Hugs & Fishes Punch Pal

Wow, it feels like the days are racing by.  Every day starts early and ends late.  I have been engaged in the ongoing battle of trying to keep my 3 1/2 year old from escaping from his room in the morning and wreaking havoc on my upstairs.  Yesterday he opened the door (that had a safety knob), and scaled the gate (which was elevated off the ground too high to climb but too low to leopard crawl) and proceeded to empty out all the DVD’s.  Next I added bells to his door knob so that I could hear when he escaped, but unfortunately I did not hear it and he escaped again, climbed over the kitchen gates and served himself breakfast on the floor.  There were rasberries and cookies all over the floor.  My son was sitting in the middle, eating and sipping a juice which he had found in the fridge.  Now how is he getting over these gates you may ask if they are placed high?  Well he stacks his pillows on one side, throws his stuffed animals on the other side, and then climbs the pillows, hoists himself over and has a soft landing on the animals on the other side.  Needless to say I think I may start going grey soon, or perhaps I will plead insanity and check myself into an asylum.  It feels like I am pitting my wits against a 3 year old and am slowly losing. I thought I was in the lead when he kept turning his light on after putting him to bed.  I had turned the light off from the fan so that the switch had no effect.  I was so proud that I had outsmarted him.  I was wrong.  *SIGH*  the battle continues.

Well enough of that, on to my project lol.  Today it is a Punch Pal Penguin and fishes.  The penguin is ready to give a hug and lots of fishes.  The bag was simply the Stampin’ Up Scallop Bag die.  I love using those XL dies because it makes gift giving a cinch!  The icicle tutorial can be found here: icicle tutorial

Love the penguin project. I will borrow the idea to use in school once the students come back from Christmas break. Thanks.
The stories of your son are bringing back memories. My boys are now 15 & 16. BOYS!! When they were little, they were always climbing over gates, into the shower, down the steps and into cabinets.
Now, they are into swimming, lacrosee and girls!! I’m not sure which is worse/better…I think the grey hairs are popping out again!
Hang in there and take lots of pictures of the little dude so you can show his girlfriends!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

What a great little treat bag and so easy for gift-giving!

7

Cute! We just made a penguin at my monthly punch class a few nights ago.

8

HEHEHEHEHE… smart little boy you got there! Its sounding like your gonna need an alarm system so you could hear him when he’s up and running! :) Love this project I think I’m gonna make some pengiuns w/my Sassy little girl! :)

9

So absolutely cute. Love the project. Thanks for sharing on how to create the icicles.

10

Too cute! I really enjoy your punch designs. Keep up the great job and thanks for sharing.

11

The project is adorable. It sounds to me like you may have a very smart young man on your hands. He is a problem solver. Just think what he may grow up and accomplish. Nancy

ya gotta give the kid credit for being inventive. pretty darn good
for a 3 year old.

Oh my goodness this penguin and fish are so adorable. My 6 year old son loooovvees penguins so I will be making some of these for him. You are so talented – thank you for sharing your talent with us. I love the story about your little escape artist. Good luck!!

14

Love the penguins, the fish are cute also. Oh what a handful you have with that boy! I hope you are making him clean up the messes. When mine was little I figured if he was big enough to make the mess he was big enough to clean it up also. Of course I had to supervise and help him, but he learned pretty quick. I was lucky I didn’t need baby gates in my house when he was that age. My biggest problem was him escaping out the front door. There were several moments where I was in a panic when I found the door slightly open. At least you know he is a smart one!

15

love it, I have a friend who loves penguins so this will be great for her, thanks for sharing,Eileen

16

Great project! I really appreciate all your shading tips.

17

All my children were their worst at 3. I think they surprise themselves by how much the can do and it gets them into so much trouble. Who made up the the terrible 2’s. It’s definitely terrible 3’s. Very cut punch tutorial. Thanks for sharing!

18

Super cute! I love this box!

I really enjoyed the story of your son, he sounds just like mine. We would find him curled up naked with a hot dog next to his cheek as if he was cuddling on the couch in the mornings. Oh good times. I also have a pic where he dumped a BRAND NEW box of Lucky charms on my couch. He woke me up in the morning by telling me he needs more marshmallows? I was confused we didn’t have any?! Oh yes he ate ALL the marshmallows out of the cereal and left the rest in a big heap. Oh boys! Good times. If it makes you feel any better he has outgrown that stage. :)

19

What a little smartie you have! At least he doesn’t try to make “cookies” using stick margerine in the toaster like my friends twins did once! Fortunately the toaster was unplugged!

Adorable penguin! What a great idea fo a winter project! Thanks for sharing!

That little penguin is just the cutest thing ever. The bag is just perfect for lots of occasions and I think that the icicles are so clever. Love’em. Thanks for all the wonderful projects. I’m so happy I stumbled on the Blitz.

