Petal Pizzaz Thank You Card

IMG_3687

I popped into the blog today to read all your comments and couldn’t believe that the last time we posted was Wednesday!  The last few days have been such a blur.  In the last two weeks I’ve had a virtually non-stop headache which culminated in shooting pains going through my head for the last two days. Now regular headaches is something I’m used to because I’ve had them ever since I was a teenager. I typically get 1-2 mild to moderate headaches a week, but every so often (once or twice a year) I’ll get a non-stop headache for days on end. I went through the whole battery of tests as a teen from MRI’s to CAT scans to allergy tests and they weren’t able to determine a definitive cause. They don’t manifest the classic symptoms of migraines, but boy do they knock me out when they happen. So that’s what’s been going on the last two days.  Thankfully the ”spell” seems to be over because today I’m headache-free *yay*.  Do any of you experience the same thing, and if yes, do you have any tips on what helps (other than constantly taking Advil/Tylenol)?

Today’s card is a combo “scrappy”/”stampy” card – I don’t know if that’s what it’s really called *lol* – it has some elements of the “scrappy” style of card, but they’re created using stamps. Here’s how I made my card:

  1. Take a 5 1/4″ x 10 1/2″ piece of Textured Basic Black CS and fold it in half using your bone folder, to create a 5 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ card base.
  2. Mat a 5″ x 5″ piece of Rose Red CS onto the card base, and then mat a 4 3/4″x 4 3/4″ piece of Cameo Coral CS onto the Rose Red CS piece.  Finally, mat a 4 5/8″ x 4 5/8″ piece of DP from the Raspberry Tart collection onto the Cameo Coral CS.  Set aside.
  3. Take a 3″ x 3″ piece of Whisper White CS and stamp onto it the greeting from Full of Life in Basic Black Classic ink. Pierce around the edges of the Whisper White CS piece using a paper piercer, paper piercing template and foam mat.
  4. Mount the 3″ x 3″ Whisper White CS piece onto a 3 1/4″ x 3 1/4″ Basic Black CS piece. Center and mat it to the Cameo Coral DP.
  5. You will now need the Petal Pizzaz stamp set, Rose Red, Cameo Coral and Kiwi Kiss Classic ink.  Stamp the largest and smallest flower in Rose Red Classic ink.  Stamp the two medium-sized flowers in Cameo Coral Classic ink.  Stamp three leaves in Kiwi Kiss Classic ink.  Cut them all out with paper snips.
  6. Mat a medium Cameo Coral flower onto the large Rose Red flower and a small Rose Red flower onto a medium Cameo Coral flower with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  7. Pierce a hole in the center of each flower and insert a small Kiwi Kiss Corduroy brad into the smaller flower and a large Kiwi Kiss Corduroy brad into the larger flower.  Set the flowers aside for a moment.
  8. Take some Kiwi Kiss CS scraps, your Big Shot and the Swirls Scribbles Sizzlet die and die cut three of the swirls.
  9. Stick the Swirls around the stamped greeting using 2 way glue.  Mount the flowers with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  You’re done!

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!

Beautiful card…I may just have to break down and get this stamp set! As for headaches, I know the feeling, went through the same gamut as you have, and finally found that the only thing that helps is chiropractic treatments and the occasional massage.

2

Hey Andrea! LOVE the card, as always!!!

About your headaches, I don’t know what to tell you…I used to get something similar when I was younger and was prescribed migraine stuff. It seemed to help, a bit…but, man there is nothing worse than a headache, you can think, eat or sleep! You’re cranky and the room constanly seems to be spinning!!! Just try to take it easy (I know it’s hard with the kids!) and if you can’t blog, it’s O.K.!!!

3

Beautiful card. I have had my eye on this set for awhile but wanted to be sure it didn’t retire. Makes a striking card with the swirls and buttons.

