Holiday Blitz Day 11: A Cardinal Christmas by Sophia…& another winner

Posted: Friday, November 28th, 2008 | Comments (93)
This is one of my favorite Christmas sets of this year.  I just love the elegance and beauty of this bird.  For today, I have two cards to share with you which are both simple and elegant.

Supplies:  All products Stampin’Up ( unless otherwise stated )

  A Cardinal Christmas
Paper:  Chocolate Chip, Whisper White, Riding Hood Red, Watercolor Paper
Ink:  Black Staz-On, Riding Hood Red, Bravo Burgandy, Kiwi Kiss, Old Olive, Mustard, Close to Cocoa, Turquoise, Caramel
Accessories:

Top Notes Die, Light Table with Dots Template, Watercolor brush ( not aquapainter but real brushes), Crystal Effects, Satin Ribbon ( Kiwi/ Vanilla )

Instructions:
Cut out the Watercolor and Riding Hood Red CS with your Top Notes die.  Cut at the stitching line on the Watercolor paper so that you can mat it onto the Red.  Next stamp your bird on the watercolor paper.  Color image with reinkers and the watercolor brush.  I chose to use regular brushes because I find that the Aqua Painter lets out more water then I want sometimes.  To alleviate this problem, try stuffing a small piece of paper coffee filter into the filter area of the brush.   Color the turqoise around the bird before going in and painting the bird.  This will prevent the red from pulling into the blue.  Once the blue is dry then carefully go and paint the bird, making sure that each color is dry before switching colors ( this is only for those areas which touch so that you don’t leach one color into another).  Once the cardinal is colored, stamp your greeting and then sponge the edges with caramel.  Next I took my Whisper White paper and dry embossed it along the edges with the irregular circles.  Sponge this with caramel along the edges then assemble your card.  The last step will be to add crystal effects to the berries and to the eye of the cardinal.

Supplies:  All products Stampin’Up ( unless otherwise stated )

A Cardinal Christmas, Old SU French Script
Paper:  Riding Hood Red, Shimmer White CS, Watercolor Paper
Ink:  Black Staz-On, Old Olive, Garden Green, Caramel, Encore Gold,  re-inkers:  Riding Hood Red, Bravo Burgandy, Old Olive, Kiwi Kiss, Mustard, Close to Cocoa, Turquoise
Accessories: Coluzzle circles, Crystal Effects, Dazzling Diamonds, Light Box, Dots, Brass template, watercolor brush, Ruby Red and Old Olive marker.

Instructions:

On your Shimmer White sheet, stamp the French Script in Caramel. Next sponge Old Olive all around then follow with Garden Green ( keep the garden green area smaller than the Old Olive area).  Next with your markers, color the berry stamp and stamp along the corners.  Stamp your greeting.  The next step is to take your CS to the light table and flip your shimmer white CS over so that the greeting is faceddown on the template.  Use the stitching on the Dots template to create stitching all around the card.  Next, take your Watercolor paper and stamp the cardinal on it. Cut circles out of your Red paper and the stamped watercolor paper.  Using your coluzzle cutting system, cut the third circle from the center out of the watercolor paper and the fourth circle from the center out of the red CS.  Paint your cardinal following the same instructions as for the above card, then mat onto the red CS circle.  Last, you drag your gold ink pad along the card edges and the circle edges, and then use your crystal effects to dot and glitter your berries.Hope you enjoy tonight’s projects, and without further ado, here is the info you have all been waiting for:

Holiday Blitz Day 10:Winter Post Thank You Cards….and another winner

Posted: Thursday, November 27th, 2008 | Comments (143)

We’ve been receiving some great feedback on our Holiday Blitz event – I’m so glad that you are all enjoying it so much.  The projects I’m sharing with you today are a couple of simple winter-themed thank you cards I created using Stampin’ Up!”s Winter Post set from the Holiday Mini Catalogue.  There’s no tutorial to go with the project today because it’s so straightforward to make!

For the first card I stamped the snowflake from Winter Post randomly all over my Riding Hood Red card front.  After I inked up my stamp in Riding Hood Red I actually stamped the snowflake three times before re-inking the stamp – by doing this you get light, medium and darker tone-on-tone snowflakes which gives your card the illusion of dimension. I sponged around the edges of the card front with both Riding Hood Red ink AND Chocolate Chip ink. The rest of the card is pretty straightforward. The greeting comes from the stamp set Thank You Kindly.

With regards to this second card, I’m not quite sure what the name is for this type of fold.  The Vanilla CS  with reindeers which is matted onto brushed gold CS is actually the inside of the card.  The red flap lifts upwards.  I scalloped the edge of the red flap with the scallop edge punch and then punched a hole in the center of each scallop using my 1/16″ handheld punch.  The greeting also comes from the Thank You Kindly stamp set.  As a finishing touch I tied the Candy Cane ribbon aroud the top flap.By the way, how do you like the look of the pictures with the faded edges?

My web designer Amy Celona taught me how to do that today.  If you’ve always wanted to start a blog but you don’t have the technical know-how or the time - Amy’s the one to call.  She’s the one who designed and set up my blog for me.

