Happy Dirtday!

Posted: Wednesday, August 17th, 2011 | Comments (7)

I have to say that I am loving this cute “I Dig You” Stamp set!  It is perfect for any little (0r big) boy on your list.  I wanted to prepare something for next year when my little guy turns 6.  He has been going around insisting to everyone that he is 6, when the reality is that he is only 5.  So obviously this will be a highly anticipated birthday, and I willl be all ready when the moment is here.

I wanted to create some movement with my digger, and I wanted to covey the idea of un-covering a new year.  I think it turned out perfect!  Both fun and easy to do.  The video will be found in the library later this week.

Supplies:

  • Stamps:  I Dig You
  • Ink:  Tempting Turquoise, Basic Black, More Mustard, Island Indigo, Chocolate Chip Classic ink/ Stampin’Write marker
  • Paper:  Crumb Cake CS, Cherry Cobbler CS, Whisper White CS, Chocolate Chip CS, Just Add Cake DP
  • Other:  Stampin’ Dimensionals, Multi-purpose glue, White gel pen, Scallop Circle punch, Stampin’ Sponges, Paper Snips, 1/16″ hole punch, gold brads, Glitter Glue, Stamp-a-ma-jig

You’re #1 & The Winners Of The Nautical Expedition Class

Posted: Monday, June 13th, 2011 | Comments (16)

Happy Monday everyone!  I just got back from a three day business conference in Conneticut called the Continuity Summit 3 by Ryan Lee.   It was absolutely amazing, and I would say for me, definitely business-changing, possibly even life-changing.  My business coach John Sanpietro was there, as well as 10 fellow Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators (well, I guess I should rather say, former fellow demos).

Today I wanted to share with you all a quick and easy Father’s Day card I created, along with a more generic version of it which you can use as a congratulations card.  To switch it up for a girl, all you would have to do is to switch up the colors.

Supplies:

Stamps: Grunge Rock, Sanded Backround (Stampin’ Up!)
Ink: Early Espresso Classic Ink (Stampin’ Up!); Tea Stain Distress Ink (Ranger)
Paper: Early Espresso CS, Crumb Cake CS, Real Red CS, Pacific Point CS, Pacific Point DP (Stampin’ Up!)
Accessories: 1 3/4″ circle punch, 2 3/8″ scallop circle punch, Real Red Grosgrain ribbon, Billboard Sizzlit Decorative Strip die, Big Shot (Stampin’ Up!); Chit Chat Rub-ons (retired Stampin’ Up!); Janome Sew Mini (Janome); white sewing thread (other);

Blog Winners

The winners of the Nautical Expedition Give-Away are posted below.  If you are one of the lucky winners, please email me at andrea@sunnystampin.com to claim your prize.  Be sure to put “Nautical Expedition Blog Winner” in the subject line of the email, and then in the email itself, let me know if you want the Stamp Class by Email version, or the Class Planner version for Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators.

I love this theme. It does have a masculine feel, but I live near the coast of Maine, USA-where I actually know female ship/boat owners and operators-so it wouldn’t have to be just for men. Thank you for all your hard work and for sharing such wonderful ideas with us. You are a true teacher at heart.

Beautiful cards Andrea, but I’ve come to expect that from you. You do great work. I would love to win the class by email and hold it for my customers. So glad you’ve solved your internet problems and it’s great to see you back. I miss you when you’re not “on” all the time.
Good luck with Ginger – anyone with a dog has gone through the puppy thing and one day she’ll learn how it works.

Penny For Your Thoughts

 october workshop 021

ETA: Yes, I looked at the card in the photo and realized that I forgot to put in the H.  It was cut, I was just so frazzled that somehow I forgot it.  So no need to mention…………….I know, pretty embarassing!

Well, this weeks punch tutorial annoyed the heck out of me.  I like how the penny turned out, but could not seem to get it into a card that I liked.  I will be trying a few other combinations, but for the meantime you can look at this card.  Now unfortunately I won’t be doing a video this week, my kids are all sick, as am I and I have no voice worth listening to.  I figured rather then subjecting you to my hoarse croak, I would just do a picture tutorial, and then replace it with a video when my voice is better.  Ok, so the idea behind this tutorial is the expression: “A Penny for your thoughts”.  I love that expression, and rather then gluing on a real penny I decided to make one out of paper which could be larger than the real thing.  The penny is popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Now I would have preferred to have the whole contents shifted upwards a bit, but when I started gluing I had intended to have an A at the top, and discovered that it looked like a Dunce cap.  I removed the A but was stuck with it to low.  Oh well.  As a side not, you can also make this coin in yellow CS to imitate gold coins.

Download JPEG Penny Silhouette Here
Download and save on your computer.  To print, open file in a word document and print on to cheap printer CS.  Size should not be altered for 1 3/4″ circle, but can be altered for smaller coins.