4

Andrea, love the card and the whole site. I have similar problems with headaches. Sometimes its a migraine, other times just a wacky headache. I take imitrex when it happens. Its a migraine med, but works really well on all types of headaches (for me anyway). You might check into it.

5

I don’t have chronic headaches, but know several people that do. Typically they seem to be connected to food allergies and/or emotional issues, either present or past. Most people that I know who have had chronic headaches get well if they address their food allergies and emotional challenges. For pain relief, they have raved about alternative medicine, specifically acupuncture.

6

I’m so sorry about your headaches. I started having what I think are hormone related headaches when I had my kids. I just get them a few times a month. This card is stunning. Thanks for sharing.

7

I have always had migraines since I was 10-ish and recently they became much worse. I was going to my chriopractor and her advice was to keep a food diary and see if my body was reacting to certain foods. (I was also to keep a record of when I had the headaches, migraines and any other symptons). It turned out my body was reacting to wheat and pototao. Since removing them from my diet the headaches/migraines have almost gone.

8

oooh, that headache sounds nasty … I’ve *never* had a migraine and rarely ever get headaches unless I’m tired. I hope you find something that can help you alleviate them.

Gorgeous card! I love the clean lines and the dimension! The colours are beautiful. I might just have to get Petal Pizzaz the next time I order …

9

Love the card – what a great way to say goodbye to some DSP I love!

As for your headaches, have you ever tried putting a little peppermint essential oil on your temples? I don’t get very many headaches, but this always seems to help a lot! :) Maybe it will help your more mild headaches at least! Worth a try, right? :)

10

ahhh, so sorry to hear about your headache.

I had to go in to the hospital with a bad one a few months back. They gave me a super high dose of advil (600mg) and an anti nauseant. It took the edge off.

I’ve also found that tylenol, with a cola (caffeine) at the onset of an episode works well. (advice from emerg nurse who’s son suffers from childhood migraines)

Tylenol and motrin at the same time (another hospital cocktail) because they can both be taken at the same time.

I’m a fan of the occasional chiropractic adjustment and have pondered acupuncture. Acupressure on the feet/reflexology is wonderful as well!

I’m glad you’re feeling better, that is great news!

Take care!

11

I am so sorry about your headaches. They really make you feel miserable. I get headaches that are sinus/allergy related. Hot compresses or heating my “cherry pit pack” in the microwave for a couple of minutes really help that kind of a headache. I LOVE the card. I don’t have Petal Pizzaz stamp set, but I guess that it is going on my “must have” list! Thank you for sharing and I’m glad you had a “headache free” day!

12

Hi Andrea
i love your blog, so inspiring. About your headaches i am the same i have had all the tests and nothing shows up, what helps me, is those gel eye masks you can get from the beauty store. i pop it into cold water and then onto my eyes when i lay down. As most of the pain is behind my eyes it really really helps! an ice pack at the base of the neck at the same time also helps. Feel better soon!

13

Andrea!

I love, love, love this card! I ordered this set recently and I’m so happy I did. Beautiful project.

14

Andrea I love this card and that saying is wonderful. I also love the colours/papers you’ve used.

I feel for you with your headaches/migraines as I too suffer from the same thing. My family has learnt over time that sometimes all I can do is sleep them off when they are bad. Those that dont have migraines really have no idea the pain and all you go thru with them and then the ‘hangover’ the next day or two. Take care of you honey as you cant look after the others if youre not well.

15

Love your card. I just ordered this paper so I might just have to go use some now :) Hope you feel better.

16

I love this card and stamp set. Advice about the headaches, When I get a migrain (about3xayear) a nice long shower usually helps.and the hubby taking the kids out for a few hours doesnt hurt. LOL

What a great card!!! I also suffer from chronic headaches, allergy sinus headaches..sudafed and tylenol. Migraines when i get my monthly visitor..they are hormonal migraines. Then the self induced one from gritting my teeth at night or unconsciously all day long, they are tmj headaches and advil works for them and if they are really bad some strong medicine. But you may want to check and see if your temples are sore and your teeth from some unconscious grinding or gritting from tension.
Hope it help-s

18

Beautiful card Andrea! I’m so going to miss Raspberry Tart DSP!! I just loved it!!

