Greenhouse Gala “For You” Card – Another Ashley Cannon Newell Make-Over!
Posted on: Wednesday, July 7th, 2010The card I want to share with you today is a make-over based on THIS CARD which was created by Ashley Cannon Newell. You guys have heard me mention Ashely before – her blog is one of my favorites to visit - I typically stop by several times a week. I absolutely love her style and always get tons of ideas for projects.
Make-overs have always been one of my favorite things to do because it stretches my creativity and makes me look at my supplies in a whole new way. I also always get lots of neat card sketch ideas.
Here’s how I made today’s card:
-
Take a 4″ x 5 3/8″ piece of Pear Pizzaz CS and dry emboss it using your Big Shot and the Square Lattice embossing folder. The dry embossing will cause it to shrink so that you end up with a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece. Double check that measurement and trim it to that size if necessary (in case for whatever reason yours doesn’t shrink as much as mine did).
-
Cut a 1″ x 5 1/4″ strip of Greenhouse Gala DP in the Daffodil Damask pattern. Stick it to the textured Pear Pizzaz piece about 1″ in from the left edge of the CS, using SNAIL adhesive.
-
Cut a 3″ x 4 1/2″ piece of the Greenhouse Gala DP with the large yellow flowers. Center and stick it to the Pear Pizzaz CS with Snail adhesive.
-
Take a 42″ piece of linen thread and wrap it around the Pear Pizzaz CS three times. Make sure it is positioned over the 1″ DP strip. Start with about 5″ piece positioned 1 1/2″ below the top edge of the Pear Pizzaz CS. Hold it in place with your left hand as you wrap the thread down and around the CS. Continue wrapping the linen thread around the CS three times. Tie the ends of the linen thread in a knot, being sure to keep the thread taut.
-
Die cut the tag from the Table Setting Bigz XL die out of Pear Pizzaz CS.
-
Stamp the “for you” greeting along the bottom of the tag in Basic Black Classic ink. Use a Stamp-a-ma-jig if necessary.
-
Use your Pumpkin Pie and Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Write markers to color the small flower image from the Friends Never Fade stamp set and stamp it onto a scrap of Whisper White CS. Color and stamp a second flower. Cut out the first flower completely and only the petals of the second flower.
-
Layer the petals of the second flower on top of the first flower with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
-
Stick 6 small orange peel and stick rhinestones in the center of the flower.
-
Die cut a swirl out of Pear Pizzaz CS using the Swirls Scribbles die and your Big Shot. Sponge them with Old Olive Classic ink and wedge of stamping sponge.
-
Cut the main swirl apart and then stick the various pieces to the back of the flower with Snail adhesive.
-
Stick the flower to the tag, just above the greeting with mini glue dots.
-
Slide the ends of the linen thread up through the hole of the tag and tie the ends of the linen thread in a bow. Trim the ends if necesasary.
-
Stick the tag to the DP with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
-
Center and stick the embossed & decorated Pear Pizzaz textured CS to a Whisper White card (created out of folding a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of Whisper White CS in half). You’re done!
Well I hope you enjoyed today’s card. I’m on my way out to meet my second-level upline for lunch so I’ll be back later to add in the supply list at the bottom of this post.

This is so pretty! I love the color combination and your layout!! I don’t think I would have even recognized that I made a card using a similar layout. Thanks so much for the kind words, Andrea! You’re super sweet and you were much of my inspiration in my first days of card making…this is really surreal.

Love this card, so much better than the original that you worked from. I really like that you used the green and the embossing folder in the background, it adds a lot to the finished card. Love the little swirls. Great job.