 Tutorial:

 october workshop 023
Print out your silhouette template on to some cheap Cardstock.  Trace the image on to your Creamy Caramel CS and then cut out.  Punch out a circle with your 1 3/4″ circle punch.

 october workshop 026
Take your pieces and sponge with Creamy Caramel Classic ink.  Be generous and go reasonably far in towards the center.

october workshop 027
Now take your Sponge Dauber and sponge around the pieces with Chocolate Chip Classic ink.  Keep it closer to the edges, and add a little extra to the hair lines.

october workshop 028
With your White Gel pen, add some lines along the edges of the penny.  This will be the highlighted ridge that runs around.  Next with your Chocolate Chip marker, take the writing end and add small dots all the way around.  I simply pulled out features from a real penny to mimick the same look.

october workshop 029
Now glue the silhouette to the penny backing.  Add some highlights with your gel pen and some lowlights with your Chocolate Chip marker.  You are done!

Hugs,

Cheers to You Card

Posted: Wednesday, June 17th, 2009 | Comments (61)

CheerstoYou

With Father’s Day just around the corner I decided to create a Father’s Day card for my two beer-loving Brother-in-laws. I wanted something that was masculine but not “sappy” or sentimental as that is totally NOT their thing.  I stuck to a basic yellow (for beer) and brown color scheme (a standard male color). I’m not sure how well you can see it from the close-up below but in order to simulate a realistic beer effect I pulled out my Liquid Applique (this is a product that Stampin’ Up! used to sell although I’m sure you can find it in most craft stores) to create the foam for the beer and I used Crystal Effects all over the beer mug to give the illusion of glass.

CheerstoYoupic2

Here’s how I made my card:

  1. Take a 5 1/4″ x 10 1/2″ piece of Texture Chocolate Chip CS (you could also use regular CS) and fold in half using your bone folder to create a 5 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ card.  Set aside.
  2. Mat a 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ piece of Summer Sun DP (from the Good Morning Sunshine collection) and mat it onto a 4 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ piece of Whisper White CS.
  3. Take a 5 1/2″ piece of Chocolate Chip Taffeta ribbon and lay it across the Summer Sun DP and the Whisper White CS mat so that it is perpendicular to the Summer Sun DP.  Bring the ends of the ribbon around to the back of the Whisper White CS and stick down using Snail adhesive.
  4.  Take a 2″ x 4 1/2″ piece of Chocolate Chip DP (also from the Good Morning Sunshine DP collection) and stick it to the other half of the 4 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ piece of Whisper White CS – it will overlap slightly with the Summer Sun DP.  Cut a 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ strip of textured Chocolate Chip CS and lay it across the “seam” of the DP (i.e. where the two patterns of DP overlap).
  5. Pierce holes all along the top, left and right edge of the Summer Sun DP using a paper piercer, paper piercing template and foam mat. Set aside.
  6. Take the “Cheers to You” greeting from the Cheers to You stamp set and ink up only the “to you” in Basic Brown Classic ink and stamp it onto the Summer Sun DP – underneath the ribbon, aligned towards the right of the Summer Sun DP piece. Use a Stamp-a-ma-jig if necessary.
  7. Once your greeting is stamped, take a 4″ piece of Chocolate Chip Taffeta ribbon and tie it in a half knot around the first piece of ribbon – this creates what I call a “faux knot”.
  8. Stamp your beer glass image in Basic Black ink onto a scrap of Whisper White CS.  Punch it out using a 1 3/4″ circle punch.  Color it in using a blender pen and Summer Sun Classic ink.
  9. Die cut a scalloped circle out of textured Chocolate Chip CS using your Big Shot and Stampin’ Up!’s Baskets and Blooms die.  Pierce a hole in the center of each scallop using your paper piercer and foam mat.  Mat the beer image onto the scalloped circle. Stick onto your card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  10. Die cut the word “cheer” with your Big Shot and the Billboard Sizzlit Decorative Strip Die.  Using a pair of tweezers and 2-way glue, stick the letters onto the card front – you want the letters to follow the shape of the circle.
  11. Take two buttons from the Fresh Favorites II collection.  Insert a sliver of Summer Sun CS through the holes to create the look of faux thread.  Stick the ends of the CS to the back of the button using a mini glue dot.  Stick the buttons to the top and bottom right corner of the card front using another mini glue dot.
  12. Mat the decorated Whisper White CS piece onto a 4 3/4″ x 4 3/4″ piece of textured Summer Sun CS and then center and mat this to the textured Chocolate Chip CS.  You’re done!

I hope you enjoyed this card!

Another Father’s Day Card & a few Disney Day 3 pictures

Posted: Monday, May 25th, 2009 | Comments (33)

img_30491

Today I thought I’d share another Father’s Day card with you – this time one that I made for my Father-in-law.  Even though Father’s Day is still quite far away, I try to get a jump start on it because I have a lot of Father’s day cards to make – one for my dad, my father-in-law, my grandpa, my husband and my brother-in-laws AND I like to may different cards.