19

Love the card! Thanks for sharing.

I get bad headaches that last a couple of days, too. Try placing an ice pack on your forehead. Sometimes that helps me. Also, drinking caffeine helps!

20

Oooooo, this is gorgeous! I sure am going to miss that DSP! I love the composition of this card. Very soft.

As to the headaches, the only thing that really helps me besides ibu is a warming massage oil from BeautiControl. I rub it into my neck and temples and it calms the headache down some. Hope you know someone who sells that. Good luck on that one.

Julie

21

Lovely card Andrea.
Sorry you have to suffer headaches..I don;t get many but remember one really really bad one once…cloest thing to a migraine I ever had I think and I am sure it was food related.

However recently I also had weird headaches..and though they might be related to my eyes and needing new glasses. The eye doctor said they are not from that and suggested it was my posture…and spending too much time in the same positon like stamping and computer time. So perhaps the chiro thing might work for you or a Part B Physio…who helped me on other issues before with my back. I think the suggestion of keeping a food diary would also be good, and noting stressful things that happen in there too.
Good luck!

22

Hi Andrea….I’m sorry you don’t feel well. Headaches are no fun for sure. I usually just take some Advil and just sleep it off. Sorry, no special tricks there from me.

Your card is lovely too!!

23

Wow, very pretty and eye catching card.

24

What a beautiful card!

25

Soory , I have no headache tips, but I sure do love this card !!

26

What a great card! Sorry, no tips to share with you.

27

Love it Andrea! The colors are gorgeous. About the headache~ I get migraines and also tension headaches. Best thing for them is Excedrin Migraine (3) and a chiropractor. If you have someone massage your shoulders and neck when you get the headache, it works wonders. They usually get tired of it before you get the amount of relief you need, though. If you are sensitive to caffeine, be careful with the Excedrin. Hope you’re feeling better.

28

I’ll be honest, when I look at this stamp set in the catalog it does nothing for me, but this card is very pretty. You do such nice work!

29

Beautiful colour combination & use of the Petal Pizzaz stamp set.
Hope you’re feeling better soon. Take care.

30

This card is absolutely beautiful. I love all of the details–the corduroy buttons, the swirl diecuts, the paper piercing, the color combination. I’m going to have to take a look at this set again.

I hope that you are feeling better and that someone is able to give you some advice about headaches. I can’t even imagine how awful it must be.

31

(((HUGS))) Please do feel better love. For me I have to have total darkness and silence when I get those headaches which is rare to do in my house so Hubby knows to keep the kids in the front while I “hide” in my walk in Closet! I even have a little bean bag in there and just sit and “ride it out” so darling I feel your pain!

32

Very pretty card–I like the colors. So sorry about your headaches–I don’t have any that bad but when I do get one of my “sick” headaches nothing helps except sleeping it off.

33

I am so sorry you have felt yecchy. I thought there had to be a reason you weren’t posting. We missed you. This card is gorgeous. TFS.

34

Love the card. I like the extra flare the dsp background gives. Sorry about your headaches. I hope you find something that works for you!

35

I love this card Andrea…love the stamp set.

I was a migrain sufferer until I reduced the stress in my life. Now I experience a migrain occassionally when I get run down, not enough sleep which makes me of coarse feel stressed. When this happens, I go to a dark room and sleep for a few hours.

It’s not fun and I do hope you can find something that works for you real soon.

Take care of yourself!!!

36

What a stunning card–I just love it. No headache tips, thankfully I don’t have many. However–the back–oh dear me–that is another story! Anyway just a note to say how much I admire this card.

