Another Father’s Day Card & a few Disney Day 3 pictures
Posted on: Monday, May 25th, 2009
Today I thought I’d share another Father’s Day card with you – this time one that I made for my Father-in-law. Even though Father’s Day is still quite far away, I try to get a jump start on it because I have a lot of Father’s day cards to make – one for my dad, my father-in-law, my grandpa, my husband and my brother-in-laws AND I like to may different cards.
My Father-in-law is absolutely amazing – he’s quite a handyman, and everytime he comes over, he always comes with his toolbox and looks fo things that need to be fixed. This is such a stress-reliever for both my husband and I, because my husband is so busy with his job and with our kids that it leaves little time for handi-work. And it’s a stress-reliever for me, because it saves me all that nagging that might otherwise have to do to get things fixed *lol*! When I sat down to make my card, I wanted to make something that would show him how much we appreciate his help – which is why Stampin’ Up!’s Totally Tool set was absolutely perfect!
Once again when planning my card design I deliberately chose products that I knew would be retiring at the end of June (i.e. the cardstock, the designer paper and the ribbon) - (1) because I LOVE them, and (2) because I want to use them before they’re officially gone. If you haven’t already, make sure you order yours SOON, because come end of June – they’re gone for good!
Today’s card is a 5 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ card. I had to make my card that size because of the large chipboard star I chose as the focal point of my card.

The most “complicated” aspect of the card is the chipboard star. Here’s how I made the star:
- Take a 5 1/4″ x 10 1/2″ piece of textured Baja Breeze CS and fold it in half using your bone folder.
- You will now need a 2 1/2″ x 5″ piece of Parisian Breeze DP (the striped pattern) and a 3″ x 5″ piece of Parisian Breeze DP (the Baja Breeze plaid pattern). Flip the striped DP over and place some Snail adhesive along the top edge of the DP. Flip the DP back over, overlap it slightly with the plaid Baja DP and stick it down. You want to create a 5″ x 5″ square with both patterns of DP.
- Take a 6″ piece of Chocolate Chip polka dot ribbon from the Ribbon Originals Valet collection. Align the top edge of the ribbon with the top edge of the striped DP. Bring the ends of the ribbon around to the back and stick down using Snail adhesive. Stamp your greeting in the position shown in Chocolate Chip Classic ink. Set aside.
- To create the star, I took a scrap of Baja Breeze CS and stamped the stars from the Starring You stamp all over it in Baja Breeze ink. I then applied a little Tombow Multi-purpose adhesive to my chipboard star and stuck it to the back of the CS. Once the glue dried, I carefully cut the star out using my paper snips and then sponged the edges with Baja Breeze ink.
- I punched a 1 3/4″ circle out of Whisper White CS using Stampin’ Up!’s punch and sponged the edges with Baja Breeze as well.
- I stamped the saw from Totally Tool onto a scrap of white cs, colored it in with Chocolate Chip and Going Gray Classic inks and a blender pen, and cut it out.
- I stuck the saw onto the white CS circle and then stuck the letters “DAD” onto the circle with 2-way glue (the letters were cut using my Big Shot and the Billboard Sizzlit Decorative Strip die).
- I slipped a clip from Stampin’ Up!’s Clips Assortment Collection onto the white CS circle and then placed the circle onto the star and used a pencil to make a small dot to mark the placement of the hole I wanted to punch for my brad. I then removed the white CS & clip, punched the hole with my Crop-a-Dile and then stuck the white CS circle (with clip) onto the star using Snail adhesive.
- I stuck my star to my DP, making sure to position it just below and to the right of the greeting as shown in the picture.
- I then took a paper piercer and poked a hole through the DP (I pierced through the hole that I had already punched on the star), and inserted my star brad.
- Lastly I mounted my DP to my card front.
I know it sounds like a lot of steps, but once you get going it doesn’t actually take that long.
And now a few more pictures from our third Day at Disney. I don’t actually have that many pictures to share because we spent the entire Day at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon – which is an enormous water park.
Pretty much THE big highlight of Typhoon Lagoon is the giant wave pool which generates 6 foot waves. You can see the wave pool from a distance in the snapshot below:

For the safety of my camera, I put it away in a locker, fully intending to pull it out and take some pictures, but then was having so much fun in the wave pool and on the water slides that I totally forgot. We did however return to Typhoon Lagoon later in the week and that time I did take pictures so I’ll show those when I get there.
We left typhoon lagoon at around 5 pm, headed back to our hotel, had dinner and then went to the Magic Kingdom to watch the Spectro parade and fireworks. Below you can see a picture of the very first float in the parade.

If you every go to Disney, you absolutely HAVE to watch their Spectro parade – it was absolutely SPECTACULAR. All the floats were covered with thousands of tiny colored lights – and the floats are gorgeous. We got there about an hour early so managed to get front row “seats”. Once the parade was over, the fireworks started about 15 minutes laters. Since we were right in the heart of the Magic Kingdom we figured it would be easier to stay and watch the fireworks than try to push our way out through the crowds. The firworks were just as fantastic as the parade! By the time we got back to our hotel room though it was after midnight.
So that’s the end of Disney Day 3. I’ll share more pictures of Disney Day 4 on Thursday. I’ll be back with another project and some Secret Comment Patrol winners tomorrow!

Great card – I’d forgotten about the cute pun. Time to pull that one out. Of course, you always inspire with your creativity, now you can add to Disney inspiration to the great things you do. I can’t wait for my family’s first trip there this summer.

Such an elegant, but masculine card. I just love the color combo. My D.H & brother never say too much about my cards, but I know underneath that masculine boyish smile they do look for them & a small treat. My brother told me along time ago “your card’s one of the few things I don’t have to share with the boys & my D.W”. By the way, you’re never too old for Disney! I *ENJOY* what you share, whether it’s projects or pictures.

I would give this card to my Dad and he would be very proud. I show my Dad the cards that I create and he just loves them. He always supports me in everything I do, even when he does really want me doing it he still supports me and encourages me.

Glad to hear you had an enjoyable holiday…good scrapbooking pages ahead.
I cased your card for the students to make for their Dad. I volunteer at my children’s middle school for the lunch hour program. They loved it. Thank You for all your fabulous ideas.
