Glittery Winter Thanks Card

glitterywinterthankscard

Whew!  What a week we had last week.  As if things weren’t already challenging enough, on Wednesday of last week my computer decided to stop working. Although thankfully I had MOST of what I needed copied onto my external hard drive, somehow  – and I have a feeling it was “user” error – the user being me - I lost absolutely ALL the videos I have filmed over the last year. I cried.  Yes, it seems silly to cry over videos but we’ve had so many little glitches and problems with computers and shipping and items I’m waiting for on backorder – that this was the straw that broke the camel’s back.  When I looked in the mirror this morning, I swear I saw more gray hairs and bigger bags under my eyes *sigh* So I spent a good part of the end of last week and the weekend uploading software to the family computer so that I can use that until my computer is fixed.  While I’m relieved to have a back up, now I’m constantly “fighting” with my kids over who gets to use the computer *lol*.

Anyways, onto today’s card.  I have to confess, I’m getting pretty tired of Christmas cards since I’ve been making them since September, so today I decided that instead of another Christmas card, I was going to make a winter-themed thank you card.  I find that the Christmas Cocoa designer paper is perfect for winter-themed projects – there’s no obvious Christmas “symbols” on the DP – just winter symbols (i.e. snowflakes).  Besides, we still have MONTHS of winter left, and it feels silly making spring cards in January and February!

Today’s card was inspired by THIS card of Kristina Werner’s (one of my favorite bloggers). I used her card layout and general design features to create my card, only using all Stampin’ Up! product.  I decided to step my card up a little by adding glittery snowflakes using Stampin’ Up!’s Fine Galaxy Glitter and Heat and Stick powder.

You can watch a video on how I made this card below:

Directions:

  1. Take a 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ piece of Real Red CS and fold it in half using your bone folder.  Run your embossing buddy along the bottom 1/2 of the card.
  2. Randomly stamp the snowflake from the Patterned Pines Level 1 Hostess Set (or you can use the Serene Snowflakes stamp set) onto the bottom of the card front using VersaMark ink.
  3. Sprinkle Heat and Stick embossing powder onto the stamped snowflakes.  Melt the Heat and Stick powder with your heat tool. Quickly sprinkle on the gold fine galaxy glitter onto the Heat and Stick powder.  Heat set with your heat tool.  Set aside for a moment.
  4. Take a 3″ x 4″ piece of Whisper White CS and stamp your greeting from the Heard from the Heart stamp set along the top edge of the CS in Soft Suede Classic ink.  Round the top two corners of the Whisper White CS piece with your corner rounder punch.
  5. Stick a 1 1/2″ x 4″ piece of striped Christmas Cocoa DP along the bottom edge of the Whisper White CS. Take a 5″ piece of ribbon and lay it across the seam of the DP.  Bring the ends of the ribbon around to the back of the CS and stick them down with Snail adhesive.
  6. Thread three buttons (2 red and 1 mustard) from the Playground Designer Buttons collection with coordinating slivers of CS.  Stick the buttons onto the DP as shown in the picture of the card.
  7. Center and stick the Whisper White CS piece onto the card front using 5 Stampin’ Dimensionals.  You’re done!

I hope you enjoyed this card!  Please scroll down to the next post to see the winners of the Everyday Elegance Class.

So sorry to hear about you computer troubles. You can absolutely cry, you put a lot of time and effort into your videos. I’m so sorry! I am sure I am not alone when I say we truly appreciate all that you do for us! And I do believe computer issues cause gray hair LOL! A few months ago, our computer crashed and I thought we had lost ALL our pictures, pictures of my kids. My oldest is only 5, so thinking I lost all my baby photos, I was distraught! I prayed and prayed and thank the Lord above, we were able to retrieve them. But I do have a few more gray hairs too!
Love the simplicity of this card too! Thanks for always sharing such wonderful inspiration!

I love winter-themed cards and I’m a sucker for snowflakes! Beautiful work as always!

My heart just breaks for you as I know what a loss that feels. My computer died twice already this year! But at this time I don’t have videos yet. So cry, cry a lot but do know this–you inspire me EVERY day, the think tank on your projects constantly amaze me! Where you come up with all of these projects, classes, etc. just boggles the mind. I have never disliked anything that you have done and this card is NO exception. I am going to make a few of these cards as I needed some inspiration for thank you cards recently.

So thank you, thank you, thank you, I look forward to all of your emails every day.

Take care,

T.

