Get Well card featuring the Fun & Fast Notes and the Word Play stamp sets

Posted: Monday, August 16th, 2010 | Comments (14)

Whew!  I thought I’d never get today’s post up!  It’s funny you know, even though I make my cards for my blog posts 2 weeks in advance, it’s still not a guarantee that I’ll manage to get my post up.  Friday was a case in point.  I spent the entire day running around – with appointments, errands and kid’s activities, that by the time supper was over and the kitchen was clean, the only thing I could think of was bed.  The rest of the weekend pretty much followed along the same course.  Saturday, we spent the entire day at soccer tournaments, and Sunday? Well, I spent a good part of the day and well into the wee hours of the morning working on a fantastic new mini scrapbook album which I’ll be releasing later this week.  It’s just so stinkin’ cute I can’t wait to show you all!

Today’s card is a clean and simple card, which I absolutely LOVE. I don’t often make get well cards, but as soon as I saw that greeting from one of my new favourite stamp sets (Word Play), I just knew I had to make a card with it. The little bird from the Fun and Fast Notes stamp set made the perfect accompanying image.  The funny thing is that I haven’t used that stamp for at least 2 years now. It was one of those sets that I absolutely loved when I first purchased it, and then used it for all sorts of projects.  After that, it kind of lost it’s appeal and felt a bit “been there, done that”.  It’s amazing how pairing it up with a new set can make it feel fresh and fun again.

Here’s how I made the card:

  1. Dry emboss the front of a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ Crumb Cake CS card using the Big Shot and the Polka Dot embossing folder.
  2. Create a scalloped border on a 1 3/4″ x 5 1/2″ piece of Basic Black CS using the Scallop Edge border punch.
  3. Pierce a hole in the center of each scallop with a paper-piercing tool and foam mat.
  4. Mat a 2″ x 5 1/2″ piece of Poppy Parade DP onto the scalloped black CS piece.
  5. Stick the matted DP to the card front with SNAIL adhesive so that it is about 1/2″ away from the left edge of the card.
  6. Round the top and bottom right corners of a 2″ x 3 1/4″ piece of Whisper White CS with a 1/2″ corner rounder punch.
  7. Stamp the greeting and the image onto the Whisper White CS piece with Black Staz On ink.
  8. Color in the image with a blender pen and the following Classic ink colors: Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, Peach Parfait and Poppy Parade.
  9. Stick the Whisper White CS piece to the card front with with Stampin’ Dimensionals about a 1/2″ up from the bottom edge of the card.  Make sure that the right edge of the CS is aligned with the right edge of the Poppy Parade DP.
  10. Faux thread two buttons with coordinating slivers of CS and stick them to the card with mini glue dots.  You’re done!

I hope you enjoyed today’s card.

“So Glad We’re Friends” card with the Flower Fancy Stamp Set

Posted: Thursday, August 12th, 2010 | Comments (24)

The color combination for today’s card actually came off of Stampin’ Up!’s new Color Coach, and it’s definitely not a color combo I would naturally have thought to choose.  The colors used are Pink Pirouette, Wild Wasabi and Chocolate Chip.  Not that there is anything unusual about pairing green and pink, it’s just that Wild Wasabi is not usually one of my go-to-greens, but toned down with a bit of Whisper White Craft ink…..I really like it!

Here’s how I made this card:

