Stampin’ Up! Tutorial Tuesday: A Halloween altered clear card box lollipop holder
Posted on: Tuesday, October 14th, 2008
Hi everyone! Happy belated Thanksgiving to all my Canadian readers. We celebrated Thanksgiving with my family this year (we alternate years with my husband’s family). One of the highlights of Thanksgiving was that my brother-in-law returned for a short leave from his tour in Afghanistan. Unfortunately, he’s only home until the 29th of October, and then he heads back, not to return again until April. My second son Josh (he’s 8), is having a particularly difficult time with his uncle being in a war zone - and every night prays for his safety and the safety of other military personnel overseas.
Things are slowly moving towards a semblance of "normal" since our move 2 1/2 weeks ago. I don’t think I’ve ever had as many frustrations with a move as we have had with this one. At least it seems as though our internet problem is finally fixed (see previous post), and I’m starting to have a bit more time in my stamp room, so you should start to see me posting a bit more regularly.
Since Hallowe’en is just around the corner, I thought that over the next few posts (today and upcoming), I’d share with you a variety of different Hallowe’en projects. I absolutely love how today’s project turned out. It’s a lollipop holder that was created out of a clear card box. The dimensions of the box are 4 1/2" wide x 6" high x 3/4" deep. Although it’s designed to hold cards with their envelopes, it can be used to create all sorts of other neat things. I purchased my clear card boxes from Crystal Clear Bags Canada www.clearbags.ca . They carry all sorts of different sizes, as well as all sorts of other neat packaging materials.
Here’s a side view of the treat holder:

It’s actually really easy to make, so I thought I’d share a quick tutorial with you.
You can download a simple template here.
Supplies:
- Paper: Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie CS, Ghostly Greetings DP
- Accessories: Chills & Thrills rub-ons, Kiwi Kiss striped grosgrain ribbon, crimper, bone folder, paper snips, personal paper trimmer with scoring blade.
Dimensions:
- inner lollipop holder (Pumpkin Pie): 2-11/16" x 6-7/16"
- outer bottom cover (Basic Black): 3-13/16" x 7-9/16"
- outer top cover (Basic Black): 4-13/16" x 8-9/16"
Keep in mind that these dimensions only work with a box that is 4 1/2" wide and 3/4" deep. If your box is deeper, you’ll have to alter the dimensions.
Step 1. Score, cut and fold your inner CS portion as directed by the template. Lay out your lollipops on top of the center portion of the CS and place a small pencil mark underneath the sticks of the lollipops.

Step 2: Using your 1/8" handheld circle punch, punch a hole over each of the pencil marks. Assemble the lollipop base by folding the small flaps inwards and adhering to the inside of the larger flaps using sticky strip. Crimp a piece of pumpkin pie CS and cut into long thin pieces (about 1/8" thick), crunch them up in your hands to create crinkled paper, and stuff the bottom of the lollipop holder with it. Slide the lollipop holder into the base of the clear card box and insert your lollipops. Create some black crinkled stuffing in the same manner and stuff it into the card box so that it is behind and between the lollipops (to help keep them in place).

Step 3: Score, crease and cut your upper outer box cover as per the template.

Step 4: Trim 1/2" off of the small corner flaps as shown in the picture below.

Step 5: Using your scallop edge punch, scallop all four of the middle flaps being sure to fold the corner flaps out of the way as you are scalloping the center flaps.

Step 6: Position your card box onto the top outer cover. Place some sticky strip on the inner side of the small flaps as shown in the picture below)

Step 7: Remove the red backing from the sticky strip and stick to the front of the card box. Place a piece of sticky strip along the top flap as shown.

Step 8: Remove the red backing fromt the sticky strip and stick down. Repeat for the back. Follow steps 4-8 for the outer bottom card box cover. Decorate as desired.

I love your project (of course) but wanted to reply to express how wonderful it was to see your brother, even if for only a short while. Our son is returning from his tour in Afghanistan even as I write this, and we’ll reunite with him on Saturday. What a relief and a joy that will be. I pray for your brother’s continued safety and for his speedy return.