37

Hi Andrea,
I suffer from Migraines, sometimes for days on end. I had not had a lengthy one in a while though until just recently. I had a migraine for 2 weeks that ended only a few days ago. I use Relpax but my prescription had run out recently and I couldn’t get into the doctor for a refill. I don’t like to take medication and resisted for years, but it is worth it not to feel like a brain dead zombie. I just don’t function with migraines even if they are mild.
I also don’t have “classic” migraines. I had to go to a neurologist that specializes in headaches to get diagnosed properly. My regular doc said they weren’t migraines because I didn’t fit the “classic” symptoms, which I have come to learn are NOT suffered by most people with migraines.
My suggestion to you is to find a good headache doctor and get some help. You won’t regret it.
Beautiful card too! I really want this set. Someday…..

38

Hmmm…. I typed and then it was gone. What I was trying to say even though there are so many great comments to help with your headaches, I thought I’d add my 2 cents in too. It took me years and quite a few tests to finally realize on my own that my headaches were caused by flourescent lights. I try to avoid them now at all costs and can tell within a short time frame if I’ve been around them and didn’t realize it (dr’s office, meetings, etc.).

Good Luck – beautiful cards too!

39

Holy snikey! This is a BEE-YOU-TEE-FULL card! I’m so gonna COPY!!! Thanks for sharing!

I love this layout and the colors.

41

Beautiful card! I love the square cards you have been making.

I am glad you’re feeling better. We often take our health and how much we are able to do everyday for granted until we don’t feel well or can’t function “normally”. I know I am guilty of it. My friend told me that one day his dad could not urinate. This went on until he finally went to the ER. Now after every trip to the bathroom, he says “thank you”. He shared this odd story with me to remind me to be grateful for the numerous blessings I receive daily, especially for a normally functioning body.

42

Gorgeous card … again!! I also suffer from the headaches. Unfortunately, almost the only thing that works for me is Excedrin. I find that if I’m dehydrated, the headaches tend to be more severe so I try to keep a water bottle going all the time. I hate the headaches too — same thing — full w/u when I was in nursing school including the CT’s and MRI’s. No allergies on my part either (although someone wearing even the mildest floral-smelling perfume will throw me right into one of those “migraines” that put me to bed!!). I’m glad you’re feeling better and hope it stays that way!!

43

Love your blog! Have you gotten a sinus MRI? The best suggestion I can give (I get these too and they are awful) is to keep a log where you make notes of every possible trigger to see if you can tell what brings them on. This is key info for your drs. It turns out that I am a human barometer. I get them before bad storms where there are barometric shifts, and that is a sinus issue and is helped by strong sinus decongestants and Advil– not perfect, but I can be functional as opposed to lying in a dark room in massive pain, periodically throwing up (sorry for the details, but light sensitivity and feeling really nauseous says migraine, which it wasn’t). Food, weather, time of month, whether you feel congested, what you eat, how it comes on and what time of day (can you tell, where you might be able to take an as needed migraine med?), where it hurts and how, what helps if anything… all can help figure it out, to the extent possible. Although I think some of this is all a big mystery. So sorry you have headaches, they are no fun at all. I wake up with mine in the middle of the night, so no real chance to take anything, and I don’t want to take something all the time, so I try to monitor the weather and hit the sinus meds (oral and spray) if the barometric pressure is going to move, and also pretreat for big shifts in temp, which helps but is not perfect. Must comment more on your blog! I am a very regular reader but lurker. Thanks for all the great ideas and hope you are feeling good now! :-)

44

So sorry to hear about the headaches. Great work!

45

We don’t often see Cameo Coral and Rose Red together. Very nice combination! Love it.

46

Andrea, this card is spectacular–fresh, clean, graphic, and totally FUN!

47

Andrea,
I’m happy to hear that you are feeling better. I very rarely get headaches; this is why I sympathize with people who get them frequently. They are not fun at all. I hope you find a relief for your future onsets.
This card is so pretty. I love the multiple layers of cardstock and the colors. I’m sure going to miss Kiwi Kiss (sigh). I had a good laugh because I’ve been working with Petal Pizzazz since last Thursday. I guess great minds think alike, hahah!

