Cheers to You Card
Posted on: Wednesday, June 17th, 2009
With Father’s Day just around the corner I decided to create a Father’s Day card for my two beer-loving Brother-in-laws. I wanted something that was masculine but not “sappy” or sentimental as that is totally NOT their thing. I stuck to a basic yellow (for beer) and brown color scheme (a standard male color). I’m not sure how well you can see it from the close-up below but in order to simulate a realistic beer effect I pulled out my Liquid Applique (this is a product that Stampin’ Up! used to sell although I’m sure you can find it in most craft stores) to create the foam for the beer and I used Crystal Effects all over the beer mug to give the illusion of glass.

Here’s how I made my card:
-
Take a 5 1/4″ x 10 1/2″ piece of Texture Chocolate Chip CS (you could also use regular CS) and fold in half using your bone folder to create a 5 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ card. Set aside.
-
Mat a 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ piece of Summer Sun DP (from the Good Morning Sunshine collection) and mat it onto a 4 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ piece of Whisper White CS.
-
Take a 5 1/2″ piece of Chocolate Chip Taffeta ribbon and lay it across the Summer Sun DP and the Whisper White CS mat so that it is perpendicular to the Summer Sun DP. Bring the ends of the ribbon around to the back of the Whisper White CS and stick down using Snail adhesive.
-
Take a 2″ x 4 1/2″ piece of Chocolate Chip DP (also from the Good Morning Sunshine DP collection) and stick it to the other half of the 4 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ piece of Whisper White CS – it will overlap slightly with the Summer Sun DP. Cut a 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ strip of textured Chocolate Chip CS and lay it across the “seam” of the DP (i.e. where the two patterns of DP overlap).
-
Pierce holes all along the top, left and right edge of the Summer Sun DP using a paper piercer, paper piercing template and foam mat. Set aside.
-
Take the “Cheers to You” greeting from the Cheers to You stamp set and ink up only the “to you” in Basic Brown Classic ink and stamp it onto the Summer Sun DP – underneath the ribbon, aligned towards the right of the Summer Sun DP piece. Use a Stamp-a-ma-jig if necessary.
-
Once your greeting is stamped, take a 4″ piece of Chocolate Chip Taffeta ribbon and tie it in a half knot around the first piece of ribbon – this creates what I call a “faux knot”.
-
Stamp your beer glass image in Basic Black ink onto a scrap of Whisper White CS. Punch it out using a 1 3/4″ circle punch. Color it in using a blender pen and Summer Sun Classic ink.
-
Die cut a scalloped circle out of textured Chocolate Chip CS using your Big Shot and Stampin’ Up!’s Baskets and Blooms die. Pierce a hole in the center of each scallop using your paper piercer and foam mat. Mat the beer image onto the scalloped circle. Stick onto your card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
-
Die cut the word “cheer” with your Big Shot and the Billboard Sizzlit Decorative Strip Die. Using a pair of tweezers and 2-way glue, stick the letters onto the card front – you want the letters to follow the shape of the circle.
-
Take two buttons from the Fresh Favorites II collection. Insert a sliver of Summer Sun CS through the holes to create the look of faux thread. Stick the ends of the CS to the back of the button using a mini glue dot. Stick the buttons to the top and bottom right corner of the card front using another mini glue dot.
-
Mat the decorated Whisper White CS piece onto a 4 3/4″ x 4 3/4″ piece of textured Summer Sun CS and then center and mat this to the textured Chocolate Chip CS. You’re done!
I hope you enjoyed this card!

As usual you have made a reason for me to order a stamp set. I have had my eye on that set since it came out & my husband & his cousin are very much beer lovers… I also have a friend that loves mixed drinks & we always joke with her. Love this simple but cute card & like you said not sappy. It is very fun looking. Love the colors as well.

I like how you use only one single image (and it’s not a big one) to make the focal point, and it really pops! I am going to dig out my small image stamps to try.