21

Should have said the Blitz from 2008. Some cute stuff there as well. You girls have a lot of clever in you. Thanks a whole heap.

22

Love the penguins and fish! I have been wanted to get that bag die but haven’t yet. Your boy sound like two handfuls. He is pretty smart too. Using pillows for a ladder and stuffed animals for a landing pad is pretty genius if you ask me. Thankfully, my almost three year old boy doesn’t need a baby gate. I feel for you and hope he calms down some for you. Thanks for sharing the story and the punch tutorial.

24

This looks like a lot of fun! I love the X’d out eyes on the fish!

25

Sounds like you have a very resourceful little man. That will come in handy some day but for now I can see why you are at your wit’s end. I remember those days well when my 15 and 11 year old sons where that young. The things they would get into. Now my 7 year old daughter is keeping me on my toes with the things that she gets into. We call her the whirling tornado–nothing is safe in her path. All we can do is laugh and remember that these are the best days.

Love, love, love your penguin. My oldest collects penguins so I’m off to make him one. Thanks for the inspiration.

26

The story of your son is too funny! I’m right there with you because I have an almost three year old. Much to our dismay, he sleeps with us but because of that, I always know when he gets up! That’s probably a good thing. :-) Children definitely keep us on our toys. The blessings outweigh the struggles, though…thankfully. The penguin card is cute. I’m really enjoying your punch ideas…thanks for sharing!

27

This is way too cute!!! I love punchies, so you are speaking my language. I have seen a few penguins, not one like this and the fish is darling. I think I know where I can use this little guy. Thanks again!

28

Those little fishies with “x” eyes make me laugh out loud.

This is awesome, you are the queen of punchies!

29

Too cute! Punchies are so much fun. Thanks!

30

We had a gate climber too and actually bought a second gate and stacked them on top of each other so they went almost to the top of the doorway! Worked for us!

Love the fishies!

31

Thanks for a good morning laugh!! He sounds like he’s probably a lot of fun…although you might not think so right now!!!
Great card!!

32

My son is exactly the same. At 2.5 yo he is a techno nut so no DVDs or remotes or cell phones are safe. He climbs over gates, even ones with straight bars and no cross pieces except for top and bottom by using his toes like gecko feet! I have a special crib tent to keep him in his crib and he broke the zipper to escape. He even figured out how to drag a chair over to the fridge where we keep the Tot Lock key up high (its magnetic) and use it to open cupboards including those with the garbage, green bin and cleaners. He has figured out the oven, fridge and freezer locks. With the same chair, he climbs up on the stove and I’ve found him carrying a 9″ butcher’s knife that was in the sink waiting to go in the DW! My instinct was to panic and yell but I didn’t want him to throw it or drop it on his foot so I had to swallow my fear and calmly take it away!

Try some different door knob locks. I have one that my 8 year old has trouble with. It has grey rubber grips, isn’t perfectly round, has a grey rubber ‘door’ in case the door has one of those little bathroom style locks. I bought it at Home Depot. Otherwise, take away all the pillows and stuffed creatures until he stops!

I love your little penguin, super adorable! Please keep doing these punchie tutorials, I love them all!

33

Oh, for got one other thing. When my other son was little, we put a hook and eye latch way up high on the outside of the door. Doesn’t make too much of a mark In the wood, cheap and easy for you to install and use. HTH!

34

Totally, totally cute!

35

How clever to of your son to put his animals where he will land. He is a lot smarter than you think. The Penguin is toooooo darned cute. I love the fishes, I am going to make this up today and save it for my 3 1/2 yr old Grandson. He for sure will get a kick out of it. You guys are just too much with everything that you come up with. Just where do you get your idea’s from? Have a wonderful day!

36

I love all your punch tutorials. I’m always in awe of your genius with punches. This is adorable

37

Awwww that penguin is adorable!!! I love your tutorials! I have a 3 y.o. so totally relate to your story!

39

This is just to adorable. It amazes me how people can look at a punch and make some out of it. Thanks so much for sharing your creative and inspiring talent with us in blogland.

You are soooooooooooooooo awesome!!Love the penguin!!you ALWAYS continue to get me excited about SU!!!!

41

Your penguin is so adorable….love the little fishes too!

42

Love the penguin! Super cute! I can totally relate to your “battle” with your son. My son keeps turning on the light as soon as we leave the room and takes off his pullup during the night. Needless to say, it’s not pleasant when a 2 year-old who is not potty-trained sleeps without a pullup. Argh!

43

This little guy is so cute!!! It is always so fun to see how you use the small sections of the punches to create shapes that were not there a moment ago! thank you so much for doing these as videos, I learn something each time – your use of shading is delightful. I would not have thought to use white craft ink to shade on black!

Cute, cute, cute design!!
