Wow Wednesday Slump
Posted on: Wednesday, June 9th, 2010Ok, its not than that I think that this card is a slump……it’s that I feel in a slump. I am suffering from what one might call ”New Catalogue Slump”! It is when the multitude of stamps that one owns fails to provide the proper inspiration or satisfaction! And here is the super sad part, I have lots of sets, all beautiful, some rarely (ok some have not been inked *gasp*), and here I am pining to see new sets, smell new catalogue smells, feel that crisp beautiful book beneath my fingertips.
How can this condition be cured? Well perhaps by backing the mailman into a dark corner, and shaking my catalogue out of him. I have a theory that they are withholding it for their own viewing pleasure. Every day I check my mailbox, and every day it is empty……I ask you can it be slow….or could some more devious plot be at work?
Well ok, maybe my conspiracy theory is a little exagerated, but maybe not! You must be the judge of that! So in the meantime I did a rather simple card which concentrated on watercolouring. I find colouring very relaxing, and often colour images while I think of ideas. So I took this older retired set called Woodland Cottage and watercoloured it with my actual watercolour pan paints. I coloured the cottage and the arbour. The arbour was cut out and popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I find that with this kind of image and colouring, you don’t want to really take away from it by adding to much embellishment, so I made it into a shadow box by cutting a frame with a 5/8″ wide border. The card is 5″ x 5″, and the frame is popped up with dimensionals all around. The arbour which is popped is under the frame, not over, and a bit of glitter was added with some Crystal Effect.
Thanks so much and have a wonderful day!

Holy Moly, Sophia! This card doesn’t look like you are in a slump. It is fabulous! Wow! I wish my cards looked this good, when I am lacking mojo. I think my cattys are coming today and I know how you feel. I can’t wait!

That is an absolutely gorgeous stamp – the watercolouring is just amazing! It looks like something I could frame and put in my slowly evolving country feel home
Just beautiful!!

Beautiful card… wish my creativity could produce such work. I’m glad you’re here to help me along. You’re right about coloring… guess it takes us back to our childhood when things were simple.

Stunning colouring Sophia!

Very beautiful! I love the way you made the card look like framed artwork.
P.S. It might not be a conspiracy theory after all. I have seen many mail workers who stop at the front of neighborhoods and look through all the magazines and catalogs before they deliver them. If it happens here in the States, why couldn’t it happen up there?
Thanks for sharing.

Your watercoloring looks like a picture for framing.
June 10th, 2010 at 7:20 pm
Sophia, I have this stamp and have never used it. Now i am inspired–yours is gorgeous! Great use of your time while you wait, thanks.

Sophia I took a break from my mew catalogue to check out this post and leave you a comment. LOL!
Your colouring is beautiful and your “card” looks more like a piece of artwork ready to be hung rather than a card!
Whenever I use an artsy stamp like this for a card I’ll often add a hodgepodge hardware piece with a greeting at the middle bottom like a painting’s artist name plate or even just tie a few ribbons along one side of the frame to embellish it.
Or if you do decide to “gift” it to someone add a slip of ribbon to the top so that the receiver can hang it themselves!
Just a few suggestions to help you with your slump.
Oh and you should see all the gorgeous samples in the new catty – very insprining!
Ok I’ll stop now about the new catty that I have in my hands right now…

Wow!!! This card is beautiful!!! I know what you mean about waiting on the mail!!! I’ve been watching my EMAIL for a confirmation of my shipment. I ordered on very early Tuesday morning and finally the email came this evening. Now I have to wait for the UPS man, who doesn’t deliver on the Weekends! He is holding my catty for randsom!
June 10th, 2010 at 10:16 pm
This really is a WOW card. Your watercoloring is beautiful!
June 10th, 2010 at 10:21 pm
This is wonderful! I missed getting that stamp set “in the day” and have regretted it ever since. My UPS guy came while I was at work so I was busy unpacking and putting stuff away and now it’s time to go to bed and get ready for work tomorrow – ugh! I need a way to stay home and still be able to afford stamping – lol! Thanks for sharing this beautiful card.
June 11th, 2010 at 10:12 am
WOW! I wish I had that set! I had to LOL, because I have the same problem with MY stamps. I thought it was just me! Can’t wait to see what you and Andrea create with the new goodies! Take care!

I feel your slump! I believe my new catalog will arrive today; I believe…I believe…
The watercolors are great. It’s a great technique & more of a challange to do on something other than flowers. I hope the new catalog has some watercolor-ish images.