My Father-in-law is absolutely amazing – he’s quite a handyman, and everytime he comes over, he always comes with his toolbox and looks fo things that need to be fixed.  This is such a stress-reliever for both my husband and I, because my husband is so busy with his job and with our kids that it leaves little time for handi-work. And it’s a stress-reliever for me, because it saves me all that nagging that might otherwise have to do to get things fixed *lol*!  When I sat down to make my card, I wanted to make something that would show him how much we appreciate his help – which is why Stampin’ Up!’s Totally Tool set was absolutely perfect!

Once again when planning my card design I deliberately chose products that I knew would be retiring at the end of June (i.e. the cardstock, the designer paper and the ribbon) - (1) because I LOVE them, and (2) because I want to use them before they’re officially gone. If you haven’t already, make sure you order yours SOON, because come end of June – they’re gone for good!

Today’s card is a 5 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ card.  I had to make my card that size because of the large chipboard star I chose as the focal point of my card.

img_3050

The most “complicated” aspect of the card is the chipboard star.  Here’s how I made the star:

  1. Take a 5 1/4″ x 10 1/2″ piece of textured Baja Breeze CS and fold it in half using your bone folder.
  2. You will now need a 2 1/2″ x 5″ piece of Parisian Breeze DP (the striped pattern) and a 3″ x 5″ piece of Parisian Breeze DP (the Baja Breeze plaid pattern).  Flip the striped DP over and place some Snail adhesive along the top edge of the DP.  Flip the DP back over, overlap it slightly with the plaid Baja DP and stick it down.  You want to create a 5″ x 5″ square with both patterns of DP.
  3. Take a 6″ piece of Chocolate Chip polka dot ribbon from the Ribbon Originals Valet collection.  Align the top edge of the ribbon with the top edge of the striped DP.  Bring the ends of the ribbon around to the back and stick down using Snail adhesive.   Stamp your greeting in the position shown in Chocolate Chip Classic ink.  Set aside.
  4. To create the star, I took a scrap of Baja Breeze CS and stamped the stars from the Starring You stamp all over it in Baja Breeze ink.  I then applied a little Tombow Multi-purpose adhesive to my chipboard star and stuck it to the back of the CS.  Once the glue dried, I carefully cut the star out using my paper snips and then sponged the edges with Baja Breeze ink.
  5. I punched a 1 3/4″ circle out of Whisper White CS using Stampin’ Up!’s punch and sponged the edges with Baja Breeze as well.
  6. I stamped the saw from Totally Tool onto a scrap of white cs, colored it in with Chocolate Chip and Going Gray Classic inks and a blender pen, and cut it out.
  7. I stuck the saw onto the white CS circle and then stuck the letters “DAD” onto the circle with 2-way glue (the letters were cut using my Big Shot and the Billboard Sizzlit Decorative Strip die).
  8. I slipped a clip from Stampin’ Up!’s Clips Assortment Collection onto the white CS circle and then placed the circle onto the star and used a pencil to make a small dot to mark the placement of the hole I wanted to punch for my brad.  I then removed the white CS & clip, punched the hole with my Crop-a-Dile and then stuck the white CS circle (with clip) onto the star using Snail adhesive.
  9. I stuck my star to my DP, making sure to position it just below and to the right of the greeting as shown in the picture.
  10. I then took a paper piercer and poked a hole through the DP (I pierced through the hole that I had already punched on the star), and inserted my star brad.
  11. Lastly I mounted my DP to my card front.

I know it sounds like a lot of steps, but once you get going it doesn’t actually take that long.

And now a few more pictures from our third Day at Disney. I don’t actually have that many pictures to share because we spent the entire Day at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon – which is an enormous water park.

disneyday30011

Pretty much THE big highlight of Typhoon Lagoon is the giant wave pool which generates 6 foot waves.  You can see the wave pool from a distance in the snapshot below:

disneyday3002

For the safety of my camera, I put it away in a locker, fully intending to pull it out and take some pictures, but then was having so much fun in the wave pool and on the water slides that I totally forgot.  We did however return to Typhoon Lagoon later in the week and that time I did take pictures so I’ll show those when I get there.

We left typhoon lagoon at around 5 pm, headed back to our hotel, had dinner and then went to the Magic Kingdom to watch the Spectro parade and fireworks.  Below you can see a picture of the very first float in the parade.

disneyday3003

If you every go to Disney, you absolutely HAVE to watch their Spectro parade – it was absolutely SPECTACULAR.  All the floats were covered with thousands of tiny colored lights – and the floats are gorgeous.  We got there about an hour early so managed to get front row “seats”.  Once the parade was over, the fireworks started about 15 minutes laters.  Since we were right in the heart of the Magic Kingdom we figured it would be easier to stay and watch the fireworks than try to push our way out through the crowds.  The firworks were just as fantastic as the parade!  By the time we got back to our hotel room though it was after midnight.

So that’s the end of Disney Day 3. I’ll share more pictures of Disney Day 4 on Thursday. I’ll be back with another project and some Secret Comment Patrol winners tomorrow!
