Birthday Flourishes
Posted on: Tuesday, August 11th, 2009
Today’s card is another clean and simple card that was once again inspired by Teri Anderson. As I was browsing through Teri’s blog on the weekend her cards sparked all sorts of ideas for me and got me in the whole “clean and simple” mode again – so you’re probably going to see more Teri-inspired cards in the near future *lol*. THIS is the card that inspired me today – I loved the combination of blue and orange and the visual impact from the black flourish. So I dug into my “stash” and set out to “make it my own”. Because I didn’t have any rhinestone flourishes to use, I added some “bling” to my flourish with black glitter – unfortunately though you can’t really see it in the picture. Here’s how I made this card:
- Stamp the French Filigree stamp set onto a 3 3/4″ x 5″ piece of Whisper White CS in Taken with Teal Classic ink. Punch the top left corner of the Whisper White CS with the 3/16″ corner rounder punch.
- Mat a 1 1/2″ x 5″ piece of Pumpkin Pie DP along the bottom of the stamped Whisper White CS piece. Center and mat onto a textured Taken with Teal card front (created out of a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of CS folded in half).
- Stamp the greeting from the Full of Life stamp set onto a piece of Tempting Turquoise CS using Basic Black ink.
- Punch out the greeting using the wide oval punch. Distress the edges with the edge of your paper snips. Pierce a hole in the oval greeting piece with a paper-piercing tool and insert a medium orange rhinestone brad.
- Die cut a flourish out of Basic Black CS with the Swirls Scribbles die and your Big Shot. The die cut is in two pieces – a larger flourish and a small swirl – I stuck the small swirl to the larger flourish with 2-way glue.
- Pat a VersaMark pad all over the swirl and then sprinkle on Heat and Stick powder. Heat with the Heat Tool. Sprinkle on black glitter from the Fine Galaxy collection. Heat set with the heat tool.
- Stick the end of the Flourish to the back of the oval greeting. Place Stampin’ Dimensionals on the back of the greeting and cut small pieces to place on the back of the flourish. Peel the backing off of the Stampin’ Dimensionals and stick the greeting with flourish to the card. You’re done!

Wow, I need to do more of these clean & simple cards. I tend to do a lot on my cards & maybe sometimes too much & they seem to take way too long… My theory on hand made cards is I can make it quicker then I can put all the kids in the car & run to the store & pick something out & I will save time & gas. I have gotten really far away from that. I spend a lot of time changing & adding to my cards… Thanks for Sharing this Clean & Simple Style with us… Maybe I can go back & start from the beginning again… LOL

It’s very interesting that you should use black glitter (bling). I noticed at convention this year that there werew quite a few cards that used the black glitter. Can this possibly be a new trend? Greast job~!

Amazing color combo. I really like the blue stamp on the white cs. The black just “pops” against the orange and blue.

love the chocie of colors, I think it is great that colors can be really mixed. Growing up in ireland certain colors were not allowed, like reds and pinks together and orange always was with brown, I’m glad that has changed