48

Not that headaches are great especially the ones that you get but I’m glad to hear you are okay, was wondering for a few days if everything was okay. I can’t help you on the headache end, I almost never get them & I’m not a big medicine person either. I guess I should be very happy sounds like I have it easy. Thanks for taking the time to make this card with super colors so quick after your recovery. The colors are just fantastic.

49

Great color combination, soft colors.

50

Big, bold, and beautiful card today! The sizzlet swirl is just the best!

51

the card is beautiful. I hope that you are feeling better. Headaches are no fun. I get migrains a lot and have been through all the testing too. Feel better.

52

Oh, sorry to hear about your headache!! Headaches are definitely NOT fun!! The card is GORGEOUS, though!! Absolutely GORGEOUS!! Feel better soon ~ Judy

The card is beautiful!! I haven’t been in my stamping room for a little while but now that I’m finished with school, I think I’ll spend the next month in there!!! Thanks for the inspiration as always.

I gets occasional migraines too. I take Excedrin Migraine (works like a charm!). I also lie down for awhile after taking them and put a cover over my eyes to block out the light. After about an hour or so, I feel more functional. Good luck with your headaches. It seems that everyone has their own ‘therapy’ — good luck finding yours.

Take care,

54

I love it Love it Love it.

55

This is a bright card. When I have a migraine I have to have everything dark. I wouldn’t have been able to look at this card let alone make it. I’ve had migraines since I was three and use to take migraine meds, but now I can deal with them with excedrin migraine. And if I’m having them more then usual then I take a trip to a trusted Chiropractor. Good luck. Great card.

56

Beautiful card, as always I love your idea’s.
Thanks for sharing.

Danita

57

That’s a gorgeous card!

I agree with the commenter re: trying to keep a daily diary of things that tend to trigger your bad headaches, which would include weather, air travel, food (for many people, chocolate or cheese can be a problem), etc.

Mine are migraines, and I take a prescription med called Maxalt. Best of all, it dissolves on the tongue and therefore acts more quickly than most mirgaine medications. I’m fortunate that my medical insurance covers it, because it’s list at about $300 for 12 pills!

Good luck!

58

This is a gorgeous card! I love flowers and pink flowers even more LOL I’m a swirlie girl too so love that as well :)

As far as headaches go:

I get migraines and they are not fun! It is VERY difficult to find the cause of the headaches. Honestly, I think mine are stress related. My job is very stressful and I had more migraines when I was in college/grad school. The last year has been tough with work and I recently changed jobs so I have had more headaches. I completely understance how you feel :) All the triptans (like Imitrex, etc) don’t work for me. I use a prescription called Midrin (I use generi–CHEAP!). For the non-migraine headaches I use Ibuprofen 600-800mg every 6 hours (if needed). It is helpful to keep a journal to help narrow down the cause, but I haven’t had any luck with that myself. I can only narrow it down to a few things and they are things that are hard to control :) you should give it a try b/c it may help you. Everybody is different!! Good luck!

59

Andrea,
Love the card (but I seem to love everything that you do)!

I do medical transcription for some neurologists (they deal with migraine headaches among other things), and one of the things they recommend to help for headache prophylaxis (to prevent them) is to take riboflavin (usually about 400 mg a day). Now I don’t know if that’s something you would want to start taking without a doctor’s okay, but I’ve noticed that they recommend it often. They also suggest that anyone suffering from headaches eliminate ALL caffeine from their diet.

60

I love your cards -they are all beautiful. Great ideas and instruction. As for headaches, I have had great success taking fish oil. A teaspoon every night before bed. I get it a the Nutrition store with a little lemon or lime and keep it in the fridge so it tastes better. A spoonful of fish oil is much better than medication.
Good luck!
