With Thanksgiving just around the coner, I find my thoughts turning to the many things I am thankful for.  While I am always grateful for my good health and the material blessings we've been granted, my thoughts gravitate most to all the special people in my life: my husband, my kids, my extended family, my friends, and of course, you, my customers! Have you taken the time to count your blessings?  What a perfect season this is to show someone what they mean to you. And what better way, than to take the time to give them something that has been handstamped by you? From Christmas card classes, to gift packaging and gift classes, I'm sure you'll find something that will help you say "I care" to all the special people in your life! Be sure to visit my Calendar of Classes & Events often, as I'll be adding new classes in the upcoming weeks.

What Size Should my Pages be?
Deciding what size you would like your album pages to be is to be is a totally individual choice.  When I started scrapbooking I did 12" x 12" pages because I liked the fact that I could fit lots of pictures.  For a while, I switched to 8 1/2" x 11" pages because they were faster to put together. Now I do both. You don't need to feel trapped if you start scrapbooking in one size.  Each size has it's own purpose and you too may find yourself scrapbooking in different sizes!

12" x 12": This is the standard scrapbook page size and the preferred dimension for manufacturers.  You'll find that most of the cardstock, patterned paper and specialty papers come in this size.  It has lots of room for pictures & embellishments. For some people thought, it can be a daunting amount of space to fill.

8 1/2" x 11": I like this size page because the album itself fits so nicely on a standard bookshelf.  Also, if you like to use your computer to print titles or journalling you can print directly on the page (I love this, as I journal pretty exclusively using my computer).

6" x 6", 8" x 8" and 9" x 9":  These are the smallest common page sizes you'll find.   All three are perfect for gift or single-theme albums. If you are just getting into scrapbooking and want to start with a small project, then an album of this size is probably the way to go. The page shown above is an example of a 6" x 6" page. As you can see, at most you could fit one or 2 pictures, and minimal embellishments, so putting together albums of this size is a lot faster!

Stamping Q & A
Have a stamping- or scrapbooking-related question? Send me an email and I'll answer as many as I can in each issue of my newsletter.

Q.   What is a bone folder and what is it used for?

A.  A bone folder is about 6" long, made of genuine cattle bone which has been sanded smooth and polished. It is pointy on one end and flat on the other with smooth, bevelled sides.  The pointy end can be used for scoring, while the bevelled sides can be used to burnish a smooth fold without leaving any marks on your paper. If you want clean, crisp folds for your projects then a bone folder is a necessity!
