This week’s project is place card for the table.  I know it is coming a little late, but I decided that I will prepare them for next year, and who knows, some ambitious person may be able to make them quickly for their own Thanksgiving.  The idea behind these pocket place cards is that you tuck a little note card inside.  You have people go around as they have time, and write one thing that they are thankful about regarding that person.  They are not supposed to put their names on the comments, just the comments.  Each person can then keep the note card with all the things which people are thankful about regarding them.  The other way you could do it is to have each person reflect on what they are thankful about in general, and then have them write it on the journaling card.  At the end of the evening each person can tell everyone what they are thankful for, and the cards can be kept till next year when you compare the different responses.  Either way it can turn into a rather fun and reflective tradition.

Now the video will explain about making the Turkey but there are a couple of things that you will want to follow for the place card pocket itself.

Tutorial:

  1. Construct your turkey as described in the video and set aside.
  2. Cut out 2 Top Note die cuts from Very Vanilla CS, and 2 Top Note die cuts from Only Orange CS.
  3. Sponge the Vanilla Top Notes with Chocolate Chip and sponge the Only Orange Top Notes with Bravo Burgundy.
  4. On the Vanilla Top Note dies, trim off the little rim.
  5. On one of the Vanilla Top Note dies draw journaling lines using your Chocolate Chip marker (fine point).
  6. On the Vanilla Top Note with the journaling, trim off the sides and bottom so that it is rectangular, but keep the bump at the top.
  7. Staple on a piece of Old Olive Striped ribbon at the top of the journaling tag.
  8. Now take the Only Orange Top Note dies and glue the edges together. Make sure that the glue is on the outer edge, you do not want it to squish past the perforation. Make sure that when you glue, you do not glue past the middle of the sides.  You want to make sure that there is an ample opening for the card to slide in and out easily.
  9. Now use your Big Shot to cut the alphabet and glue on the letters to spell the names of your family members or friends.
  10. Last you will stick your turkey to the front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  You are done!

Part 2:

I’m very sorry that there isn’t a supply list below – I’ll do my best to get tto hat tomorrow. I actually did have the supplies listed and then accidentally hit something on my computer that deleted it, along with half my post. So, I had to start over again. Needless to say I’m too tired tonight to re-type the supply list.

That turkey looks about like I feel, except I don’t think I’ll be beheaded. He is very cute. Another great idea. Thank you.

3

Sophia- your little ones sound like baby birds. So sweet to hear during your turkey tutorial! Love your ideas- and the way you shade everything- it gives them such dimension. Thanks!

4

So cute! Love the colourful feathers on the turkey!

5

Hi Sophia,
I love your tutorials, and you have a darling personality. I’m sure your kids are just adorable, and if you need to stop and come back then so be it. You are a busy mom.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

:)

6

Cute turkey! Great way to use those little pieces of scraps.

7

It’s called a wattle, you were pretty close! In order to not need that last little piece to balance out the tail, why not layer them starting at each side working towards a single middle piece on top. The body will partially cover it and it will look more even overall. He sure it cute, I love the pen lines to more him look more country

8

Is this just not the cutest! Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

9

this is a great idea….put on a santa…and perfect for christmas…

10

Absolutely adorable. My kids will love helping me make some of these Tom Turkeys.

11

I’m thinking that someone would have to be really ambitious to make these this late in the game, but I’m sure that somone out there will! TFS

12

love the card and the idea of writing the thanks, a nice tradition to start, thanks for sharing,Eileen

Sophia these are just the cutest little guys ever! .. too late this year but I’m saving the videos for next year! I really like the addition of the tag and think it will be a wonderful tradition to start as well! Thanks for sharing such an adorable idea with us! Maybe you could create a punched Santa/Reindeer lineup for Christmas and the tag could be for the wish lists? Anyway, very cute!

14

Very cute project! I see someone else already said that it is a wattle. Turkeys also have a fleshy flap over their beak called a snood–in case you ever need to know!! I know your kids are distracting to you while making the video but it didn’t bother me a bit–that is life!

15

The joys of motherhood, Thanksgiving day preparations, and making a video! :<) As always, you created a great project AND video! I hope that your day improved and that you had a wonderful holiday with your family!

Sophia, please don’t ever fret over the little ones, they are only young once. I love to hear them in the background. Your Tom Turkey is just adorable. I am making him after Thanksgiving and putting him away for next year. Love your use of shading. You Rock. Your kids are lucky to have such a talented MOM. Have a wonderful day!

Sophia.

I LOVE your turkey. It’s called a wattle. I can’t wait to make them. The idea behind them is just wonderful. Thank you for the tutorial videos. Never worry about the kids in the background. They are only little once and time passes too quickly to worry about that.

19

What a sweet little turkey! :)

20

He is super cute! His eyes are adorable. Thanks for sharing! Happy Thanksgiving.

21

Love the punch. Hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful.

22

Your little ones sure bring back memories for me!
My kids are all grown with families of their own and hearing your kids make my day. Don’t ever worry about them when making your video’s!

Sophia-you are truly quite the artist! I love all of the items you make and share with us. This turkey is just the cutest guy I’ve ever seen. Even though it’s too late for me to make him for our Thanksgiving Holiday – I can still use him as my sister and I call each other “You Turkey”! LOL so it will be used on many cards for her.

You and Andrea really make my days/nights and I always look forward to the next creative items you come up with. Please know that you DO make a difference in the lives of your readers.

Looking forward to your next creation!

Sophia: loved the turkey placecards, but loved the background vocals almost as much! LOL: it sounds like my house!! I’ve definitely wondered how you and Andrea do all that you do…it’s good to know that you are just like the rest of us busy mortals. Keep on creatin’ Mama: your projects always bring a smile to my face!

Just finished making the Christams Jingle set. I did not have some of the additional things like the swirls but am pleased at the way that they turned out. Really like the box that holds all the cards. I will be keeping my eyes open for more Classes by email as I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thanks Andrea

25

The BEST punch turkey I have seen! You are so talented and artistic!

Oh Sophia – this is just adorable. I’m catching up after being away for the holiday – I wish I had seen this, but it is going to be made and stashed away for inspiration next year! Thank you :)
