Art Deco-ish cup of Coffee

Coffee punch tutorial 014 copy

Well I blame this whole card on my husband.  It really is all his fault!  Last night I was settling in to make some nice cherries or grapes, and the plan was to take some of your sugestions last week and make it a scratch and sniff.  Well, here is how the conversation went:

Husband: “so what are you doing tonight?”
Me: ” a punch pal, smelly fruit card” *insert happy smile*
Husband: “well why don’t you make a coffee card instead, do a nice cup of joe”
Me: “I don’t want to, I want fruit, I said I was doing fruit last week”
Husband:  “well do the fruit next week, I think a coffee would be so cool”
Me: *slight exasperation and whiney tone* ” but I want to try the smelly embossing powder!”
Husband:  “So make it a smelley coffee, I think it is so much more adult to get a smelley coffee then smelly grapes”
Me: “not if you are a woman” *grumble grumble*
Husband: “how often do I make a special request” *eyelashes start to bat* (I swear that man has these long lashes that any woman would kill for)
Me:  “Fine, I’ll do your darn coffee card”  *grumble, annoyed, grumble, annoyed*

Well needless to say I am not thrilled with the results.  I just don’t stamp well under pressure lol.  It kinda reminds me of an Art Deco kinda look.  Oh well.  It was too late to go back and try something else, so here it is.  As for the smelly part, well, I did not have success with the Maxwell instant cappucino, so next time I will try with instant coffee.

Tutorial:

Coffee punch tutorial 002
Start by punching out of your DP or CS One  large oval, One 1 3/8″  circle ( out of Close to Cocoa CS) , and two 1 3/4″ circles.  From one of the 1 3/4″ circles you will be cutting away a little leaf shape to create a dip.

Coffee punch tutorial 003
For the cup handle you will take your 3/4″ punch and nip out a little piece from the straight edge of the DP.

Next you will go back over and punch above your first punch to create a crescent.

I used Night of Navy on the tutorial sample and Elegant Eggplant on the card to create the shading on the DP pieces.  For the 1 3/4″ circle with the piece cut out, I made a mask from the remnents of the piece I cut it from and masked the top area to create a lip of a cup.  The Close to Cocoa 1 3/8″ circle was sponged with Chocolate Chip.

The Close to Cocoa was then adhered to the whole 1 3/4″ circle.

Coffee punch tutorial 010
The cut 1 3/4″ circle was then adhered over top.  The oval was adhered behind to create the foot of the cup.

Highlights were then added with my gel pen.  The handle of the cup is not glued on here, but rather is glued on once the image is applied to the main card front.

Well if you don’t like this tutorial as much then I do apologize, but it really is not my fault.  I was pressured and bullied into it! lol.  The main card was made by punching out different sized circles in a random pattern.  the Vanilla CS beneath was sponged with Creamy Caramel, and then Chocolate chip was sponged over the whole put together image.  The steam swirls were made with the Swirly Decorative Strip Die.  It was glittered after being applied with Dazzling Diamonds glitter.  I couldn’t think of a sentiment (being rather dejected about the whole thing) and just put a hug and a kiss :)

Oranges Punch Tutorial

Posted: Wednesday, August 12th, 2009 | Comments (47)

sneak peak photo 019 copy

Well I am back again this week, much later in posting than I had anticipated.  I got back home late last night and have been trying to get my house in order, unpack, take care of kids, do groceries, cook the meals and still find time to do the photo’s and post for this week’s punch tutorial.  Thankfully though I have managed to get it out, and I hope you like it as much as I do.  For those of you who don’t know, I have a thing for food images.  It may have something to do with the colors or textures, or just plain that I love good food.  So I am tickled pink to come up with some fruity images.  You may have to suffer along with me as I do a few different fruits in the coming weeks.  What brought this on?  Maybe its that we have finally been getting some proper summer weather, the type that brings to mind lazy days and ripe juicy fruits hanging in the trees.  Now I don’t have any oranges growing anywhere remotely close to here, but since I love to eat them, and I love to look at the meat of the fruit in the sunlight I decided to do this as my project for this week.  The outside says “You“, and the inside says “are my main squeeze“.  Other orangy sentiments might be:  ” you are the orange of my eye“, “If this was the last orange, I would share a slice with you“, “Orange you Sweet“, “Orange you Cute“.  If you can think of any more then please share them with me, I am always looking for new sentiments.