  1. Cut a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of Pink Pirouette CS and fold it in half with a bone folder to create a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card.
  2. Cut a 3″ x 5 1/2″ piece of Wild Wasabi CS and dry emboss it with the Elegant Lines embossing folder and the Big Shot.
  3. Drag a Whisper White Craft ink pad across the Wild Wasabi CS until you get the desired coverage. Set aside to dry.
  4. Stamp your greeting in Early Espresso Classic ink in the bottom left corner of a 1 3/4″ x 3″ piece of Whisper White CS.
  5. Stick the stamped Whisper White CS piece to the bottom of the embossed Wild Wasabi CS piece.
  6. Center and stick the Wild Wasabi  / Whisper White CS piece to a 3 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Early Espresso CS.
  7. Stick the piece from step 6 onto the Pink Pirouette card front, about 1/4″ away from the right edge.
  8. Stamp the large flower outline from the Flower Fancy stamp set onto a scrap of Pink Pirouette CS in bAsic Black Classic ink.
  9. Using a sponge dauber, sponge some Pretty in Pink pastel onto the petals of the flower.
  10. Cut out the flower as close to the stamped line as possible.
  11. Stamp the flower one more time onto a scrap of Whisper White CS and color only the center of the flower with a yellow Stampin’ Pastel color and a Q-tip.  Cut out just the colored flower center and stick it to the center of the pink flower.
  12. Stick 4 small and 2 medium clear rhinestones to the center of the flower.
  13. Stick the flower onto the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals -so that it covers the seam where the Whisper White CS meets the Wild Wasabi CS, and so that it is centered in betweent the two colors.
  14. Take a 10″ piece of Early Espresso taffeta ribbon and tie it in a bow.  Stick it to the left of the flower, with mini glue dots, so that it covers the remainder of the seam between the Wild Wasabi and Whisper White CS. You’re done!

I hope you enjoyed today’s card.

Can you tell I’m in love with the Celebrations designer paper in the new Stampin’ Up! Catalogue? In the last month I think I’ve posted three different cards using that DP.  The thing I love the most about it is how the DP itself can act as a focal point for the card – it kind of speaks for itself.  It allows you to create eye-catching cards with minimal time invested in the creative process.

Today’s card is a graduation card using one of my favorite new stamp sets in the catalogue: Word Play.  The arrow in the greeting matched perfectly with the DP.  I used a fun technique with this card – that of coloring brads to coordinate with your project.  We had no Pacific Point colored brads, and the Bashful Blue ones I had just didn’t seem to go.  So I used my craft ink and clear embossing powder to color my own!

Here’s how I made the card:

  1. Cut a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of Bashful Blue CS.  Fold it in half with a bone folder to create a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card. Set the card aside for a moment.
  2. Center and stick a 3 1/4″ x 4 1/2″ piece of the arrow pattern from the Celebration DP onto a 3 1/2″ x 4 3/4″ piece of Real Red CS.
  3. Center and stick the matted DP onto the Bashful Blue CS.
  4. Cut a 3 3/8″ circle out of Whisper White CS using the Circle Scissors Plus and the glass mat.
  5. Stamp your greeting onto the circle with Basic Black Classic ink.
  6. Clean the stamp and then ink up just the arrow with Pacific Point Classic ink and stamp it onto a scrap of Whisper White CS.  Cut out the arrow with a fine tip pair of scissors and stick it over the black arrow on the original stamped greeting.
  7. Center and stick the Whisper White CS circle onto a 3 1/2″ diameter Pacific Point CS circle that was cut with the Circle Scissors plus and glass mat.
  8. Use a pencil to make 6 light pencil marks about 1/4″ in from the edge of the Whisper White CS circle (see brad placement on main picture for postioning).
  9. Lay the circle onto a foam mat and pierce holes through the pencil marks with a paper-piercing tool.
  10. Select two Old Olive brads and two Real Red brads.  You will then need to color two brads in a Pacific Point color.  To do so, hold the prongs of the brad with a pair of tweezers.  Dab them onto a Pacific Point Craft stampin’ spot until they are completely covered.  Dab them into clear embossing powder. Heat with a heat tool until the powder melts.  Let them cool.
  11. Insert the brads into the holes in the pattern shown in the picture.
  12. Position the matted CS circle in the bottom right corner of the card and stick it down.  Use SNAIL at the bottom of the circle and Stampin’ Dimensionals under the top edge of the circle so that it only pops out near the top.
  13. Trim off the overhanging portions of the CS circle.  You’re done!

I hope you enjoyed today’s card.