Thanks again to all of you that shared your answer to yesterday’s question. I don’t actually know what my favourite movie is.  The one I remember watching year after year  - and go figure I can’t remember what it is called – is the one with Scrooge – the original version.  I think because I have so many fond memories of watching it with my family during the holidays that I would probably say it is one of my favourites.  I like it also because it reminds me not to take my blessings for granted and to be generous towards others.

Okay, and now onto today’s winner.  Drumroll please……the winner of today’s blog give-away is….Tracy Greven! Congratulations Tracy! In order to draw my winners I use the website www.random.org so that the winner is randomly drawn.  Tracy, please email me at andrea@sunnystampin.com in order to claim your prize!

Tracy will receive the PDF tutorial for this Snowman Window Box.  You can use it as shown with a couple of test tubes holding goodies inside (I bought the Martha Stewart test tubes) OR, you could omit the test tube holder portion, cover the windows with acetate and fill them the box with treats.  The tutorial includes supplies, dimensions and step-by-step photos with directions. I will be giving away a copy of this PDF tutorial each day for the rest of the month, so if your name hasn’t been drawn yet, don’t give up!  Each day you leave a comment, you have a chance to win.

Today’s questionDo you open gifts on Christmas Eve or on Christmas Day?  When I was growing up we always used to open our gifts on Christmas morning because of course Santa came on Christmas Eve while we were sleeping.  As we got older and got more impatient to open our gifts *lol* we switched to Christmas Eve after coming back from Church. Now that we have young kids, we open gifts on Christmas morning again.

Just so we’re all on the same page – the winner of today’s draw will be announced tomorrow evening (EST) when I post Holiday Blitz Day 10.  You can expect our daily posts to be released in the EVENING (EST).

Holiday Blitz Day 9: 6×6 Scrapbook Card…and another winner!

Posted: Wednesday, November 26th, 2008 | Comments (170)

Welcome to Day 9 of our Holiday Blitz event!  Remember the awesome icicles my sister Sophia shared with you on Day 7?  She incorporated them into her project for today, and they look absolutely awesome!  I’m definately going to have to try my hand at making them. Today my sister Sophia is going to share with you a great idea for a quick and easy gift (not to mention inexpensive) – perfect for grandparents or relatives that live far away and are always asking for pictures. Now you can send them a card & gift in one!

Ever wonder what to give all the relatives as a gift?  It gets to expensive when you have to buy something for everyone.  So a lot of our family gets photo’s.  This 6 x 6 scrapbook card is a wonderful way to tell others how much you care, and then they can frame it or put it into their album as a keepsake.  My goal for creating this page, was to make a look of a window in a house framed by an outdoor winter scene.
Sophie

Step 1:  For the roof of my ‘house’ I used my Slit punch to create 2 shingle strips.  These were sponged and embellished with ‘Icicles’ using this: tutorial .  On my first strip of shingles, I put down a thin strip of crystal effects and pressed down my icicles.

Step 2:  Next I placed adhesive down along the back of my shingle and lay down my second strip of shingle.  I determined how high I wanted to place my shingles and then trimmed of the exess with my paper cutter.  Next I lay down another line of crystal effects and pressed in my second strip of icicles.  You could also in the case of the top icicles, make them directly on the shingle.

Supplies:  All supplies Stampin’Up unless otherwise noted

Stamps:  Scandinavian Season ( snowflake ), Many Merry Messages
Paper:  Chocolate Chip, Baja Blue, Riding Hood Red, Whisper White, Close to Cocoe
Ink:  Basic Brown, Pacific Point blue, Baja Breeze
Accessories:

Crystal effects, Dazzling Diamond, Chunky Sprinkles glitter, sponges, snowflake punch ( My SU snowflake dies are not here yet so I used a punch that I had kicking around), White Gel Pen, SU stampin dimensionals. The Baja Breeze was cut 5 3/4″ squared and stamped with the snowflake from Scandinavian Season.  The centre and little dashes around were accented with the white gel pen.  Whisper White CS was cut 6 x 3 and hand torn.  I adhered the sides and the base of each layer so that it formed a pocket for my photo to be slid into.  Photo was matted on Riding hood Red and stitches were added around with my gel pen.  The photo size can change depending on how big it is.  The shingles were made and dimensionals were used to make it overhang the photo.  Snowflakes were punched and in the centre I squeezed some Crystal effects and pressed in some Chunky glitter. I adhered the snowflakes with Chunky glitter.   Sponging was done with Pacific Point on the snow and Baja Breeze CS before it was put together.  The greeting was actually the last thing that I put on.

I absolutely love Soph’s idea and think I’ll be making a few of these myself!  Thanks again to all of you that shared your answer to yesterday’s question.  My all-time favourite Christmas song is O Holy Night. Whenever I hear that song it fills my eyes with tears and my heart with overwhelming gratitude for God’s special gift of His Son.

Okay, and now onto today’s winner.  Drumroll please……the winner of today’s blog give-away is….Carol Norby! Congratulations Carol  In order to draw my winners I use the website www.random.org so that the winner is randomly drawn.  Carol, please email me at andrea@sunnystampin.com in order to claim your prize!

Carol will receive the PDF tutorial for this Snowman Window Box.

Today’s question:  Do you have a favourite Christmas-related movie?  If yes, please share.