Tutorial:
sneak peak photo 006
To start off, you will need 2 circles punched out with your 1 3/4″ punch from Pumpkin Pie textured CS (cut one of the Pumkin Pie circles in half)  Next you will punch out 1 circle from your 1 3/8″ circle punch from Apricot Appeal CS (cut this in half).  Lastly you will punch out 2 Kiwi Kiss (or Old Olive) circles with your 1 1/4″ punch.  Sponge the 2 Pumkin Pie circles with :  Dusty Durango (leaving a small amount of one side bare), Ruby Red (putting it over the Durango but not as far out), Bravo Burgundy (just the edge to add the darkest shadow area) and then a touch of Apricot Appeal Craft ink to the lightest side to create the highlight).

sneak peak photo 007
Take your two green 1 1/4″ circles and create leaves by placing them back in the circle punch and cutting them as shown above.  When your two leaves are created, you can sponge with Garden Green.

sneak peak photo 012
Place a dot in the center of your half of Apricot Appeal using a regular graphite pencil.

sneak peak photo 013
Cut the half circle into three triangles making sure that each point meets at the dot that you created in the center.  This will help prevent any wonkiness in the triangles.

sneak peak photo 016
Glue the triangles to the half circle of Pumpkin Pie.  You could also do a whole slice of orange by following the above mentioned steps for a whole circle.  You are now ready to assemble the image.  You can use a white gel pen to add highlights and also to add that white center area which oranges have when you slice them.  The branch if you want to add it was made with Chocolate Chip CS and the Birds and Branches Sizzlits Decorative Strip Die.  The orange wedge in the card was popped up on a Stampin’ Dimensional.  You could add orange glitter to each of the segments.  I would probably use Dazzling Diamonds colored with Pumkin Pie or Apricot Appeal so that it has a more transparent look.

Valentines Truck

Posted: Monday, February 9th, 2009 | Comments (15)

Well today was totally my no Mojo day.  In fact the whole weekend was my no Mojo weekend.  I have a pile of discarded images and cards that just couldn’t make the cut.  I think I finally came up with something that I like.  It uses a couple of retired items which can easily be removed or exchanged with current product.  I have to keep this quick as my daughter needs help with her School Speech for this Wednesday so I hope you all have a wonderful evening.

All Supplies are Stampin’Up! unless otherwise noted

  • Stamps:  Loads of Love, Goody-Goody Gum drop
  • Ink:  Staz-On Black, re-inkers for watercoloring:  Baja Breeze, Pacific Point, Turquoise, Real Red, Riding Hood Red, Old Olive, Kiwi Kiss, Chocolate Chip, Tempting Turquoise and Riding Hood Red in pad form also for sponging
  • Paper:  Riding Hood Red DP, Chocolate Chip DP, Close to Cocoa, Chocolate Chip, Whisper White, Watercolor
  • Accessories:  Winter mini Striped ribbon ( replace with 5/8″ striped grosgrain ribbon),  Hearts set Sizzlets, Crystal effects, Dazzling Diamonds, Aqua Painter, Lumiere ( retired but can omit ), Sewing Machine ( not SU but can omit ),  Top Note Die, White Gel pen, Red Liner tape, Stampin’Dimensionals

 Directions:

  1. Start by cutting out a Top Note die on your watercolor paper as well as your Close to Cocoa CS.  Trim the edge on your watercolor paper.
  2. Stamp your Truck, mask it and add in your load of hearts.  Take the heart from your Goody-Goody Gumbdrops Hostess set ( or free hand it) and draw in some hearts falling off the back.
  3. Using your re-inkers, color in your image.  Let each layer of color dry before adding the next, this will help build intensity of color
  4. Lumiere was mixed with some Old Olive re-inker to create the last sparkly layer of grass beneath the truck.
  5. Highlights were added to the truck and heart using the White Gel pen.
  6. Chocolate Chip card is 5″ x 5″.  Riding Hood Red and Chocolate Chip DP were added to the card base and stitching with my sewing machine was added around the red.
  7. My ribbon was tacked on with a piece of adhesive in the center, and the ends were sewn down and then frayed.
  8. Large heart was cut with die machine and sentiment was stamped on.  Sponging with Riding Hood Red was added around
  9. Image was glittered using Dazzling Diamonds and crystal effects, I then Sponged around the top with Tempting Turquoise and adhered it to the Close to Cocoa layer using Red line tape.  I find that it is the only one that seems to hold the watercolor paper permanently.
  10. Greeting was popped up with Stampin Dimensionals.

A New Video: Valentine’s Treat Tote Tutorial

Posted: Thursday, January 29th, 2009 | Comments (31)

After an extended break and a steep learning curve – I’ve re-entered the world of videos.   This may sound surprising to some, but I am so NOT technical.   Whenever I try something new, I do eventually “get it”, but not until I’ve invested hours of sweat, tears and occasionally banging my head against the table (it’s either that or throwing my computer out the window *lol*!).  Learning how to take, edit and upload videos definitely caused lots of “head banging” for me *lol*….but, for the most part, I think I actually have it sorted out.

For today’s project, I designed this Valentine’s treat tote. You can see an open view of the treat tote below.  I custom designed the template for this based on the size of my treat bottles.  The bottles themselves are a square shape – they are 1 1/2″ wide and just over 4″ tall.   I purchased my bottles from a really neat online store I recently discovered, called SKS Bottle and Packaging, Inc, based out of the US.  Of course I paid a killer amount in brokerage fees because they shipped UPS (the brokerage fees cost about 1/2 the value of my order).

I put together 2 videos to show you how I made this project – the first video shows you how to make the actually tote, the second video shows you how I decorated the front.  Because I’m planning on incorporating videos as a regular feature of my blog – I’m actually starting a “Video” section of my blog.  That’s where I’ll have all the videos available to view.

You can see Part 1 of the video on the right side bar of my blog until Wednesday.  CLICK HERE TO WATCH BOTH VIDEOS.

A Simple Valentine

Posted: Monday, January 26th, 2009 | Comments (50)

When it rains – it pours. It seems as though our life has been  nothing but a series of storms, one after the other.  Just when I think things are settling down, we get hit with something else.  I won’t bore you with the details…suffice it to say though it’s been a very stressful weekend.  Of course, I’m sure you can tell just by looking at the card I’ve posted.  For the first time in quite a long time, I was actually stressed out while stamping.  My creative juices just weren’t flowing – nothing I tried worked – and I just couldn’t get the look I was going for.  I finally gave up, and this is what I ended up with. I can’t say I really like it, but unfortunately I had nothing else to share with you.

I’ve listed the supplies I used below – all supplies are Stampin’ Up!

Stamps: Fundamental Phrases, En Francais, Baroque Motifs
Ink: Pink Pirouette, Riding Hood Red, Chocolate Chip Classic Inks, VersaMark
Paper: Pink Pirouette, Close to Cocoa CS, Candy Lane DP
Accessories: Riding Hood Red Striped Grosgrain Ribbon, On Board Essentials (the heart), Tombow Multi Purpose Adhesive,Button Bouquet, Pretties Kit, Mini Glue Dots, Iridescent Ice EP, Heat Tool, Stamping Sponge

Thanks for looking!