Today’s card is a fun, bright and cheerful card that I made using Stampin’ Up!’s new Cottage Garden stamp set and Sunny Garden DP.  Because the DP was already so patterned, I opted to only use the greeting from the Sunny Garden stamp set, rather than any of the images. There just didn’t seem to be room on the card for them.  I also used a very easy but effective background inking technique to try and mute the brightness of the Peach Parfait CS which I had texured with my Big Shot and Square Lattice embossing folder.

Here’s how I made the card:

  1. Take a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of Whisper White CS and fold it in half using your bone folder to create your card base.
  2. Cut a 4″ x 5 3/8″ piece of Peach Parfait CS and run it through your Big Shot using the Square Lattice embossing folder.  The embossing with this particular folder will cause the CS to shrink so that it should now measure approx 4″ x 5 1/4″.  If it’s not quite there, then trim it so that it measures 4″ x 5 1/4″.
  3. Take a Whisper White Craft ink pad and drag it across the embossed Peach Parfait CS.  You want the coverage to be kind of patchy.  Let dry.
  4. Sponge the edges of the inked Peach Parfait CS with Poppy Parade Classic ink and a stamping sponge.
  5. Center and stick a 1 1/2″ x 4 1/8″ strip of Poppy Parade patterned DP (from the Sunny Garden DP collection) along the top edge of a 3″ x 4 1/4″ piece of Poppy Parade CS.
  6. Center and stick a 1 1/2″ x 4 1/8″ strip of the floral patterned DP along the bottom edge of the 3″ x 4 1/4″ piece of Poppy Parade CS.
  7. Lay a 5 1/4″ piece of Poppy Parade ribbon across the seam of the DP.  Bring the ends of the ribbon around to the back of the DP and stick them down using SNAIL adhesive.
  8. Center and stick the matted DP piece to the card front.
  9. Stamp the greeting from the Cottage Garden stamp set in Basic Black Classic ink onto a scrap of Whisper White CS.  Punch it out with the wide oval punch.
  10. Sponge around the edge of the greeting using a sponge dauber and Poppy Parade Classic ink.
  11. Stick the greeting over the ribbon, on the matted DP piece, towards the right edge, with a couple of Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  12. Thread three coordinating buttons with white embroidery floss and stick them to the card front as shown in the picture above, with mini glue dots.  You’re done!

“Wish Big” card with the Word Play stamp set & Celebrations DP

Posted: Monday, August 2nd, 2010 | Comments (14)

Well, our “vacation” is over. All in all we had a fantastic time, but now that we’re home, “crunch” time is all of a sudden hitting full force.  There are just SO many things to do, and not enough time.  Isn’t that always the way it is though?

Today’s card is a fast and easy card which focuses on this fun number pattern from the Celebrations DP collection.  When I first saw it, I immediately fell in love with it and thought it would be just perfect for a birthday card.  Here’s how I made today’s card:

  1. Take a 5 1/4″ x 10 1/2″ piece of textured Real Red CS and fold it in half with a bone folder.
  2. Center and stick a 4″ x 4″ piece of DP to a 4 1/4″ x 4 1/4″ piece of Certainly Celery DP.
  3. Center and stick the matted DP to the card front.
  4. Cut a 1 1/2″ x 2 3/4″ piece of Whisper White CS and round the top and bottom corners on the left side with a 1/2″ corner punch.
  5. Stamp the greeting from the Wish Big stamp set in Basic Black Classic ink onto the Whisper White CS piece.
  6. Stick three large red rhinestones, one above the other, along the right hand side of the Whisper White CS greeting piece.
  7. Stick the Whisper White greeting piece towards the bottom right of the DP using Stampin’ Dimensionals – about 1/2″ up from the bottom edge of the Certainly Celery CS piece and about 1/8″ away from the right hand edge of the card.  You’re done!

P.S. We haven’t had time to create the post with the Class & Workshop Planner and the Give-Away yet – that will come out either tonight or tomorrow.