I think you were right to cry!! Sorry to hear about your troubles – I keep having a nagging feeling to back up family photos on my computer. Hope things get resolved quickly – can relate to family fighting over the computer!! Hope this week turns out to be better for you!

14

Somedays you just wonder what is going to go right. Sorry to hear about your videos – I can only imagine how heartbreaking that can be. Hope you have better days ahead.

15

I can completely sympathize with the computer problems. I thought I lost all my family photos recently, and it was one of the worst feelings in the world. Hope you still have a chance to retrieve your videos. And you still manage to keep creating inspirational projects for us! Wish I had even a smidgeon of your creativity.

16

Andrea, I would have cried too. Sometimes it is just the release that we need. Thank you for all that you do. I look at your site every day. You are an inspiration!

17

Sorry about computer problems. I understand how frustrating that is, and the loss is like losing a friend….Love this card and the glitter!

18

This card is just what I needed for a winter birthday card that isn’t too spring like and doesn’t say Christmas. Needless to say, I will change the sentiment. Thanks for all you do for us. We appreciate you so much. I would have cried too. I might have thrown something through the computer screen. I think they conspire against us. Hope all will be okay eventually.

19

I’ve got heat n stick but since I didn’t know how to use it I’ve shelved it for years. Nice to know how to use it properly!!

20

Sorry to hear that you’ve had such a bad week, it never rains but it pours! I lurrrrrrrrrrrrvvvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeee this card and look forward to having a go.

I also wanted to say that I bought the tri-shutter album and I’m having a ball making two for both sets of grandparents instead of a christmas card, thanks for making such cool stuff!!

Thank you for having such a wonderful website & ideas – I take a peek daily to see what exciting things you have instore for us.

I too know exactly how you feel this week with your computer – My hard drive crashed this week and I have lost thousands of stampin ideas and inspiration – including your 12 days of christmas up to date as well as anything I have purchased from your Demo to Demo site – I have a great computer tech who thinks he will be able to get it back – I can only hope!

Keep up the good work which we all love so much.

Regards
Donna xx

Andrea we totally understand your distress about the videos. They symbolise hours and hours of work, and it’s tough to lose so much so easily! You have my deepest sympathies.

LOVE that card – isn’t it funny, I just printed a pic yesterday of Kristina’s original so I could put it in my “card layouts to case” file!

My tri-shutter album arrived yesterday, wow I am totally impressed with the presentation and the quality of the kit you’ve put together. So professional, thank you! I can’t wait to make it up!

23

Ack at the loss of your videos…. so know what that feels like!

Love the card – so simple yet gorgeous!

24

Nice card, I like the red and gold.

25

Sorry you had such a bad week. I know how it feels to lose things on the computer. I had my computer crash one time and I lost a lot of pictures.

Your card is great! I like that you did a Holiday theme on a thank you note.

Thanks for sharing and I hope you get your computer back soon.

26

Haha, I just saw your card and thought “uuuh pretty”, then I thought “hm wait a minute… this card seems familiar” ^^ I am currently playing along with every day of Kristinas HCS and the card I made (based on Kristinas card which is fabulous, too) is my favourite holiday card so far. Great to see what you made of it :) Best wishes from Germany!

27

thanks for using the heat & stick powder; that’s a product I need to revisit with my stampers. Great card too!

28

Your card is so elegant. I hope your week gets better. Computers are so frustrating. I am so sorry about losing all your hours and hours of lost work.

29

I hope things start going “right” for you soon, like today! I hate it when the computer crashes. The time I cried is when it happen as I was finishing my research project that was due the next day. I was beyond upset. Sorry you lost the videos, I know that was a lot of hard work. Are the vidios still on u-tube?

Love the winter theme thank you card.

Love the red with the gold snowflakes. Such a simple yet elegant card. I hate to have to tell you this, but I am not done with my Christmas cards yet, so this one is going on my list. Thanks for the idea. Have yourself a wonderful day!

I feel your pain losing all those videos! That’s many invested hours and blood, sweat, and tears! Wishing you techno luck :)

Great card today!

36

I am SO sympathetic about your computer problems! My hard drive crashed last weekend. I thought I had everything backed up but I found quite a few things were not. The worst has been ALL my MDS files and of all things my email address book. Only nice thing is now I will be getting a new computer. Thanks for the pretty sparkly card today!

37

this is a stunning card. gorgeous job.

38

I wish I was there to provide a shoulder to cry on because I can imagine what a feeling of loss you experienced. I am so sorry that happened for I know how much time and effort you put into your videos. I wish you all the luck in getting all your computer problems solved.
