet on your tab. Repeat on the other side.

Step 9: Set a gold eyelet in each hole. As you see from the picture below, only half of your tab is attached to the ornament – and it is attached to the FRONT only.

Step 10: Flip your ornament tag over. Take a 4" piece of gold elastic cord, create a loop bringing the ends around, and sandwich the ends between two pieces of sticky strip. Remove the red backing from the top piece of sticky strip, and press the tab closed. You’re done!

You can see a close up of one of the red ornament tags below:

Okay, on to the winner of yesterday’s Blog give-away. Today is the LAST day I’ll be giving away the tutorial for the Christmas planner tin you see below.
And now……drumroll please……the winner of yesterday’s draw for the pdf tutorial of the Christmas Planner tin is Dianne Shiozaki ! Congratulations Dianne! In order to draw my winners I use the website www.random.org so that the winner is randomly drawn. Dianne, please email me at andrea@sunnystampin.com in order to claim your prize!
So what’s the next prize? For the rest of the month of November I’ll be giving away a pdf tutorial for the ultra-cute box shown below. As with the Christmas Planner tin tutorial, this is a project which I designed from scratch. Well, almost from scratch – I actually modified a gable box which I had created during my Easter Blitz last year to make this project. So since I CASEd myself, I suppose I can still say it’s from scratch right *lol*?
I have showcased this box with a couple of Martha Stewart test tubes – one of which is filled with hot cocoa and the other with small marshmallows – the perfect recipe for the perfect cup of hot cocoa! In the tutorial I show you how to create the little holder piece that keeps the test tubes in place. If you don’t have test tubes you would simply omit the test tube holder piece, and then you could simply cover the windows with acetate and fill the box with goodies – the window would let you see the goodies inside. I’ll be giving away the pdf tutorial I put together for this project, which includes supplies, dimensions and step-by-step photos with directions. Scroll down for the question of the day.

Today’s question: What is your favourite Christmas song or Christmas music? Or if you don’t celebrate Christmas, then what is your favourite song (any type of song).
Just so we’re all on the same page – the winner of today’s draw will be announced tomorrow evening (EST) when I post Holiday Blitz Day 9. You can expect our daily posts to be released in the EVENING (EST).

I love all Christmas Songs and Carols, however, Silent Night is probably the most special and meaningful one to me. At Christmas Eve Church Service we always sing it to candlelight and I always cry. It is very moving and special.
Happy Holidays!
November 25th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
A favorite song of mine is Silver Bells. I love the image that it brings to mind of all of the hustle and bustle but in a more calm manner. It reminds me of the down town streets of Spokane, WA, where I grew up.

I love Breath of Heaven by Amy Grant. It is just so moving!
November 25th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Andrea, My all time favorite song is “I’ll be Home for Christmas” I have lived away from my family for the past 20 years and still feel like my hometown is home no matter where I’ve lived.
Have a wonderful holiday season with your family and thanks again for sharing all of your talents with us.
November 25th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
My favorite Christmas song besides the traditional religious ones, would be, I’ll be Home for Christmas…just touches my heart.
November 25th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
My favorite Christmas songs are Christmas Through Your Eyes (Gloria Estefan) and Momma Liked the Roses (Elvis). Holidays make me sentimental.
November 25th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
Those tags are stunning. My favorite Christmas song is It Came Upon a Midnight Clear…..
November 25th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
I agree with Margie that all Christmas songs and hymns are special because they create in me a sense of joy and wonder. Sometimes we will hear a message through music that we would never hear with the spoken word.
BUT, I do have a favourite and it’s kind of kitchy – It’s by Dollie Parton and it’s called “I’ll be Home with Bells On”. The reason I like it so much is that it reminds me of the times when family and friends can come home (not every year, so when they do it’s extra special). And now when members of our family come home for Christmas they always wear jingle bells when they arrive!
Thanks for listening!
November 25th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
I can’t limit it to one particular song but I love Celine Dions Christmas album. Always makes me smile and gets me into the Christmas Spirit.
Thanks for taking the time to share all your projects with us. You inspire me!
November 25th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
Great idea for today’s ornament project! And love that Test Tube BOX!!! Hope I win! *crossing fingers* *please, please, please*
My favorite Christmas Songs were Always “Hark! The Harold Angels Sing!”, “Oh Come, All Ye Faithful” and “O Little Town of Bethlehem”. However, I have to agree with Chrissy. Since I heard “Breath of Heaven” last year I’ve been hooked on that one. It is very reverent and I just think how Mary must have felt. I think Amy Grant has captured that time beautifully!
November 25th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
One of my favorites is Feliz Navidad, because it reminds me of my mom! However, a long time favorite of mine is…i don’t know the name.
It was sung by band-aid maybe?
One verse is Do they know it’s Christmas time at all….
Another verse is Feed the world, let them know it’s Christmas time…
Anyone know which song i’m talking about??
Really, i love them all!!!
November 25th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
Hi,

Very cute project!
November 25th, 2008 at 9:55 pm

November 25th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
I love any cheistmas music. I esp love going to sleep on Christmas eve with the TV turned to our local cable station – it has xmas music playing all night and the image on the screen is a roaring fireplace. My favourite Christmas music is Neil Diamond’s Christmas albulm. My mom LOVES Neil Diamond so I grew up listening to his music. When I hear his Christmas songs I know it’s Christmas time.

