Stamping 101: Rub off some creativity with Stampin' Up!'s new rub-ons!
I'd never used a rub-on until I was at Stampin' Up!'s Leadership convention in Palm Springs, CA in January - it was love at first "rub"! All I can say is, if you never used a rub-on you HAVE to try them! Rub-ons will add a whole new dimension to your stamping. Best of all, they're so easy to use.
Carefully cut out the image you plan on using - be sure to include the backing. Peel the backing off your image, and position it on your project where you want the image to be. Gently rub your finger over the transfer sheet, then take a the wooden stick and rub evenly all over the entire image. Make sure the image adheres completely before you lift off the remaining transfer sheet. Stampin' Up's rub ons are available in several colors (see mug above).
Technique Tips:
When applying bold images, rub your finger over the transfer sheet before using the wooden stick to transfer the image. This will help the image adhere to your project and keep the transfer sheet in place while you fully transfer the image.
You'll know that your Rub-Ons image has transferred to your surface when the image becomes lighter on the transfer sheet. Always keep a finger on the transfer sheet to hold it in place as you carefully pull up on the transfer sheet - this will keep it from sliding, just in case you didn't quite get all the image transferred.
If the image didn't completely transfer, carefully lay the sheet back down and try again.
Tape your image in place on slippery surfaces such as glass or plastic, as well as when applying larger or more detailed images.
You can remove Rub-Ons with our adhesive remover if you make a mistake.
Always store Rub-Ons with the paper backing or yor images might come off where you don't want them to For a full supply list for the mug, click HERE. |

Get Started Scrapbooking: The can-do guide for beginners
Whether you've just gotten started, you're thinking of getting started, or you just need a few tips or inspiration - then this monthly scrapbooking column is for you!
How in the world to I organize my stacks of photos?
Before you sit down to start planning your first scrapbook layout, it's really helpful to organize your photos in a way that makes sense to you.
Find a spot you can spread out in for a few days. Find yourself a quiet corner of the house that doesn't get used on a daily basis - such as a dining room table. Make sure that the place you find has room to spread out. Once you've got your place, grab all the envelopes of photos and negatives that you have lying around in bins and boxes.
Come up with categories that make sense to you. Grab a pad of sticky notes and a pen. Then, before you start, think about how you want to scrapbook. If your goal is to scrapbook by date, then sort your photos chronologically. If you'd prefer to scrapbook by event - such as Christmas, family trips, etc - then categorize your photos by these events.
Line up some empty boxes. Label the boxes with your sticky notes then go to it and sort your photos into the appropriate boxes.
Keep negatives in chronological order in their envelopes or sleeves. My personal preference is to store my negativs in the binders and sleeves that are specifically designed for storing negatives (which you can get at most photo shops). Store them choronologically, being sure to label them with the date. It's much better to store the negatives in a safe place, separate from the photos themselves.
Store your photos. Once you have sorted your photos and organized your negatives, it's time to figure out how you are actually going to store your photos. There are a few different options available. You could store them in three-ring binders using archival photo sleeves (available at photo shops, online and some scrapbook shops). Archival photo boxes are also widely available - set up tabs per category and be sure to leave some room for future photos. My personal favorite option is a photo box that Cropper Hopper puts out. It holds at least 1000 photos in a hard plastic carrying case.
Next month we'll talk about organizing your digital photos. | |
