Antiqued “Because I Care” Card
Posted on: Monday, July 5th, 2010I hope all my Canadian readers had a happy Canada Day last week, and a happy July 4th to all my American readers. I’m so sorry for the long silence this past week. Soph’s been up to her eyeballs in the move, which unfortunately didn’t go quite as smoothly as they’d hoped. I’ve been up to my eyeballs in “stuff”. The frustrating thing is that when I sit down and think about the last week, I can’t even really figure out what all that “stuff” was. It was one of those things where you have lots of little essentials to do but they don’t really add up to any one big project that you can look at and say “look what I accomplished”.
I’ve also really been struggling with my mojo these last few weeks. I think the biggest problem is the lack of inspiration. I’m thoroughly bored with the stuff I have, and my new Stampin’ Up! order hasn’t even shipped yet. So although I have plenty to choose from, none of it is really doing anything for me. Pretty bad huh?
Today’s card uses a few of the new catalog products that I do have: the Newsprint Designer Paper and the Because I Care level 1 hostess set. Here’s how I made the card:
-
Take a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Newsprint DP and sponge the edges with Tim Holtz Antique Linen Distress Ink (by Ranger) and an ink applicator tool. Ever since Stampin’ Up! retired the Creamy Caramel Classic ink, this has become my new favorite.
-
Center and stick the DP onto a 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ piece of Melon Mambo CS.
-
Take a 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ piece of Very Vanilla CS and stamp the flower from the Because I Care Stamp set in Chocolate Chip Classic ink. Stamp the greeting in the bottom right corner in Chocolate Chip Classic ink. Use a Stamp-a-ma-jig if necessary.
-
Sponge the edges of the Very Vanilla CS with the Antique Linen Distress ink. Center and stick it to a 2-5/8″ x 3 5/8″ piece of Melon Mambo. Set aside for a moment.
-
Stick a 2″ x 4″ piece of Melon Mambo DP (from the Razzleberry Lemonade DP which is now retired) about 3/4″ up from the bottom edge of the DP with SNAIL adhesive.
-
Pleat Very Vanillay satin ribbon along the bottom edge of the Melon Mambo DP using SNAIL adhesive to hold the pleats in place.
-
Position the matted image piece about 1/8″ from the top and right edge of the matted DP, slide the bottom of the matted image piece just a bit underneath the ribbon pleats, and stick it down using SNAIL adhesive.
-
Stick three Very Vanilla half back pearls (from the Pretties kit, now retired) in a row just above the pleated ribbon, to the right of the matted image piece, using a mini glue dot for each.
-
Take a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of Very Vanilla CS and fold it in half to create a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card. Sponge the edges with an ink applicator tool and Antique Linen distress ink.
-
Center and stick the large matted Melon Mambo CS to the card front. You’re done!
I hope you enjoyed today’s card. I’ll be back a bit later today to announce the give-away of the July Class and workshop planners.

Its good to know that you can create a card without colouring the image, leaving the image uncoloured makes it look elegant and classic. THANKS FOR THE GREAT CARD!

I love this card with the New DSP Background Paper. I really like how you folded the ribbon, you are going to have to show us how to do that sometime. I also love the addition of the Pearls, although they do have a pink hue to them, did you tint them somehow? Do you know if we can color the Pearls in any way? Have you tried? I have been gone for a good long while, I am on Chemo and can only comment when I feel good. It has been a really rough ride and getting rougher. I have a lot of catching up to do. I used to never, ever miss a single Post. Thanks for the receipe and for sharing the card.

I love the contrast between the black and white newsprint and the Melon Mango DP. It is a beautiful card, simple but elegant. I appreciate all your work to give us ideas of our own!