November 25th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
My favorite Christmas song for the last three years is “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” Three years ago on November 25th (today) my husband was in a horrible car accident and spent the next three months in an Intensive Care unit on a ventilator. For my daughter who was 14 at the time the song “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” took on a whole new meaning because we weren’t sure he was ever going to come home. We were very blessed because by the next Christmas he was indeed home and life was somewhat back to normal.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
My all-time favorite is O Holy Night also. So much so that I have download a number of different versions and made my own CD – just listened to it last night and about drove my husband crazy with my singing along! I enjoyed it though!
November 25th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
My favourite Christmas song is “Christmas Shoes”. That can always bring a tear to my eyes!

November 25th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
Love them all – after Thanksgiving! Guess I’ll be in the mood for “Silent Night” in a few days.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
I love it! One more reason to get the big shot
My all time favourite Christmas song is Sarajevo Christmas by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. I’m also a fan of Mannheim Steamroller’s Christmas albums (something a little bit different than what you usually hear on the radio and in the malls).
November 25th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
Hands down, my absolute all-time favorite is Silent Night, particularly when Mannheim Steamroller does it. The haunting beauty of the song makes me puddle up every time I hear it (ok, so I’m puddling up right now, as I hear it in my head while I’m writing this…).
November 25th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
My favorite Christmas although it may be a Catholic church song is “Let There Be Peace on Earth.” Its so pretty sung in church on Christmas Eve. It was also my mother’s favorite song – she passed away just two years ago.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
My all time favorite Christmas song is Silent Night. Just something very calming about that song.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:17 pm

November 25th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
I love all Christmas music…but right now what comes to mind as one of my favorites is “White Christmas.” I also love “The Christmas Song” (chesnuts roasting on an open fire), and “I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm.”
In fact, thanks for reminding me…I need to copy a few CDs that I can put in my car to start listening to!
November 25th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
Such cute ornaments!
My favourite Chrismas song… that’s a tough one. I would have to say that of all Christmas music (because I love most of it), I enjoy my Roger Whittaker CDs the most. I know, weird taste, but it’s what I grew up listening to, and to me, it MEANS Christmas! I also love my Big Band Christmas CDs… In the Christmas Mood – Glenn Miller Orchestra – fantastic!
(Oh, and for the lady above who asked about the title for Chestnuts roasting on an open fire… it’s really called “The Christmas Song”. Who knew?
November 25th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
I absolutely love the Harry Simone Chorale-
The Little Drummer Boy. It is the best album. I have listened to it since I was a little girl. I was so excited a few years ago to find it on cd that I ordered one for my sisters and my older kids as well! If you haven’t heard it, you should try it. It makes for a wonderful Christmas tradition.
BTW I also love your site. I check it every day and keep coming back more each day as well. Happy Holidays!

November 25th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
All Christmas songs put me in a mellow mood and slows me down to reflect about the holidays. With all of the hustle and bustle of the holiday, it is so easy to forget the true meaning of Christmas and the holiday tunes bring me “back to the moment.”
November 25th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
My favorite Christmas Music…I have too many, but to narrow it down to just a couple I’d have to say Christmas Blessing by NewSong OR the Christmas Story & Song told/sang by Bing Crosby. I had this as an album when I was growing up and have just found it on CD this past year. It’s a story about a little boy at Christmas time. I HIGHLY recommend it if you can find it.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
I LOVE O Holy Night sung by Paul Brandt. His voice gives me shivers…
November 25th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
I love, love, love all Christmas music!!! I’ve been listening to it (on the radio so it’s okay!) for 2 weeks already. I especially love “Do You Hear What I Hear?” and Vince Gill’s “Let There Be Peace On Earth”. Silent Night on Christmas Eve by Candlelight is unbelievable! I could go on and on… Thanks for the wonderful projects! I was hoping you’d do something like this just like at Easter time. Jeannie
November 25th, 2008 at 11:24 pm

Well, this year my absolute favourite christmas song has to be ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’ despite having listened to it since august, it sound so much sweeter that my (almost) 2 year old is the one doing the singing! all we really get is ‘wish’ and ‘Missmas’ with a ‘happy beer’ on the end, but it is music to my ears!!
November 26th, 2008 at 4:59 am
Choosing only one song is difficult. The first song that popped into my mind was Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire, then White Christmas.
I also like all the traditional Christmas songs like Silent Night, Hark the Harold Angels Sing, etc.
My 13 year old daughter and I look forward to when the Christmas songs can be heard on the radio. We occasionally listen to C-songs during the year.
I enjoy seeing your projects but never take the time to make anything but cards. No need to add me to the drawing. I win by enjoying your blog.
November 26th, 2008 at 5:01 am
I don’t much care for traditional Christmas songs. By the time Christmas rolls around, I have heard way too much Christmas music in stores and such, that I feel totally turned off. BUT, I do like rock versions of christmas songs… my favorite being Bruce Springsteen’s version of “Santa Clause is coming to town”. That always makes me perk up.
November 26th, 2008 at 6:40 am
I love all the Christmas songs but my favorite are “Mary, Did You Know” and Oh Holy Night”. I start to tear up when singing or listening to them as the words seem to send such a beautiful message.

I absolutely love a little known Christmas song called “Mary, Did You Know?”. The melody is haunting and the words are beautiful.
Mary, did you know that your baby boy will one day walk on water?
Did you know that your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?
Did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you’ve delivered will soon deliver you?
Mary, did you know that your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?
Did you know that your baby boy will calm a storm with His hand?
Did you know that your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
And when you kiss your little baby, you’ve kissed the face of God?
Mary, did you know?
The blind will see; the deaf will hear; and the dead will live again;
The lame will leap; the dumb will speak…the praises of the Lamb?
Mary, did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Did you know that your baby boy will one day rule the nations?
Did you know that your baby boy is heaven’s perfect Lamb?
This sleeping child you’re holding is the Great I Am?
