Embossed Butterfly Birthday Card
Posted on: Wednesday, January 6th, 2010Today I wanted to share with you a card I made using some of the brand new product in the Occasions Mini Catalogue. I cannot tell you how in love I am with this catalogue! When Stampin’ Up! first released it on the demonstrator website, and I got my first look at it, my jaw just about hit the table. I was seriously stunned, each page was better than the last. Of course after I got over the shock, I couldn’t stop drooling over all the delicious new goodies…and then of course I just had to start putting together my wish list. That must have taken me at least 3 or 4 days to do. Thank goodness Stampin’ Up! gave us plenty of time between the Mini Catalogue preview and the start of our pre-order for me to finally make up my mind.
When I designed my card, I decided to use the Sending Love Specialty DP, but not for a Valentine’s project. I thought that the glittery pink paper I chose would be perfect for a female birthday card. After all, what girl doesn’t like pink and bling right?
You can watch a video on how I made the card below:
Directions:
- Take a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of Kraft CS and fold it in half using your bone folder to create your card base.
- Center and stick a 2″ x 5 1/4″ piece of the glittery pink DP from the Sending Love DP collection along the top of your card – make sure you leave an even border along the left, right and top edges.
- Stamp a greeting from the Well Scripted stamp set in the bottom left corner of the card front using Chocolate Chip Classic ink.
- Take a 2″ x 5 1/2″ piece of Chocolate Chip CS and scallop one 5 1/2″ edge using the Scallop Trim Border punch. Trim this Chocolate Chip CS piece so that it is 1″ wide using a paper cutter (I like to use Stampin’ Up!’s table top paper cutter).
- Stick the scalloped Chocolate Chip CS piece onto the card front using Snail adhesive, so that the bottom edge of the scallops are about 1/4″ above the top of your stamped greeting.
- Open up your card and lay your card front on a foam mat. Using your paper-piercing tool, pierce three holes – in a row, spaced slightly greater than 1/4″ apart – along the left side of the scalloped Chocolate Chip CS strip.
- Insert a clear rhinestone brad into each hole – I used a small brad, then a medium brad and then another small brad. The prongs will show on the inside of the card. If this bothers you, you can cut two 4″ x 5 1/4″ pieces of Very Vanilla CS and center and stick them to the inside of the card front and back. The Very Vanilla CS will cover up the prongs of the brads. Set your card aside for a moment.
- You will now need a 2″ x 2 1/2″ scrap of both Very Vanilla CS and Pretty in Pink CS. Die cut each of these pieces using the Stampin’ Up! Beautiful Wings Embosslit die and your Big Shot.
- Stick the desired number/size of butterflies onto your scalloped Chocolate Chip CS using a mini glue dot for each. You’re done!
I hope you enjoyed today’s project!

Beautiful card Andrea!!! I was wondering if you’d consider in the future making a PDF copy, (is that what it’s called??), for the cards you post like you do in your newsletters? I love that you write all the directions down to make the card, it’s very helpful, but wondered if this is something doable too? Now I have no idea how time consuming this is, so if this is something that is way out there, I apoligize ahead of time.
Thanks for all you do, you are amazing!!!!!

I’m totally with you on the reaction to the Spring Mini … I always enter my order into the system and then step away for a couple of days. My first time thru, I think I put just about every single item in my order. LOL … but there are a few that I just love: Vintage Vogue stamp set, the bird/branch punch, the satin ribbon, the dot embossing folder, the tiny tags stamp set … uh oh … here I go. Haha.

Glad you enjoyed your Christmas break. Thank you for the comments on our blog. If you have a chance to look at it again, I posted the inside of the tri-shutter album too.
I haven’t decorated the original Christmas one, just went straight to making my own. The directions were so easy to follow. I wish I would have ordered sooner to get the fall slider one too. I just wasn’t confident enough.
